Sholla Local Market in Addis Ababa is a great market to visit. It is less crowded than the famous Merkato Market. Sholla Market is a great option for visitors who don't feel comfortable with big crowds. It is also a nice marketplace to interact with locals and make photos freely. It is still the same bargaining for price when you are shopping. If you are taking pictures of individuals, it is appropriate to ask for their permissions before. Taking photoshoots of general scenes is normally accepted.

walked around quietly on Saturday morning - a hassle free market! amazing collections of chills, species, pulses, clothes, shoes, plastic buckets, brooms, traditional clothes - herbs, vegetables. People are not really pushing and easy to walk around and very little heckling

Shola market is bustling! You can find everything from food and spices, to clothing and home goods. It’s worth a visit but I recommend traveling their with a guide. Wear covered shoes and beware of pickpockets.

This is a great place to come for
Spices, baskets and other local products in an environment not as overwhelming as Merkato. I bought local baskets and black seeds. This is a great place to get coffee accessories to go with your jebena.

we got some athletic gear from the place. Real cheap. I got a suitcase too. You have to know how to bargain. Some silver ornaments.

Good advise - Visit Sholla Market to experience a true Ethiopian Day to Day Market.

The Sholla Market is a maze of alleys filled with life and products; friendly traders selling vegetables, spices, frankincense, traditional dresses along Chinese T shirts and jeans, Ethiopian woven baskets and Chinese plastic, live chickens and false banana powder. Even though we were overwhelmed by the sights and smells, we shopped, made our contribution to the economy and left with a bag filled with precious experiences, our own truly authentic Ethiopian woven basket and coffee pot (Jebena).

Busy local market with everything from plastic buckets through to locally made goods.

Fun to haggle but don't over do it, people need to make a living.

All the smells and sounds of Addis Ababa.

oh dear! Our guide did not want to take us here! be careful he warned. your mobile will be stolen. What nonsense! it could be stolen anywhere!. this is a chaotic place where you see very few tourists. local smells, alley ways of clothing, shoes, cook ware, traditional coffee decanters, incense burners, incense including frankincense! livestock, food, material - just everything! a real buzz! we would have spent more time but our guide was worried about his car! really worth a visit if you enjoy authentic living with the locals. I was looking for incense burners and incense and found both there - much to our guide's distress as he preferred a more sophisticated market!.

It is a crowded and hectic place. So many things that one may need is here. Some people may find smell a bit offensive but its certainly worth a visit. If you go in alone make sure you know how to get out, I was glad I had a guide.

we went on a tour and asked our guide tot make us to the big markets where we could get green coffee, spices, souvenirs some local products and maybe some little pieces of clothing etc. She told us she could take us to the big Makato market but that it was so busy we wouldn't enjoy it but she would take us to Sholla Market and she guaranteed we would get all we were looking for. She was right we did get everything but we did not get harassed by anyone, we got great prices and some really nice items. it was a greta time and would definitely recommend going there again.
