Also known as the Medina, you'll find everything to shop and buy from soup to nuts. This market area appeared filthy compared to other souks, marches and medinas we've experienced. Very colorful and photogenic plus highly atmospheric.

Out in the morning after a rainy night , for dates in Touzer. The market is a place where you can find a variety of tunisian souvenirs, good food and local veggies, fresh bread, and lot of dates ,as well as dates sugar and dates syrup. The Medina is unique as every Medina in Tunis. Oriental markets are places not to be missed !

It’s very delighted to walk around the old market. I can feel the daily living of the local people and all are friendly. They would say hello to tourist and welcome photo shooting. I buy the handmade bags with very funny pattern at a bargained price.

Exploring medina it is worth to spend some time on the market-souk. Nothing special, just another Tunisian market. But always colorful and fun! I had fun finding lots of cats around carpets and other traditional items...

Lush and exotic, Tozeur is an oasis and thriving, age-old market city on teh edge of the Sahara. We took a trip into the desert at dawn to salt flats and a camel ride in 55 degree C heat at 5 in the afternoon ! Beware, as always, of hawkers. Our 'authentic' camel ride into the desert was intercepted by blokes on motor bikes suddenly appearing with ice-cold drinks at ludicrous prices. We literally had to grab the cans from our children's mouths as the hawkers pressed them into their faces ! Not easy getting of camel to do this. All part of the jolly experience of North Africa. You never have to buy, but saying 'no thanks' can take some time.

Tozeur Market (the medina)

Aziz runs a typical market stall on the edge of Tozeur’s Medina. Typical except for Katarina, his pet fennec (desert fox), and top sales assistant. He says he has a male at home, assuredly not called Rommel. Even so, his welcome is typical of the traders, keen but not overpowering. Most of his family seem to work in the market - if not in the merchandise stalls, then in the food market, where, surprisingly for an inland town, fresh fish is a speciality.

The only market around Tunisia that I saw selling local tapestries. There are other handcrafts as well. A good deal since not crowded and you would have time to haggle.
