I recently did a tour of the Omo Valley with Fitsum and Omo Valley Tours. Although I have been to over 60 countries, this was my first trip to Africa by myself and I was nervous travelling alone. I started talking to Fitsum and his responsiveness, attention to detail, and local knowledge was readily apparent, to the point that I was comfortable booking a solo trip with him.

Booking with Fitsum was the best travel decision I ever made. He was waiting for me at the airport with a sign and from the first moment we met I had a new best friend! He took care of every detail and once I was with him I didn't even feel like I was travelling alone. He really understood my expectations and did everything in his power to make the trip such a memorable one. I wouldn't hesitate to book with him again, and am already talking to him about coming back when my schedule allows.

I read online about how visiting the tribes is difficult and every photo comes with a price tag. Due to Fitsum's relationship with the tribes my experience was the exact opposite. He cares about the tribes and they in kind will make you feel welcome. The experience was something I will forever cherish. He taught me how to respect the tribes while still being able to capture the photos I wanted - he also helped me find good compositions and made sure I got photos I was happy with.

Fitsum is super honest and trustworthy. I had a flight cancellation which required me to drive an extra 8 hours to Arba Minch. Fitsum took me there without hesitation even though it wasn't what we had booked and he didn't want to charge me extra for the additional travel time or transportation costs. I was literally speechless when I realized he wasn't planning on charging me for the hotel in Konso when he had already paid for my lodging in Turmi on the very same night!

His local knowledge and experience kept me safe and having fun the entire time. When my flight was cancelled his ability to make adjustments and understanding of my needs (and what was realistic) allowed everything to work out better then I could have ever imagined.

When it was time to leave he waited at the airport all the way until my plane took off to make sure all was on track. He went the extra mile literally every step of the way. He made sure that I had a once in a lifetime experience and a great time!

In short if you are considering a trip to the Omo Valley I would look no further then Fitsum and his team. He is reliable and honest, a good travel companion, and a man of his word. He is professional yet a great friend and ensures that your experience will be a positive one that you will remember for a long time.

We were looking for a guide to take us to tribes in the Omo valley and are so glad that we found Omo valley tours. We spent 7 days going to 8 different tribes and had such an engaging and unique experience learning about the diversity and culture of each tribe. Fitsum was a great communicating with us about what we wanted to see and scheduled a wonderful itinerary for us. We were even able to see the bull jumping ceremony and he was able to get us to see the ceremony of the dassanech tribe. Shigo and Kalu were amazing guide/driver. Shigo was so knowledgeable about each tribe and had good relationships with the local guides and tribes. He was super easy to talk with and was very good at checking in and making sure we did activities that we wanted to be engaged in. Kalu was an awesome driver who also knew a lot about the area and had a very easy going positive attitude. We really enjoyed being able to talk to the tribes through our guide and get to ask them questions about their culture and way of life. Overall it was a wonderful experience and were very happy we choose Omo Valley Tours.

We took a tour to the Omo Valley with Joseph, because Omo Valley with a tour operator was much too expensive and Joseph offert us a good price. So we got in contact and he wrote back right away, we didn`t have much time left, so we took him and we didn`t regrate it. He`s very nice, warm hearted and very honest. We met someone in Arba Minch Hotel who had problemes with their guide and driver, because they cheated them and stole some of their money!! Josef came to pick us up on time in the hotel in Addis Ababa and so we drove to Arba Minch, which is a very long drive. But it`s also interesting to see the area which changes often, the people out on the street with their cows, dunky`s, goats ect., the driver we had drove excellent. He picked good hotels and he kept his promise with full board. We stoped for lunch and dinner and if the hotel didn`t have breakfast, we also stoped somewhere. Of course these are all local places out there where you eat and the food is something you have to get used to,I didn`t like it.But, there is a lot to see, when you stop in local places and that is, what we like, besides that, I don`t think, that they have international Restaurants out there, it`s all local. I can really recomand Joseph, because he`s a real nice person and tries to do his best.My husband and I met a homeless boy in Arba Minch, we took care of him and gave him food, money and some cloth. Our guide came to look for us and I told him about it, he went with us and talked to the boy, to give him some advise and he bought him some shoes, because he loves kids and like I said, he`s very warm hearted. We are still in contact with him, because he became a friend to us.You can book all tours for Ethiopia with him, not only Omo Valley, he also takes you to the Mercato Market in Addis. Here his contact dates: +251955403254 (whats app) or josephalemu203@gmail.com You better contact him under whats app, he writes back quick.

I traveled with Fitsum and his lovely small team in late May 2022 in a custom trip to South Omo Valley tribes. It was an authentic and surreal experience.

I started planning my trip relatively late with a lot of uncertainties about which part of Ethiopia to visit, about the number of days to spend in there and when to come. In my research I reached out to Fitsum through his beautifully set-up website among many other guides but my choice was easily made at the end. Fitsum contacted me personally following my application through his website, and he was reactive and he answered the myriad of questions I've asked and helped me navigate my way through planning the trip. We've stayed in contact through the whole period. Our trip started from the Jinka airport where he picked us up in a decent 4x4 Toyota and we headed directly to the tribes as we had an intense program. Fitsum knew the region history and culture very well as he is originated from there which added to our experience more depth and a more immersive aspect. We managed to visit Hamer, Mursi, Dassanech and Kara tribes. We could also cross the Omo River on a boat and visit the weekly market. The interaction with the locals were a transcending experience. We've ended our trip with a tour in the local meseum to know more about the culture and the tools encountered throughout the whole trip.

Those who are visiting the tribes should keep in mind that it's not a luxury destination and the comfort that comes with it. The whole meaning of the trip is to immerse yourself in the minimalistic and simple life of the locals, and be prepared to see life in an angle you probably never saw before.

I had a 3-day OMO valley tour with Fitsum and it was certainly the highlight of my Ethiopian tour.

Due to COVID, I scrambled to put the tour together at very last minute. Fitsum was prompt and patient to answer my non-stop questions through emails. Also, I am a female solo traveler so I am highly concerned about my safety. Fitsum was sincere enough to earn my trust before I booked the tour with him.

I customized the tour based on my interests and Fitsum simply fulfilled my requests and made everything happened smoothly.

Fitsum was friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. Our driver has the same quality as well. They have been working together for years and I certainly could feel that warm camaraderie between them. It was very easy to travel with them and I did enjoy their companionship along the road.

I certainly would recommend to have Fitsum organize a seamless and fun tour for you to experience Omo.

We were recommended Omo Valley Tours and never in our wildest dreams did we image we would fall in love with the Omo Valley as we did, nor with Fitsum and his team.
Before we arrived Fitsum, had booked flights for us and was in constant replies to all communications. Our family of 5 arrived into Jinka and from the airport pick up to drop off, our 5 day tour of Omo Valley with Fitsum was incredible.
The respect and rapport Fitsum has with each of the tribes we visited, meant that our visits to each village were welcoming and embracing. The friendship that our three children (aged 10,9&7 yrs) grew with Fitsum was wonderful. His patience and gentleness with great knowledge and insight to Omo Valley, the tribes within it and Ethiopia's history, meant we all learnt while we all grew. Fitsum's team of drivers, cooks and carers were ever present, while allowing us space and time to immerse ourselves in each experience.
For a family holiday to this incredible country, I highly recommend Fitsum Ashebir of Omo Valley Tours.

My wife Jodie and I have done several photography tours where we hired local models to picture a close up encounter with the people we visit. All very successful. But this is on another level altogether. The Omo Valley Tours group, skillfully lead by Fitsum and Shigo with superior drivers David and Kalu, who was a master of dealing with children, and cook Weito whose meals were delicious, gave us access to the tribes people, especially the Suri, which made photographing a soulful adventure. A particular special request we had was organized in a stunning way. Two weeks before because of heavy rains entire roads had become inaccessible. Fitsum reorganized our itinerary at the last moment without any glitch. Masterful!Overall this was way more than we hoped for and we will come back in two years using Fitsum and Shigo again. If you have the chance, cancel all your other travel plans to go on this road less travelled.

My wife and I recently took a 4 day tour of the Omo Valley with Omo Valley Tours. I have travelled to many places but this truly stands out as one of the most interesting and unique experiences of my life.

What made it even more special was the attentiveness and friendliness of our guides Shigo and Kalu. From the moment of booking to trip to departure, everything was handled with the utmost professionalism and we felt safe and secure at all times.

A big thank you to Omo Valley Tours from us! I strongly recommend this tour to anyone interested in visiting Ethiopia.

I returned to the Omo Valley after 4 years once again with Fitsum and his associates. Despite having high expectations based upon my experience in October 2019, Omo Valley Tours FAR EXCEEDED my expectations for my return tour. Fitsum and I had communicated and corresponded regarding the timing as well as the objectives for my tour. Fitsum customized his standard tour to meet or rather to exceed my needs. Besides achieving my photographic objectives, I thoroughly enjoyed the companionship of Fitsum, Israel, and Tuko - the long drives seem to pass a little quicker with them. Fitsum, due to personally participating in the tours, can be difficult to contact due to the lack of Internet coverage in most areas. However it is well worth your efforts and patience to deal with him. He has many contacts in the area and is willing to use them to your benefit. He is a local person and speaks the language. His English is impeccable.

We were in Addis visiting family and decided at short notice to take a trip to the Omo Valley with Fitsum, this was one of the most interesting and rewarding trips we have been on. Fitsum organised the four days with the right balance between meeting the tribes and down time back at our hotel ensuring that we were rested for the next day.
We felt comfortable throughout and can now appreciate the importance of having a skilled guide to get the most from our visit. Fitsum is great to get along with and helped enormously with my poor camera skills.
If there is one trip you do in this part of the world visit the lower Omo valley with Fitsum you will not regret it.
