in a very sunny day, i walked around the city by foot under the sun, to this square, called "plaça de la republica" and inside this square there is the mausoleum. entry fee to the museum and mausoleu is 200 Kwanzas (1 €) and is included a personal guide (only in Portuguese), Its very beatiful and easy to undestand the history of this first president of Angola post-Independence

For people who cherish history of African leaders in the run up to the independence movement, a visit to this place is like paying homage to Mecca for the hajj trip. it is very iconic to keep the flame of Augustinho Neto burning in the lives of the locals.

The Mausoleum is located on the Chicala road that connects the Marginal with the road that goes South to Luanda Sul.
I work across from the Mausoleum and it is a beautiful structure with manicured lawns, viewing stands for troop parades and other small building, not sure what they house.
But I have never seen anyone visiting it. The gates are always locked and security is very tight at the back entrances. It doesn't appear that anything ever happens there, as there is never activity, except for the workers maintaining the place.
The Mausoleum is extraordinary and is lit up at night, which gives it both a majestic and an eerie look and feel. With all of the new construction in the area and the beautiful government buildings going up on the hillside behind it, it will look even more majestic at night.

If you have some time to spend in Luanda the mausoleum of Agostinho Neto is well worth visiting! The staff were incredibly helpful and informative and the building is impressive.

It would have been wonderful to see the money that was put into this boring monolith, spent on the locals and their welfare. Mausoleum is definitely the right adjective.

We visited with s group and enjoyed the extensive monument. The views from above to the parliament are good and the grounds are nice. It is worth seeing all the statues inside too. No pictures allowed inside but nice to see.

This is one of those places that have the potential to be an amazing milestone in Angola . It is located in a very privileged and secure area, near the new "Assembleia da Republica " New Marginal, Presidential Palace, etc. Almost nothing happens there. An obelisk that costed millions of dollars and no profit coming from there . At least, seeing from the outside, it appears to be moderately maintained and cleaned.
This is as if you have diamonds on the soles of your shoes but you continue to walk barefoot.

Towering obelisk-like structure dedicated to Augustinho Neto, the first Pres of Angola who led the fight for independence. Its huge but not that attractive from the outside. Try to go all the way inside where he is in a large marble coffin. The room is loaded with floral wreaths from provinces of Angola, also Cuba, Russia, Ecuador, China, and other socialist nations.
Also lots of pictures of him, his family, and other commemorative photos.

You can´t get into the toilet plunger looking building. It looks and is a Soviet construction faux pas.
