nothing worth to see going to this place. I had an excellent guy and if I heard his story about the killed hero and its reason than I started to understand the past better

The mausoleum, like the martyr's cemetery, and other monuments and memorials are completely off limits. You can's visit or take photos. When I approached the Mausolee I was approached by a group of 7-8 soldiers that made me leave the area immediately and I was told not to take photos. A bit later I walked up to the nearby Unity Monument in a park. Again, guarded by the military with plain closed cops hanging around. I was told that it off limits unless I pay a bribe. Two days earlier I was detained for one hour for walking through an open gate and into the Martyr's Cemetery at Independence Square. I took far more photos in North Korea than in Burundi. Be careful!

Before I left Kenya I had read about all the political and civil unrest in Burundi. When I got there it was different from what was being reported in the news. It felt very calm and safe and the locals were friendly and welcoming. On one of the days I walked around the City alone and another day with a lady guide (Genny). She is the most passionate and humorous lady guide I've ever toured with. When you're in Bujumbura, give her a call and she will guide you around Bujumbura at a friendly fee. We explored Bujumbura attractions, agriculture, culture and cuisine. Be sure to visit and promote local tourism. Happy travels.
