As I was planning a tour of eastern Africa, I looked at the map, and thought, “hmmm, Burundi?”. I was solo after 6 weeks with friends, and my goal was a few days to just explore real Africa. I couldn’t get into the DRCongo, due to tourist abductions, park closure and the dreaded Ebola virus.
I looked up “short tours of Burundi”, and I came upon Augustin Tours. I read reviews, and saw they did a quickie 2 day tour, that included a stay at the nice resort on Lake Tanganyika, called Club du Lac Tanganyika. It looked nice, and it was perfect.
The tour guide was named “Hypolite” (interesting, but great name), and he was the sweetest, well educated, trust worthy tour guide you could ever hope for. Do yourself a favor and ask for him. His love of country, and concern for your comfort and big sweet Burundian smile will definitely make your trip to Burundi very memorable!
I enjoyed driving all over Burundi with him, and enjoyed sharing meals with him, and feel I made a good Burundian friend!
The tour was great, well planned and included my favorite event of my entire African trip....to see and behold the amazing Burundian drummers (just wait!)
I can not recommend Augustin tours and especially, Hypolite, more. Augustin answered all of my pre tour questions immediately. I was a bit nervous to go to a “less traveled, lesser known” African country, but I am SOOOO GLAD I WENT!
