Due to the virus shut downs there were few fellow travelers in Victoria Falls. We were the only two passengers on the Ra-Ikane Sunset cruise. We at first felt bad that the 2 boat pilots had to come to work to take us for a cruise, but then we realized that they were thrilled to have some passengers. One of the pilots said that in normal times there would be up to 57 boats doing sunset cruises at this time of year, but there were only a handful of boats cruising. The cruise was very, very nice. We liked the relatively small size of the boat. We saw crocs, hippos, and various birds, and the sunset was fabulous. The snacks they served us were excellent. The boat did have a bathroom. The best part of the cruise was getting to know the pilots. They shared many stories about their river experiences, and the history of the area. We will remember our cruise on the Zambezi River for a long time.

We stayed at the Ilala Lodge and for about $30 we could upgrade our included breakfast to a breakfast cruise. it was well worth it, we saw tons of birds, hippos and other wildlife. The boat is small and intimate anyway, but the morning we went, we were the only passengers. It was so nice to observe the wildlife in a quiet environment where you could hear as well as see them. The captain and our spotter offered names, animal behaviors and other information, which was great. Plus we were back early enough to still have a full day touring the falls.

This was a really fun experience! My wife and I did the sunset cruise! The boat was low to the water so we could get close to the river bank to see the animals. The boat was also only 10 passengers. It didn’t feel crowded or packed. We were able to move around easily enough when we went from side to side to get a better view of the animals. Elias and Crawford were our crew and they were great. Drinks and snacks were all inclusive which was a nice additive. The wildlife we were able to see were hippos, crocodiles, a zebra and lots of birds. We saw the mist of Victoria Falls and the beautiful scenery.

If staying at the Falls. Be sure to book this boat trip. The wonderful boats carrying no more than 8 to 10 passengers max are simply gentlemans drinking clubs on water. The boat trips is worth it for the free bar alone. But when you factor in the wildlife seen from the comfort of an armchair its worth twice the price.

We have been on a few sunset cruises here but first time with this company. Staff were good ito both service and history / animal knowledge (although bar service could start sooner!) and you are in a small group in a historic boat, which adds to the appeal. However, this does come at a higher cost and I thought other local sunset cruises where just as good - and you seemed to travel further upstream.
