Overall Disappointing Experience
Sep 2020 • Family
My family and I visited here and expected so much more. There were about 5 types of animals in all, and all of the animals looked like depressed prisoners. I’m not an extremist when it comes to the way animals should be treated, but what I saw was unacceptable. Visitors even heckled some of the animals. The whole experience actually made me sad. And like I said, I’m not the guy who’s going to rescue lobsters from a restaurant fish tank. I’m going to eat them! Lol. But, this zoo was bad.

Also, you can see all of the animals in less than 5 minutes. There’s really nothing else to do. With the right zoo curator, developer, and funding, this place could be so much more. Addis Ababa is a wonderful city. It deserves a better zoo.

Not worth the visit
Dec 2019 • Friends
Very small zoo with animals in small cages and not natural environment for them. Just a few lions, ducks a baboon and a monkey. Oh worth the money

Small Zoo
Oct 2019
It's been in much worse condition before but now the animals are in much better condition however animals are confined to a very small space and specially to see the Lions its saddening they deserve better they are majestic animals they need space. Most of them were not there i was told 4 or 5 of them died during renovation.

Saddening
Oct 2019 • Friends
Even though the zoo carries endemic animals such as the Gelada Baboon and Black Maned Lion, they are kept in unbelievably small cages with poor hygiene. The animals are in such sad emotional states its depressing to watch. Birds are kept in small cages away from any habitat like looking circumstances. This should be stopped!!!

nice mini mini zoo
May 2019 • Solo
this mini is on ita way to renovation and the management they said has plans to make it bigger.

animals wise, they all look healthy and well feed

I dont see any wrong in parks like this as it will serve as place to learn, appreciate and respect animals, of course you cannot bring kids even adults to the wild safari to see animals like these.

And yes, I am happy to see a black hair lion typically in Ethiopia and my zodiac symbol hehehe looks grand and majestic

For only 20birr you get also to see turtles, 2 kinds of monkeys, a big bird like a pelican or vulture i dont know

a deer, thats a walia maybe, but i think its not

maybe they should add an aviary, a real walia, a zebra maybe and some elephants they can add to the entrance fee

get on the bus going to Shiromeda and go down in siddist kilo and thats the lion park

Its clean a must see attraction in the middle of a busy Addis Ababa

Never go there
Apr 2018
Sad to see those poor lions caged in a very small room in the middle of the city. Also some other caged animals like baboons and other types of monkeys. One can see how in poor condition they are handled.
Please do not go there

Closed because of Safety Hazard
Aug 2017 • Family
Haha, what a foolery. This place is closed! Our taxi driver told us the caretaker got eaten by the lions, so they had to shoot them after a life in captivity, how animal friendly really, so since end 2016 there is this Muslim Exposition taking place instead.

Closed for maintenance, no indication when it will reopen
Mar 2017 • Friends
No information about the closure on the internet, hence this would be the second best place to post about it. Hope they will find the lions back sooner than later to reopen the place.
