About
Instead of immediately embarking on that arduous climb at the end of an amazing day of rafting adventure from rapids #1 to #21, seize the opportunity to camp overnight in the depths of the gorge on one of the pristine riverside beaches used exclusively for Shearwater clients. Enjoy complete peace and serenity as the light fades and the starry African blanket is revealed. Raft again next day.

We booked three last minute safaris with Muzie at the Avani Resort. The first was was a morning safari to Zimbabwe (quick border crossing first thing in the morning) with a great guide and engaging driver and our first sight of a sable antelope. In the afternoon we did a fantastic game drive and walk with white rhino in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park. There was a short, torrential rainstorm during our drive and after this the game were even more plentiful, including a hippo wandering by the side of the road, a crocodile on the road, large herd of wildebeest, a family of warthogs, zebra, velvet monkeys, and impala. Then we went with a ranger to the rhino area: what an experience to wander near six of these incredible animals. Our final safari was the day trip to Chobe in Botswana (make sure you get a Kaza visa on entry into Zambia which enables you to do all these trips) . After the car, boat and safari jeep, we had crossed the two borders and arrived at the Chobe Safari Lodge where our boat safari departed from. The amount of game that we saw on the safari was impressive (lizards, warthog, impala, large herd of cape water buffalo, hippopottamus both in and out of the water, and a large number of elephant families coming down to the water. Our charming captain ensured that we had enough time to enjoy the animals before she moved on to another vantage point. After an okay buffet lunch back at the lodge, we went on a game drive with the entertaining David. This is where the number of elephants became almost overwhelming, with family after family walking past us, grazing by the water or inland and we came across one family sleeping. When we stopped for a cold drink there were even elephant within 5 meters of us. In addition to the animals we saw on the river safari, we saw giraffe, kudu and eagles. We were delighted with each of these safari and recommend the company.

We had a lovely time with our guide Tom. We had only 4 hours to spend as we had other plans at 1100. So he took us to a nearby national park in Victoria Falls area. The safari vehicle was awesome for viewing animals and scenery! Tom was very knowledgeable about the area and animals including birds! We had a nice surprise as Tom pulled into a viewing area with raised hut. We had tea and muffins and watched as animals came to the water hole for drink! Then returned us in time for us to go to our next activity! We were limited to the amount of animals we saw, but that was not Tom's fault as our time restriction affected where we could go for Safaris. The only reason I give it a 4 instead of a 5 is because of the park again our schedule is the reason for that. Tom was great!! Ask for him if/ when you use their services/ company!

We stayed in Victoria Falls town and asked them Chobe Day Trip.
They were very polite and completely on time.
About payment, they came our hotel with card machine and we paid by card.
We didn't need to pay in advance.

We were together with my son 6 years old but we could pass Botswana border without any problem. We brought Birth Certificate in English and their staff supported us at the border immigration.
We saw a lot of animals which live in Chobe National Park.
It was amazing experience. Our family cannot forget that day.

We booked the jet boat experience. The website doesn’t really mention this requires a very steep (using ladders) climb down into and back out of the gorge. We managed it ok, and the views were spectacular, but some other guests had to decide not to do the trip because they couldn’t manage the walk, so beware of that fact.

The boat then drove to the base of the waterfall which was spectacular.

However we then had an incident which was very dangerous and we are lucky nobody was more seriously injured. The boat is a hard jet boat with no harnesses, restraints or padding. This type of boat should NOT be driven to jump in the air as there is nothing to prevent passengers from being thrown from their seats. The driver “jumped” over a very large rapid and we were all thrown in the air despite us following the instructions to sit down and hold on to the bar. My partner and I landed very heavily (I even had whiplash the next day) and the passenger next to us was thrown at force onto the metal bar and was quite badly injured - I believe had had to go for an X-ray and seemed to be in a lot of pain.

The views were amazing and this has the potential to be a fantastic experience but ONLY if the boat is driven properly, or padding or proper restraints are put in place for passengers. The potential for serious injury or even to be thrown from the boat is huge as all you have to hold on to is a slippery metal bar with no grips that you have to lean forwards to even reach. No matter how strong you are that bar doesn’t stop you rising up and being thrown back down onto the hard seat hurting your back, neck or worse depending on how you land.

We had an amazing Guide called Smart. His insight into the Falls, it’s history and the local culture and people made our experience one of the best ever. Top that with the wonder that is Mosi-oa-Tunya, and you have a recipe for an unforgettable day.

We are currently staying at the Zambezi Sun and we contacted Shearwater to arrange a day trip to the Chobe National Park. We paid 735 US dollars, almost £500 for 2 adults and a 13 and 11 year old. We were asked to walk over the bridge to the Zimbabwe side to pay for the trip which we did and we were so looking forward to a fantastic day out.

We were collected by bus yesterday morning and all went well. The weather was truly horrible with very heavy rain but we had waterproofs and were well prepared. After crossing at the Botswana border all the other safari vehicles left and we were left standing in the torrential rain as the other 4 people on our bus had not yet arrived. After 20 minutes our guide Ronald telephoned Shearwater and was told the 4 people were on their way. They eventually arrived after 35 minutes.

We were then driven to the Chobe Safari Lodge which was beautiful. On arrival Ronald told us that the boatman/ guide for the river trip had not arrived and that he would hopefully arrive soon. Another wait of 30 minutes and when the boatman arrived, Ronald stated that it was up to us whether we wanted to do the boat trip in the rain as "we probably wouldn't see much anyway". What an appalling attitude on our first and only trip to the Chobe.

We stated that of course we wanted to do the boat trip but due to the lateness of the guide it lasted for only 2 hours. Afterwards we returned to the lodge for lunch and were collected at 1.35 by Ronald who drove us to Chobe. The paperwork was completed at the gate and we started the drive just after 2 pm. Ronald was quick to tell us that we would be very lucky to see any animals because of the rain (which had stopped by this point) and drove so quickly around the park that he missed several birds that we would have liked to photograph. When we asked him to stop and reverse to see some birds he did so but was clearly unamused and the birds flew away due to the speed Tof the truck and Ronald's ridiculous driving.

After driving for just over one and a half hours and seeing virtually nothing Ronald informed us that we needed to be out of the park by 3.45 pm. So we left.....

This trip was an absolute disgrace. Our children were so disappointed as were we. Out of an 11 hour day we spent 3 hours 45 minutes touring the park. The attitude of the guide provided by Shearwater was disgraceful. We received no information on any wildlife or the Chobe itself and he was clearly fed up from the very beginning. We fully understand that animals do not appear on demand but the exceptionally poor quality of this trip had nothing to do with that....or the rain.

In contrast we spent a day at Kruger last week. The weather there too was mixed but the guide was outstanding and provided us with so much information on everything from the wildlife, park itself to the trees and plants.

We are gutted to have spent so much hard earned money on such a waste of a day. Sloppy guides who cannot even arrive on time, who clearly have no interest whatsoever in anything but money.

We emailed Shearwater on our return to the hotel last night and also asked our bus driver to pass on our comments. Wonder if we will receive a reply!

Hi, it is most disturbing to receive such a review, given how much I know we succeed in doing such a first rate job. The appalling weather should be no excuse for this. We will investigate and reply more fully in due course. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

I travelled solo to Victoria Falls for the first time and can highly recommend Shearwater for everything. I contacted them about 4 months before my trip about what I wanted to do and they created an excellent itinerary for my 5 days including airport transfers, helicopter tour, elephant safari, walking with the lions, guided tour of the falls, Chobe Day Trip and a swim at the edge in the Angels Pool. Jubane let me pay on arrival even coming to my hotel (The Kingdom) to put my payment through. Vouchers were dropped back the same day. The whole process was stress free and all the tours ran as planned and pick ups were on time. All the staff, guides and drivers were super lovely. I would recommend them to anyone :-)

I took the sunset cruise out of Victoria Falls. I was picked up at the Kingdom Hotel. My ride was prompt, the people picking me up were friendly. We stopped at a couple of other hotels, then we were off to the boat. Boarding was very quick and easy. The boat I was on had two levels, I stayed down on the main level. There was a bathroom and a small bar set up for purchasing drinks. I saw a number of hippos. I will not say this is spectacular, but it is a nice thing to do.

We organised a Chobe day trip from Victoria Falls with Shearwater, and it was the best day of our trip!
Although it takes a while to get to the Chobe safari lodge, it was worth it. The boat ride was lovely, and the game drive fantastic. We saw hundreds of elephants (with babies), lots of birds, hippos, crocs, giraffes, a leopard and seven lions hunting a family of warthog. Best day ever!
We also organised a helicopter ride through Shearwater. Although they were late in collecting us from the hotel, the helicopter ride is fantastic. The falls are even more spectacular from the air.
Overall Shearwater was great for both tours and you MUST go to Chobe if you're going to Victoria Falls! We thought it was far better than all our Kruger Park experiences. Thanks to Jubane at Shearwater for being so helpful when booking
