We went for the Star Wars but discovered a beautiful canyon. It's the filming location for episode 4 and raiders of the lost ark. It's extremely pretty. It is a decent hike though so dress accordingly and take water. It involved about an hour of walking over rough terrain. The best way is to get a guide to take you as part of a day trip around the area.

An amazing, beautiful and interesting place. Used in filming locations for Star Wars episode 1, where Annakin Skywalker goes pod racing; also, Indiana Jones and the last Crusade, where Indi, Sean Connery and Denholm Elliott are in the nazi tank fighting. We didn't go all the way up, 38 degrees, blazing sun, uneven ground. Also, it was eerily quiet!!

Very friendly driver took us in an offroader across the canyon where you can see mirages and 'sand roses'. After asking him if he had ever got stuck, he replied 'no never its only the young daft ones!' He then proceeded to get stuck in a sand dune which was pretty funny! The drive did go on for a little bit too long, but its something we probably wont get the opportunity to do again!

We went by ourselves. It's easy and free. You only have to have a car.
We didn't like this place.
It's kind of fake and there were lot of tourists in the river.
But, if you have time it's interesting to know about the Oasis.
It's free.

This place is unassuming when you pull up, but after you quickly start walking up the narrow canyon, each turn and bend blows you away with breathtaking scenery. I didn't want to turn back.

We stopped here on the way back from the salt lake. Apparently some of the Star Wars scenes were filmed here. It’s not far out of the way and it’s probably worth the detour. I don’t want to big it up too much but it’s quite rugged and interesting scenery.

We stopped here for the Star Wars tour and just kept hiking this amazing canyon until it was time to leave to make our reservation that night. The formations are interesting along with the shots from Star Wars. Nothing special about them other than being there. As a geologist I found the rocks themselves quite interesting to look at. Bring water, sunscreen and a sense of adventure and this can be a nice stop during low season to enjoy nature.

Sidi Bouhlel Canyon is an oasis at the foot of a rocky hill. There is an old town here which was abandoned and a new town built near by. There is a stream that flows down from the hill. There is a small waterfall. You can hike up the hill and explore the rock formations. You can get a great view of the desert from the hill. We enjoyed it very much.

Sidi Bouhlel canyon is located in Chebika region, Touzeur. It is a virgin natural landscape. You can see the canyon and its geological formation like silex nodules and Lumachelle limestones...water falls..etc. it is recommended to visit it between november-february. One thing, touristic walkways is not renewed after last year rains.

The driving from Tozeur across the salt lake and the desert was very exciting and full of beautiful experiences. The arrival of the mountain oasis is enchanting. Chebika is best experienced before you head on to Mides and Tamerza, after crossing the Chott el Gharsa, which most of the year just looks like a wide barren field.
Chebika belongs to the collection of unlikely desert oases of the mountains north of the great Tunisian chotts. View of the canyon takes breath away. Most of the year it is so exposed to the sun that it once was known as Qasr el-Shams, Castle of the Sun.
The driver was exceptionally very calm and very friendly, all praise.
