- christopher PMelbourne, Australia598 contributionsVictoria Falls the largest falls in the world.Victoria falls is a must to do on the list if you are visiting Zambia, Zimbabwe or Tanzania. We choose to stay at the Avani resort this is due to the entry is right at the end of the boundary of the hotel. You cross the area where all the souvenir's shops are onto the entry and follow the walking track up to the bridge to watch the most beautiful water falls with the rainbows and beautiful track walking down. Our visit was just after the rainy season and plenty of water trending down the falls.Visited April 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten February 9, 2024
- autumncsSingapore, Singapore849 contributionsA highlight of the African continentLocated on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia, Victoria Falls is the world's greatest sheet of falling water, with a width of 1708m and an average height of 100m. The powerful falling water generates a huge spray which can be seen 30km away. The magnificent sight and sound of the falling water and the vast biodiversity in the region earn Victoria Falls its status as an UNESCO world heritage site and make Victoria Falls a highlight of the African continent. (Tip: Visit in the afternoon for better lighting, higher chance of seeing rainbow, and less crowd. Bring raincoat or umbrella and wear waterproof shoes with good grips as the spray from the falls feels like heavy rain and makes the road slippery.)Visited February 2024Traveled soloWritten February 12, 2024
- AonMileFailteAlexandria, Virginia330 contributionsStunning & Powerful Wonder of NatureOur visit to the Falls in Feb was a great compromise on water levels but also less spray so you can see the Falls. The high water is in March and our guide told us that the areas we were walking are covered in water during the high season so we were glad to visit this month. The walking tour provided by our lodge was fantastic! The Falls have approx 18 points to stop and view which really gives you the perspective on the size of this natural wonder and the volume of water passing through. The background information at the front is interesting for a first time visitor and the comparisons to other well known waterfalls provides some scale for visitors.Visited February 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 21, 2024
- Bev C30 contributionsAmazingStunning. Amazing. Breathtaking. Easy walk through rain forest following the numbers. Tour guide not needed. Took about an hr. You will get wet from the spray but soon dry in the sun. Entry fee is expensive for tourists $50 each.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 22, 2024
- WazieLondon, United Kingdom54 contributionsSpectacular but overpricedObviously if you're going to Vic Falls, you have to see the falls and they don't disappoint. Visiting all the viewing spots takes between two to three hours. When we visited (April) some of the spots weren't visible due to the spray, whereas others had a perfect view. There was a medium number of people there at the same time but it didn't feel crowded. The reason for four stars is that it's overpriced and the site should be maintained better (toilets and the fences/vegetation around the viewing spots).Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 19, 2024
- OKLonghorn_Guy164 contributionsFabulous FallsWe extended our safari in South Africa to include a trip to Victoria Falls. It was well worth the visit. These falls deserve all the credit they get for being amazing. Be sure to walk down along the edge of the ravine. You will be in a permanent, but exciting rainfall.Visited April 2024Traveled with friendsWritten May 26, 2024
- sueoc76Orange, California44 contributionsExperience Vitoria Falls from both sides! We visited the Victoria Falls Zimbabwe side with a guide, though we felt that because signing is so good that a guide isn't really necessary. We also went to the Zambia side, which is much less crowded (we were the only tourists) and has better views. Note: in order to do that, you want to buy a "double entry visa" for Zimbabwe, which cost $45 when we entered. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes (or sandals), we walked close to 8 miles by the time we did the tour on the Victoria Falls side, then walked over the bridge to the Zambia side and through much of that park, then back across to Zimbabwe. You will want to rent ponchos at both parks.Visited May 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 3, 2024
- drBhandari39 contributionsMemorable trip to Victoria fallsWe saw the magnificent Victoria falls from Zambia, as wellas Zimbabwe side. Plan your visit on Full moon day - especially May / June when you can see the rare Moon ( Lunar ) bow over the falls. Also if you like some thrill, take microlite flight over Victoria falls - amazing view of moving rainbow 🌈 from microlite & helicopter. Also try day trip to Chobe National park from Zimbabwe side.Visited May 2024Traveled with friendsWritten June 16, 2024
- Georgie ECambridge, United Kingdom118 contributionsA world wonder 💧Absolutely mind-blowing to see this in its full glory. The story behind its “discovery” is so interesting, so would recommend getting a guide to take you round if you can. The viewing points are very well laid-out; we saw some people with access needs making their way around without too much trouble, so it is open to all.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 23, 2024
- Season101Atlanta, Georgia121 contributionsLunar Rainbow Didn’t DisappointWe scheduled our trip around the lunar rainbow and were not disappointed! Every month on the day of the full moon, there is a full rainbow over the falls. We walked in, and there it was! Although it was slightly crowded at 7:30PM when we arrived, I was assured it would be even more crowded later in the evening. It was spectacular.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 30, 2024

We went in July: dry season with "little water" falling (I don't want to imagine what it will be like when it is in full fall).
We arrive at the door of Victoria Falls National Park on the bus courtesy of the lodge we are staying in, although you can walk (it is about 15 min from Victoria Falls village center) but it is an open nature park area with animals, so you should be attentive to the hours (avoid when it gets dark, before dawn and, of course at night... to avoid unnecessary scares). Cataract Park if closed with perimeter fence.
If you have forgotten a raincoat, they rent them in the stalls that are across the road, in front of the entrance gate ; depending on the time, volume of visitors .. or the face that they see you the rental price varies from 2 to 4$. They won’t have exchange (which they tell you when you return the garment) and that will force you to buy something. There is also a "folkloric" group, paid if you want a small traditional dance video (?)
Admission 50$ : They accept payment by card, euros, US dollars or currency of neighbouring countries. They make change 1€ = 1$.
As soon as you enter there are interesting explanatory panels, suggested route plan and points of interest. You can also book the tour with Guide.
Some area can be slippery/hazardous from the water that splashes from the waterfall: closed shoes are convenient and prevent slipping (in fact point 15 is called "danger point" and includes a stand for rappelling - I did not ask the price). Keep an eye on monkeys/baboons, they're quick and know that backpacks can have groceries. There are also many birds and some shy herbivores.
For those who do not want to walk too much (the front of the waterfall passes 1.7km) one option is to do the route in reverse to that suggested in the panels... shortcut by the path that leads from the WC area to point 16, and return by the bank and the different viewpoints to point 1 (Livingstone Statue); returning from point 1 to the exit we find toilets, a small shop (they did not seem very interested in selling... perhaps because it was approaching closing time).
It is an essential visit, regardless of whether other great falls have been visited.... the fracture in the earth, the noise and the rainbow show is impressive.

The falls itself are 5 stars and amazing, with breathtaking views from the vista points along the trail. The 4 star is for the management of the attraction. When we visited only one ticket counter was open so we had to wait for 20 minutes standing in line to get our tickets. They require some form ID so they know how much to charge you. They don't advertise that requirement and there are absolutely no signs anywhere, other than a sign saying Victoria Falls, which is also sponsored by a local gin company do it has a message about alcohol, which made no sense. Can't the government make their own proper sign?! At the time of our visit, USA residents have to pay $50 per person entrance fee. But not even a map or any information is provided - just a receipt. If you don't have ID they spend a lot of time figuring it out and keeping everyone behind waiting. So take your ID and a rain jacket, as the vista points get pretty wet from the spray, and ask your hotel for a map which has vista points marked. We walked to all 16, which took us a little over an hour and then we revisited the ones we really liked. Oh yes- they also have NO seating anywhere on the trail for people who might need to sit and take a break. For the amount they charge, they definitely need to provide more

A spectacle of nature.
We visited the waterfalls in August, they have an important flow of water despite not being the rainy season, the route is a nice 2-hour walk on a well-defined route, no Guide is absolutely necessary, even if you want to find those who speak Italian. The route is simple, even for those who do not walk, the show is wonderful, the entrance price quite high, 50 € per person. At the exit if you have a passport you can cross the Victoria Bridge that borders Zambia. You do not need to pay the visa in the new state. Be careful not to dwell with those who propose, along the bridge, the purchase of Zambezi dollars.

Obviously a beautiful setting created by nature. Very disappointed with the cost of $50 entrance fee per tourist compared to $7 for a local. Alongside that, I interacted with 2 members of staff both of whom were rude and unwelcoming. The lack of efficiency in dealing with the customers also led to long wait times to get in. Expected the pathways to be better maintained and at least a smile. The extortionate cost made sure that I avoided spending anything on refreshments and gifts within the Falls centre. Such a shame to come to such an attraction and leave feeling like you’ve been scammed.

Victoria Falls marks the border between four states: Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana and Namibia, although only the first two have direct access.
We visited them on the Zimbabwe side.
Extraordinary spectacle of nature: the name "Smoking Thunder" with which they are called is absolutely appropriate.
There was a prospect of a water shortage, but instead we saw them in their spectacular splendor.
A guide is not necessary: the 1600 meter visit route is practically unique and the observation points are very well signposted.
The only flaw is the price: $50 per person seemed excessive to me: it still remains a unique show in the world.

Victoria Falls is one of our world's most beautiful and breathtaking natural wonders of the world! You will hear the sound of the falls and feel the mist before seeing the falls themselves. We recommend going on a guided or your own walk on BOTH SIDES of the falls to really get a sense of the size and drama of the falls. There is a clearly marked 2 km walk in the national park in Zimbabwe (see my review of the park in a different post). Recommended also is a guided walk on the Zambian side. The guide picked us up at our hotel, helped us with crossing borders, paying for park entrance fees, safeguarding items in a locked van, taking photos, and even offering advice for negotiating for things to purchase at the market located just outside the entrance of the park. We booked through the tour guide Off2Africa, who contracted out Bushtracks Africa, both highly recommended. On the walk, we learned a lot about the cultural history of the falls, which included indigenous and scientific knowledges. Our guide also provided rain ponchos, but we got completely soaked from the dramatic spray and mist of the falls, which shift depending on wind. (Either bring a waterproof camera or wrap your camera in plastic.) The rainbows are stunning, and as you walk, including on the suspended bridge, you get a different experience of the falls. The park closes at 6pm. You can end your walk by having lunch or a drink at the Lookout Cafe or at the Hotel Victoria Falls (for high tea).

Victoria Falls is amazing! Although we were not there during the height of water volume, the falls are spectacular and definitely do not disappoint. It is worth it to stroll along the falls leisurely and not be rushed, just to experience their full magnificence.

We stayed at the Royal Livingston Hotel in Zambia during our travels to Victoria Falls. To view the falls we traveled into Zimmbabia. When entering Zimmbabia you will purchase a Visa for $30US, no credit cards or other currencies. Strongly recommend you have a guide when entering Zimmbabia. Helped with the visa process and guided walking tour of the 5 falls and 16 viewing spots. The guide also provide rain coats for the heavy mist. The falls were a bucket list item and the experience A+. Our visit was in June (winter) when river was high, versus summer with low water flow.

End of August, quite a bit of water again, a portion of 200 m, therefore reduced, of rain forrest, where it rains on us from the trees and therefore raincoat recommended. All points of view apart from 1 are "visible", i.e. without the wall of spray caused by the fall.
You can rent a poncho for $4.
The restaurant in C. Lelouch's film with its view of the falls does not exist, for your information, they placed 3 tables on the path... In case you were looking for it 😉.
Sensational, of course.

It is just amazing. We went not long after the wet season so we could not see much of the middle section of the falls as it was like walking through torrential rain (make sure to take some sort of raincoat) - the falls from just the spray were bigger than many falls is Australia. If you want to see the canyon they fall into then later in the year will give more visibility at the cost of seeing less water. We did the falls from both ends so I would highly recommend getting the multi entry visa for both Zimbabwe and Zambia as it made the border crossings very easy. We did over 20,000 steps to see both ends and as we only had an afternoon it was a bit rushed at the end - we could not get down to the base on the Zambian side. We also did the jetboat below and helicopter above, both really good. Only one bit of advise - GO AND SEE IT.

Hi - our 18-day South Africa trip ends in VF. We have one night before flying back to Cape Town. We will cross the border to see both sides of the falls during the day. Question: Should we stay in Zimbabwe side or Zambia side for our one night ? Thank you in advance

I am going to Vic Falls (from the Zam side) and will be crossing by foot into Zim for an hour or so. My main goal there is to get local currency coins. Can anyone recommend a place near the border (ideally not a currency exchange window) where they give change in Zim$ ? Maybe a restaurant or something close to the bridge that won't find it weird if I ask for my change back in all the coins? :)

A poncho is a must. While it won't keep you completely dry, it does help! Be sure you are okay with your shoes being completely soaked. We rented a poncho from a gentleman at the market across the street. The only thing was, when returning it, he really wanted us to buy some of his trinkets. We also did the falls in a different way. We took a boat and went in the actual falls. They gave us a very nice lunch and we actually hung over the falls! You can see where we were from inside Victoria Falls. Amazing!

I'm going to be going to Victoria Falls (Zimbabwe side) in a little over a month. I'll be in and around that area for approximately 7-8 days. I know credit cards are accepted there, but I want to have some cash on hand too. Any suggestions on what a reasonable amount of cash to have on hand would be? Thanks!

Everything is very expensive, and VISA machines do not always work, so I would suggest USD100 per day and don't forget to take a lot of small bills.

Hi, we will travel to Namibia and Botswana in September this year. Offcourse we would like to include the Victoria Falls. What's the best way? A organized day trip? We would like to see the Zimbabwian side, but fling with a microlight looks also very nice. But I think this is only done at the Zambian side...
will this fit in only one day trip from Kasane..?

Beste Christa,

In 10 Tagen geht's los!

It’s a tough call. If you want to do the Devil’s pool at Victoria Falls it has to be in the dry season. It’s not open in the wet season as you’d be washed over the cataract to certain death. The falls were still spectacular when I visited in Sept., but there are large areas of dry falls then. I might have to visit them again in a wetter season to be even more awed. I read online that you’d need to wear a mac in the wet season as the mist is so abundant and it’s hard to see the Falls because of that.
I was super impressed with the Great Pyramids and would’ve liked to spend more time there. Time was limited as I was on a tour visiting most of the renowned sites. We were only there about an hour or so. If you do an independent tour, you can spend as much time as you want. For an extra fee, I went inside Cheops briefly, which I’ve reviewed here already. I believe that you can enter others also.
