The park is a gem of nature. Many bird species, including African green parrot, African hornbill, and the critically endangered hooded vulture. Wonderful trails for walking or bike riding.

Bangr weogo is probably the best place to go if you want to chill while in ouaga. I usually went there early mornings (it opens at around 8 I think) and brought breakfast with me. In the middle of the park there are crocodiles swimming in a tiny lake (no fence!!). They are not dangerous and really fun to watch. In the evenings the park is full of people exercising so not quite as calm but still worth a visit since that's when the bats leave their homes and start searching food. Many thousands, they almost cover the sky!

Although not particularly well maintained its a nice place to go for an hour or so. It's located a short walk from the city centre. We paid 200CFA to get in although there are additional costs if you want to go into the botanical garden or the zoo.

In terms of wildlife we saw a crocodile in the river.

Many cities around the world have some wonderful green spaces (London, Sofia, Chisinau, San Diego) - I would not add Ouagadougou's Parc Urbain Bangr Weogo on that list. It is however a pleasant way to spend an afternoon and is worth a visit if staying in Ouagadougou.

Park made of natural forest, hiking circuit and sports area. Serves as a place of entertainment for youth and lovers at weekends. Early in the morning and at dusk, it serves as a circuit for running. True freshness at warmer times of the year. The patrol of the forest agents ensure security and quietness.

The Parc Urbain has well-kept paths and a small zoo that houses injured or otherwise un-releasable animals. We took a tour of the zoo with Bonaventure. He was an excellent guide - very knowledgable about the animals, involved in their care, and he clearly cares about them. It looks like the Parc also has a conference area. We didn't immediately see a snack bar when we were there, but there was some construction going on and we didn't ask anybody where it might be, so I'm not ruling out that it exists. That said, bring your own water just in case. Overall, it was a lovely afternoon visit.

As for the crocs - some paths lead right up to the edge of the swamp! Definitely a "use at your own risk" situation. Don't get croc-ed.

A possible heads up on entrance fees - I think we each paid 200 CFA (I wasn't there for the purchase), so I'm not sure if the price has gone up or if we had a different type of entrance ticket. This was separate from the zoo ticket purchase. Not a big difference (to a Westerner), but something to be prepared for just in case.

Somewhere to jog or walk with various sportsfields, the occasional sighting of peacocks, crocodiles, squirrels, brilliantly-plumed birds, and butterflies in season - it's an unusual and appreciated haven in this part of the world. Rainy season tracks can be muddy or watery. Not open Mondays unless a public holiday. Dogs allowed on a leash. Pay at one of the official entrances. Cameras not allowed unless pay a hefty fee beforehand.

The Parc Urbain is a nice outdoor spot. Various paths through the forest and its is quiet and relatively clean. CFA100 entrance to the park and CFA200 for the small zoo attached. Some sports facilities that are poorly maintained and a small cafe. Nice option for some green open space if you're in town.

Nothing particularly notable to see here but a very pleasant place to run or picnic on the weekend. Has a snack bar and a new restaurant is planned to open soon (summer 2016).
