What should be a pleasant Sunday morning experience today turned into a complete nightmare after having got lost today. Despite assurances to the contrary on entering the complex after querying the signage system we where assured all was in full working order. We chose the 5 k route as we had a commitment to meet which we have now missed. We ended up walking 11.02km and going round twice, picking up other lost people on our way. Only when we phoned did someone eventually come to our rescue.
Had we been elderly or pregnant or walking with small children this could have been catastrophic.
I suggest someone in your organization takes this seriously and spends some of the entrance fee on clear signposting ( colour coding alone on old trees is not sufficient.)
Arrows and numbers and and clear signage in English and Shona Is what is needed. It’s not rocket science.
Please wake up and spend some money on making this a top activity for Harare that it clearly once was.
Would not recommend.

Great woodland within Harare. Having only one free weekend in Harare amd limiter time, this was a great place to visit. Easy to find and well priced. The trails are well marked and the staff friendly. I hired a bike for $5 and had fun doing the 10km loop. There was a heavy downpour but it didn't prevent my enjoyment. The highlight was being close to some Zebras and Eland who were hanging out close to the track.

Great place to get away from it all in Harare. Well marked, clear trails. No rubbish anywhere. Great viewing platform and lovely cafe. I highly recommend the chocolate brownies! Staff are friendly and informative. A great day out!

A great little reserve, not 5Km from the centre of Harare. Entrance is free to OAPs like me. Loads of interesting birds & insects, in addition to the zebra, giraffe, eland & impala that roam the area.

Judith was very helpful with her local knowledge and friendly in the gift shop
The Rangers in the woodlands were helpful and knowledgable.
The whole area is well maintained / kept clean off litter , the different colour coded routes are well signed on various trees
The observation post gives a great view of the animals grazing around the waters edge with excellent photo opportunities.
My 3rd visit in 7 months from overseas as it makes a good day out as an individual or group .

We heard there aren't many animals to see so we were a bit skeptical. In the end, it was totally worth going. It is super close to city center, the staff is friendly and there are quite a few things to see. Ideally you should go in the morning to see more animals. We were after 3 PM, but still saw quite a few during the quick bushwalk. The guides were very informative and we got very close to giraffes and zebras, while also seeing a few other animals. Also we saw tortoises, birds and all sorts of other wildlife. Overall, a very good visit, but better go in the morning.

Visiting from the UK and thoroughly disappointed. The staff werent friendly and the price was shocking for what we got to see. Two crocs and a few tortoise. Hmmm went to the viewing platform and only saw zebra.. Not worth the high price.

Offers a great outdoor experience right in the middle of Harare - offers some very good bush walks in plains vegetation on level open paths that will not be a challenge for the infirm or the young, a great venue to commune with nature. Also offers regular events like dog shows and other fun family things.

If you're in Harare and have a morning or afternoon to spare and love nature, don't miss out on Mukuvisi Woodlands. It's a wonderful area with a variety of animals and 3, 5, 8 and 10 km well-marked trails where - if lucky - you can encounter some of the animals that roam around freely and can be seen at the waterhole (feeding is at 2 pm). It's a great place for kids too. As some of the reviews mention, it's a bit run-down, it's true, but still charming and maintained. Currently, there are a lot of birds (e.g. grey hornbill, wattled plover, storks on their way to Europe, etc) as well as mushrooms to be seen.

hi, i would like to know about the activities that takes place at mukuvisi woodlands
Written January 15, 2018
You can do a normal walk in the park small section. Or you can do a walking safari where the bigger wildlife are kept. Or I recommend a horse ride safari as you will get closer to the wildlife and not have to walk so much.
Written January 16, 2018
I am unsure as I was there during the weekend, but the horse riding is a guided tour only.
Written December 4, 2017
Is Mukuvisi Woodlands open everyday of the week and can horse riders.
Written December 3, 2017
Open every day, unsure about horse riding. Maybe contact the management.

I enjoy walking. What distances can I walk without retracing my steps
Written July 16, 2017
Yes you can walk with the aid of a guided tour.I was at Mkuvisi on Monday 13th November,2017 and it took us about 2 hours walking around. The giraffe however is now a bit violent but if you keep your distance it will not attack. The other animals are quiet friendly. The horse rides are still being done at $2 per ride. A great place to bring the kids. The birds however need a bit of TLC.
