Food tasting tours, Enjera/Injera baking,coffee ceremony,Tej tasting

Join us on this unique, personalized and authentic tour of Addis to see the rich Ethiopian cuisine! Ethiopian cuisine characteristically consists of vegetable and often very spicy meat dishes. This is usually in the form of wat, a thick stew, served atop Enjera, a large sourdough flatbread, which is about 50 centimeters (20 inches) in diameter and made out of fermented teff flour.

Our walking food tours take you to several restaurants where we highlight their best dish. Our expertise Beki will lead you and tell you the story behind the food and the traditions involved in cooking each dish.

Food tours are focused in many neighborhoods where we walk between each stop. In total, we spend around 1 hour on one stop. The tour lasts approximately four up to five hours

I booked Beki for a one day tour on a recommendation from a friend. He was punctual and provided all necessary information in advance so nothing was missed. Beki is friendly and warm, knowledgeable and a provided a great days activities. As I was on a solo trip he knew exactly the right pictures and view points. The scenery outside Addis is beautiful, even just driving through villages you get a sense of life there. Portuguese bridge was dry this time of year but still spectacular. The monastery at Debre Lebanos has the most amazing stained glass windows, I found the setting to be very serene, enhanced by the chanting in the background. Beki took me to visit local family village, and it was fantastic to visualise their traditional way of life and how they make use of land and resources. I definitely recommend Beki tours be it solo or group travellers. His upbeat personality makes for easy company.

I live in Addis Ababa myself. When my parents came to visit me, I had to work. So I called Beki to guide them through the city and he made my parents so happy! They saw all the highlights of Addis, they were friendly, in time and explained a lot about the city and its history. I really recommend Beki as your guide in Addis!

I had just arrived in Addis to visit a friend, who'd worked there for six months but hadn't had a chance to see much of the city. Beki crafted a one-day tour that worked perfectly for both of us. He included a couple of "standard" stops (e.g., the Mercato and St. George's Cathedral and Museum), a special request (a tour of the only synagogue in Addis), and — the highlight for me — a visit to the home of a 65-year-old Oromia woman who makes and sells engera all day every day to support her grandchildren (see photo). We even got to make (and eat) some engera of our own! Whether you have your own ideas of what you want to see and do or you let Beki suggest an itinerary, I can guarantee you a great day of sightseeing. And bring your questions about Addis in particular or Ethiopia in general — Beki is very knowledgeable and an excellent communicator.
