My 3 daughters and I just spent 10 wonderful days travelling around NW region of Ethiopia and we used Boundless Ethiopia to organise our trip.
I cannot recommend their services enough, everything was faultlessly planned to the detail; there was not a single hiccup in these 10 days, despite changing hotels 7 times and some last minute requests from our part. Hans and his team are meticulous and extremely efficient, and communication was very easy. Our guides were passionate and knowledgeable, we had a fantastic time and are already thinking of returning....

It’s very clear from your first interactions that this is a top-notch professional organization. I went on a solo 2-day tour to Lalibela, and it was faultless. While providing a suggested itinerary, they were flexible in alternatives, including flights from Addis, transfers, hotel, and sightseeing destinations. The guide they provided, Ermiyas, was exceptional. Probably one of the best guide I’ve had. He took me on the tour as agreed with the agency, plus a few special extras that were truly memorable. As for the tour itself, Lalibela is an astonishing place. The option I selected for the second afternoon was a hike way up the mountain to the Monastery. Oh yes! Do that! It’s not as hard as it sounds. Should I return to Ethiopia, there’s no question I’d use Boundless again. Thank you so much for arranging a superb tour.

We initially contacted Brilliant Ethiopia to set up a private tour for 4 of us. There was a US number that we could call and they worked with us to set up just the tour we wanted.
Before we left, we were contacted by Boundless Ethiopia which actually set up our guides and transportation on the ground.
When we got to Ethiopia, we were met by guides from Boundless Ethiopia. All spoke English well. Alex was our guide in Addis Ababa. He was very informative about the history and traditions of Ethiopia. We flew to Robe and Getahun (Gitch) met us to take us to the Bale Mountains. Gitch stayed with us for the rest of our tour (except for the two days he drove to catch up with us when we flew to Lalibela) He was our driver/guide and was terrific.
We visited Addis Ababa, the Bale Mountains, Lake Langano, Melka Kunture and Tiya, laliblea, Bahir Dar with the Blue Nile Falls and island Monasteries, Gondar, Simien Mountains, Axum and Tigray.,
The local guides we had in every city and/or attraction were also very good…. hand picked by Boundless and Getahun. Getaye Briku took care of us in Lalibela while Getahun brought the car to our location.
Brilliant Ethiopia designed a great tour for us, and Boundless Ethiopia executed it well. We had a terrific visit.

I am the sort of person who books things last minute, and never normally use a tour company as I like to free-style. But as this was my first time in Ethiopia, I decided to go with Hans and co as their expertise and advice would (and did) prove invaluable.
The organisation and knowledge was brilliant, and they took care of flights, hotels and questions I had - and I was in safe hands throughout. The guides and drivers were friendly, knowledgeable and punctual - the Simien mountains was the highlight for me. If you need a reliable and insightful tour of Ethiopia, definitely go with Boundless!

We travelled for four weeks with Boundless Ethiopia Tours. We concentrated on the south, where we visited the tribes of the Omo valley, camped in villages and witnessed ceremonies. We then spent a few days in the Bale mountains.
In the planning stage, owner Hans helped us a lot with suggestions that fit our wishes. On our arrival, he met with us in the hotel, a personal touch we really appreciated. Travel mishaps, like our luggage not arriving on the plane and a hotel closing down, were solved professionally.
On the road, we travelled with a well maintained landcruiser and a very good driver. Our driver Esayas was punctual, experienced, and knew a lot about the region (not only the people, also the animals, especially birds). With his quiet, slightly introvert character, good cheer, great service, and sense of humor we found him easy to get on with. Everything on the way was well arranged. From local guides to arranging ceremonies for us to witness, to the camping gear and the very good camping food. There was even a table cloth for the camping table!
We recommend Boundless Tours to anyone wishing to travel in Ethiopia!

We were very pleased with our tour of 23 days with Boundless Ethiopia. We visited Addis Ababa, Bahir Dar, Lalibela, Gondar, Simien National Park, Axum, Tigray Mountains, Danakil Depression, Harar, and the Bale Mountains National Park.
The guide that we had throughout the tour, along with the driver, were very good. Hans' organization of the itinerary worked very well. His communications with me, principally through e-mails, were prompt and complete. Finally, the pricing of the tour by Boundless Ethiopia was quite competitive. We enjoyed our trip immensely and we highly recommend this company. We plan to use them again when we return to Ethiopia to visit other areas.

I booked a weekend tour with Boundless Ethiopia to Wenchi Crater Lake with two nights of hotel stays. The crater lake itself is spectacular. The ride down on horses was bumpy and occasionally harrowing, but I made it down without falling off anything. We chose horses since the walk sounded long to make on foot (12 km), but I might have felt steadier on my own two feet. Wear proper hiking boots for this! The boat ride to the island in the lake was perhaps the highlight, along with the beautiful views of the lake from above. Some of the handlers for the horses were really annoying about soliciting gratuities.
The guide from Boundless Ethiopia tours was resourceful and excellent. He worked extremely hard to free our vehicle from the mud we got stuck in and frequently checked in to see whether I wanted a coffee break or something to eat. He made a very difficult road situation manageable and improvised good alternatives when it proved impossible to reach Weliso on Day 1. He also recommended a very good lunch venue in Weliso. The best food I ate that weekend was in Alex's company. He is also a very safe driver.
The lesson here is to visit Ethiopia during the dry season.
The guide from Boundless Ethiopia tours was resourceful and excellent. We have traveled the world but never has a country left its mark on us as did Ethiopia .
We thank Boundless for arranging an interesting trip allowing us to experience this amazingly beautiful country on many levels . We hiked the Simien Mountains , homestayed with a local family,took part in many cultural festivities, interacted with Southern Tribes. and climbed an active volcano in the North.....but the best time for us was sitting interacting with the beautiful Ethiopians. Our excellent guides and comfortable vehicle softened the journey . We thank you all.

I've just returned from a 16 day trip to Ethiopia. I used Boundless Ethiopia Tours as my travel company. My brother and I knew what we wanted to see in Ethiopia and before contacting Hans, we didn't want the standard itinerary. Before contacting Hans we were working with another tour company, but they weren't flexible with the schedule and also there was always a delay in email response. When we contacted Hans he worked with us on the itinerary and also responded very quickly to our emails. We were able to put together an itinerary that was suitable for us.
When we arrived in Ethiopia Hans was at the airport to greet us and he took us to a traditional Ethiopian restaurant that night as an introduction to Ethiopia. After that we traveled across Ethiopia via plane or car and there was always someone there to greet us and make sure that everything was being taken care of for us. All of the local guides were knowledgable about the history of the location and they were warm and friendly.
We had a great time in Ethiopia and I know that we could not have planned such a trip on our own.
I highly recommend Boundless Ethiopia Tours you won't regret using them.

Just back from this amazing trip — thank you Hans!!!
My husband and I went on a 34-day private and customized tour through Ethiopia, organized by Boundless Ethiopia. After researching tour companies more than one year in advance of our trip, I selected Boundless and am very glad I did! From the early planning stages and through the many back-and-forth emails, Hans was extremely responsive, knowledgeable and helpful. My husband and I are in our late 60’s and although we are experienced world travelers, we knew this was going to be an ambitious trip. But from the start, I had confidence that we would be well taken care of — and we were!
We had one driver for the north (Yordonis) and one for the bulk of our trip which included the south (Gitch). Both were very safe drivers and wonderful companions. The cars were comfortable and well equipped for road travel in Ethiopia.
Most of our trip was with Getahun (Gitch) and I can’t say enough about how great he was! He paid close attention to our well being and was always one step ahead in making sure our needs (and wants) were met. He truly is a professional guide and although we had always had a local guide at every stop, Gitch provided further information, insights and tips. He even took us to a Rift Valley wine store so we could stock up and enjoy wine in our room before dinners. When one of the hotels made a mistake in our room assignment (twin beds instead of one double and a lower category room) he was swift to sort out the problem and also reconfirm the remaining hotels to ensure we had correct room assignments. Hitch’s English is excellent and he was a wonderful travel companion. Thank you for everything you did to make our trip so wonderful, Gitch!!!
Two months before our trip, we decided to add in Axum and Tigray. Hans had originally suggested that region be part of our itinerary, but we had wanted to cut out the longer drives. Hans quickly responded with a revised itinerary that made this possible, including an additional flight to cut back driving time, without changing the date of our stay in Lalibela so we would be there for Timkat.
Another change occurred during the trip when I was experiencing some mild altitude-related health issues and needed to cancel our 3-day trek in Lalibela. I sent an email to Mariamawit in the Addis office and she responded immediately with several viable options for alternatives. I selected our preference and the change occurred seamlessly.
Hans’ suggested hotels were wonderful - highlights being, Korkor Lodge, Limalimo, Eco Omo Lodge (basic but very comfortable and well run), and Bale Mountain Lodge.
Highlights of the trip: Tigray and Axum - stunning scenery and historical sights, like being back in time 1,000 years; Lalibela is a must and glad we were there for the Timkat festivities; Simeon Mountains and the gelada monkies; Omo Valley - so different from the north, visits to tribes, local markets and experiencing the bull jumping ceremony. Everywhere we travelled people were friendly and excited to welcome tourists.

We are glad we did and very glad we selected Boundless. If you are considering touring this amazing country I would encourage you not to wait too long. Like many places, it will not be the same 5-10 years from now. It is a country rich in history, culture and scenic beauty. It is also a country like no other as western influences are hardly seen.
Without reservation, I give Hans/Boundless Ethiopia my strongest recommendation. You can trust that he will make your trip to Ethiopia the trip of a lifetime!

I am traveling along and would like to join with another party for one day Guided Day Trip: Nature and Wildlife including Debre Libanos Monastery from Addis Ababa on 15th June as I had to stay over more than 12 hours transit. is it possible?
