About Ethio Sunrise Tours
My name is Bogale, or Boge, for short. I was born close to the Simien mountains, but I grew up in the small town of Debark, which is located in the national park. I chose to study tourism management and graduated from Debark TVT school. Now, I give tours and share the culture of my home country.

Bogale understands the needs of the independent budget traveler and what they value. He provided great advice for arranging a completely independent 3day/2night trek from Debark, and his help was crucial in arranging for transportation to and from the park. This to me was the most important part of avoiding the high prices of a group tour. Bogale gave ample information on what to expect for staying in the community lodges (loud and spare), and this allowed me to travel light. The only stressful part was trying to find food in the calls, since I did not have an Ethiopian SIM and thus could not contact Bogale to find out which comes he could arrange for me to negotiate with up in the mountains. The greatest recommendation I can give for hiring Bogale is that he grasps a sustainable business model, one in which the price of a service should be equal to the value perceived by the consumer. In pursuing this business model, he exhibits true hospitality. He is worthy of my business the next time I visit the Simien Mountains.

My boyfriend and I would recommend Bogale's tour to every tourist who is looking for a fun, careless, budget and great tour in the simien mountains. We came to debark with the plan to book a four day tour in the simien mountains when we ran into Bogale. First he explained us many interesting facts about the region and the local way of life. Then we found out he also offered tours, mainly run by local people. In this way, he tries to avoid that big touring companies take most of the money paid by tourists, and he tries to get the money to the locals. He arranged our tour perfectly, for a very good price and with a big smile on his face. He is a very nice and warm person, who will take care of everything you would want. He offered us coffee, got us tasty bread from the bakery, took us to the local pub with his friends (much fun!), And of course: arranged a great tour. We had so much fun, saw all the highlights of the simien park, had great food and excellent company. Bogale is really someone you can count on, available at any time of the day. He even invited us at his home for a coffee ceremony. Really, if your are looking for an excellent tour to simien mountains: he is your man!

We met Boge in Debark and he quickly arranged a 4 day/3 night trek for our group of 3 in the Simien Mountains. This package included a car to the starting point and home from the ending point of the trek, a scout, a guide, and our bus tickets to Axum the following day. Boge speaks excellent English and went out of his way to make us feel comfortable, inviting us for coffee and making sure we had snacks and water for the bus ride. He was super easy to reach by phone and made the whole experience pretty seamless. He understood our needs as budget travelers and worked with us to come up with the best package. We give 4 stars because going the ‘budget’ route meant negotiating the price of every meal (food is expensive in the Simiens) and sleeping in loud and crowded lodges. Boge warned us about the sleeping arrangements, but we would recommend paying for all meals up front to avoid the stress of constant haggling. I recommend booking with Ethio Sunrise Tours. And if any problems occur during the trip, do not hesitate to call Boge— he will work everything out.
