About
Relive the historical journey taken by David Livingstone by exploring the mighty Zambezi aboard the Ra-Ikane. Named after his guide, the boats are full of old world charm, setting a romantic and intimate setting whilst you sit back, relax and take in the surrounding views. With a maximum of 16 seats available on each boat, the Ra-Ikane offers a unique vantage point for viewing birdlife and wildlife up-close on the islands along the river. This is unquestionably an activity to add to your bucket list when in Victoria Falls.

Due to the virus shut downs there were few fellow travelers in Victoria Falls. We were the only two passengers on the Ra-Ikane Sunset cruise. We at first felt bad that the 2 boat pilots had to come to work to take us for a cruise, but then we realized that they were thrilled to have some passengers. One of the pilots said that in normal times there would be up to 57 boats doing sunset cruises at this time of year, but there were only a handful of boats cruising.

The cruise was very, very nice. We liked the relatively small size of the boat. We saw crocs, hippos, and various birds, and the sunset was fabulous. The snacks they served us were excellent. The boat did have a bathroom. The best part of the cruise was getting to know the pilots. They shared many stories about their river experiences, and the history of the area.

We will remember our cruise on the Zambezi River for a long time.

What a beautiful way to experience the Zambezi River and its wildlife. The sunset was stunning!

The captain was skilled at spotting animals on the river and maneuvering us so we could see them too. We saw so many hippos, as well as crocodile and some beautiful birds.

There were only a few other people on the cruise, so there was plenty of room to move around to see the views from all angles.

We really enjoyed our sunset cruise on the Ra-Ikane. It was just 3 couples, so plenty of room and not loud or chaotic. The captain did a great job of looking for and getting us close to wildlife. Drinks and snacks were lovely. We'd definitely recommend it to others!

If staying at the Falls. Be sure to book this boat trip. The wonderful boats carrying no more than 8 to 10 passengers max are simply gentlemans drinking clubs on water.
The boat trips is worth it for the free bar alone. But when you factor in the wildlife seen from the comfort of an armchair its worth twice the price.

This was a really fun experience! My wife and I did the sunset cruise! The boat was low to the water so we could get close to the river bank to see the animals. The boat was also only 10 passengers. It didn’t feel crowded or packed. We were able to move around easily enough when we went from side to side to get a better view of the animals. Elias and Crawford were our crew and they were great. Drinks and snacks were all inclusive which was a nice additive.
The wildlife we were able to see were hippos, crocodiles, a zebra and lots of birds. We saw the mist of Victoria Falls and the beautiful scenery.

A sunset cruise on the Ra-Ikane was a great way to finish a day at Victoria Falls. The boat itself is a beautiful restored wooden vessel, and is much smaller and lower to the water than any of the other boats we saw on the Zambezi river. It only takes 9 or 10 passengers, and all seats are arranged around the sides so everyone has an uninterrupted view of the river (by comparison, we saw a number of larger pontoon boats carrying 30-40 people crammed into several rows of seats).

The two crew were attentive and worked hard to meet everyones' interests - be that lingering close to a group of playful hippos mid-stream or squeezing in as close to shore as we could when spotting land-based wildlife! And all this while making sure that the nibbles and drinks kept flowing. They made a great team.

Due to our boat’s small size, we were also able to get closer to shore than the other boars for wildlife viewing – which included drifting to within a few metres of a small herd of elephants that came down to the waters’ edge for a drink right on sunset. Just magical.

We would recommend this cruise to anyone staying on either the Zambia or Zimbabwe side of the falls. The boat departs from the Zimbabwe side of the Zambezi, but the wharf is no more than a 10 minute drive to the border bridge so you can easily be back in Livingston within 20 minutes or so. A Ra Ikane cruise is definitely one of the best things you can do with an evening in Victoria Falls!

gorgeous old boat, sitting in armchairs, great, fun, energetic and fun crew of two with lots of chat, nice snacks, and all you can drink !
A superb little cruise, there were only 8 of us aboard + the 2 crew, we seemed to be the earliest out on the river, about 4pm. went downstream to spot hippos and crocs, then upstream a long way, stopping anytime anyone saw anything interesting including more hippos, crocs, an elephant, fish eagles, baboons, due to the small size of the boat we literally went up to shore to get closer looks.
It was only on way back that we saw how crowded the river had gotten for the sunset cruise by other small and larger boats who were mainly just stationary close to the boarding ramps - I had seen top deck price for the large boats and it was same as this boat - do the small boat every time !! the large boats seem they just come out for sunset and cannot get close to shore.
Back at around 6 +. Loved it.

This sunset cruise on the Zambezi River was booked by our travel agent and we were thoroughly satisfied. There were ten passengers plus the captain and guide. The boat is small which allows the passengers to get a closer look at the wildlife that is possible on the larger cruise boats.

The guide was very knowledgable and pointed out wildlife that was difficult for us to see initially. We were pleased with the wildlife we encountered which included elephants, giraffe, impala, crocs and hippos plus loads of birds.

The food was tasty and reasonable in quantity and the drinks were plentiful. We were blessed with mostly clear skies and the sunset was beautiful.

There are many sunset cruises on the Zambezi River out of Victoria Falls. We decided on the Ra-Ikane with their advertising of getting closer to the "action" in a smaller boat and "an array of canapés". I was led to believe that with a smaller boat you'd be assured a seat by the side of the boat.
Pretty much NO to all of those items. We didn't get any closer to the shore or go into smaller waterways than any of the larger boats we saw out that night. The "array of canapés" were two small plates for the two of us to share - not at all what I was expecting. What they show in the picture on their website for the sunset cruise is the extent of what you get. We also did not have comfortable seats by the side of the boat. One of our "seats" was actually a bench. I could not sit up to the little table if I wanted a backrest of any kind. Our second seat was in the middle of the boat facing one side. Not ideal and very disappointing.
I felt this was advertised as something totally different than what we got. Considering what we got the price was much too high.
We talked to people who did the dinner cruise on a different boat line. it held about 25 people. They said they saw a great deal of wildlife and had a fabulous meal. Much better deal than what we had.

Thank you very much for your valued feedback regarding your sunset cruise aboard the Ra-Ikane. Most of our guests find our serving of snacks quite adequate for a late afternoon nibble, we apologize for not meeting your standards. With regard to the game viewing, our smaller boats are built to be able to reach the smaller nooks of the river with ease. However, with this years' rains being very low our boats do struggle in the shallow waters.
