Must visit if you are in Yaounde, it costs only 5000 XAF for non-residents which includes a very knowledgeable and very helpful guide (English and French speaking). Small collection and not extremely well maintained but very interesting, highlights include traditional musical instruments from around the country, a modern African art room and a tiny Egyptian collection donated by the Egyptian embassy. The building and grounds themselves are also impressive as it acted as the former presidential palace before the newer one was built.

The National Museum of Yaounde belongs to the Department of Cultural Conservation of the Cultural Affairs Head Office. This museum is the center of all public museums of Cameroon. At this time, it is located in a former ministerial residence on the road leading to the Yaounde Central Hospital close to the Ministry of Public Service and National Education. In the Meseum we walk around and we were shown so many tradditional art works and their histories which were all very interesting, and when coming there make sure you come with your camera because there are so many beautiful arts there, everything was all beautiful but I was not happy at the end because it was a short visit.

I absolutely loved this museum. If you want to know the historical context of this entire country, you cannot miss this opportunity. It cost me 1000 CFA, and you will have a multitude of guides that will take you through step-by-step on the two floor building. I was very ignorant to the influence that the Germans, The British and the French simultaneously, and The ancient people of Cameroon's past had on making this country what it is today. The diversified language, clothing, hand made artifacts, musical instruments, etc. show this country in a light that I had never imagined before.

This is actually walking distance from the Hilton hotel (two blocks away up the hill to your left if you are walking away from the hotel), but you cannot miss out on a true understanding of this country and its wealth! I would go back again in a heartbeat. Don't walk, run to enjoy this treat. There will be a festival going on between November 7th - 13th 2016, and I wish I were around to see ancient homes being built right on the property to show the techniques and the reasons why things are so different from one region to the next.

The museum is a former presidential palace with all that it entails. The museum is informative and has 2 floors, each divided in different sections and all sections give a real insight into Cameroon s history and culture - costs roughly 8 EUR to get in but worth the visit. Enjoy!

We had a great tour of the museum by a fantastic guide - we even took some cameroonian friends and we all learned a great deal, this is a must visit attraction for any visitors to Yaounde.

I have been to museums around the world and this was quite lacklustre in comparison. Though interesting culturally, the building was in need of repair and none of the artifacts were maintained in any climate controlled manner to retain integrity of the older relics. The guide however, was very knowledgable and made the tour interesting and worthwhile. The cost was 5000cfa per person including the guided tour.

An insightful glance at the traditional musical instruments, political history and cultural variety in Cameroon. It's worth visiting this museum just for the intricate bronze statues that line the entrance.

The National Museum is worth a visit to learn about the regions, people and customs of Cameroon. Some of the rooms were not lit due to power outage but overall, there was enough light from outside to see most exhibits. You have to have a guide along but they were knowledgeable and not pushy at all (about tips and such). You can have a choice of English or French. There are some good views of the city. Price is 5000 CFA for foreigners.

Seeing this Museum is like visiting each region of Cameroon, and I enjoyed seeing the various habitations, clothing, art and music of each region. We learned so much about the history, politics and culture of the country! We appreciated the personal, guided tour, available in English. It was very worthwhile.
It is not air conditioned, and you cannot take your camera.
