- RochelleVancouver, Canada2 contributionsSuccessful Kilimanjaro Conquest With Mboni AdventuresMy 2 friends and I booked the just concluded Kilimanjaro trek with Mboni Adventures and it was an incredibly fantastic experience. Our crew consisted of 10 porters and 1 cook, led by Frank the senior guide and Joseph his assistant. They were friendly, jovial and good people to be with. They did everything to keep us safe and comfortable during the trek. The trek started of slowly with the guides setting a comfortable pace, teaching us about the mountain. Every morning brought us to different habitats as we got higher up the mountain. Frank was very particular with our health and safety. He checked our vitals every morning and evening. I had been struck by his attention to details back at the hotel when he was checking our gear against the mountain checklist. I was amazed by how strong the porters were, they carried heavy loads on their heads and always beat us to the next campsite, where we would find that they had already set up camp and started on the meals. We were provided with excellent tents, sleeping mats and bags. I was happy to wake up to hot coffee, warm water to clean up followed by a hearty breakfast. Siza our cook was outstanding. He cooked us great food in the tough mountain surroundings. I have nothing but respect and appreciation to everyone at Mboni Adventures for their excellent service and support to our successful Kilimanjaro conquest.Visited September 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 2, 2023

- Nevinod SCalifornia10 contributionsGreatest Kilimanjaro Achievement with Nafika ToursWhere do I start? I’m not very experienced hiker and I summited Mt Kili 10 days ago with the best possible guides and porters ever! It is a dream two years in the making and preparing, and now accomplished all thanks to the local Nafika Tours. My friend and I opted for the 7 day Lemosho route, Elias was on top of everything from an organisation perspective right from our initial enquiry able to advise on the most suitable routes and whether we would be best with a 7 or 8 day hike. He was a pleasure to deal with. Our guides were extremely knowledgeable, answering any questions we had, showing us everything on the trails, and even taking us to some hidden spots that I noticed other hikers missed out on. They paid close attention to each hiker making sure they were comfortable and healthy. The porters are the superheroes of the whole trip, carrying everything you need in less time. They were all extremely kind and friendly, and made you smile whenever you saw them. You could tell that the Nafika Tours crew has an amazing community built on respect. What drew me in to Nafika Tours was the one of a kind experience you get on the mountain. We had the best tents from all the different groups I saw. The tents were roomy, warm, and comfortable; honestly I slept better on the mountain than I did at home. The mess hall tent and bathroom tent were an added bonus for comfort and community. I loved having many of the campsites to ourselves as well. THE FOOD is literally the best more than I expected. The best food on the mountain. Everything is hand made and cooked in front of you. There are some amazing surprises waiting for you as you get higher up the mountain. I loved going into the kitchen tent to get warm, watch the men work, and get to know the Nafika Tours family better. I highly recommend taking Nafika Tours. You get to have best experiences and local friendships other groups do not have, make amazing friends. The whole experience makes me want to go and live in Tanzania. Anyone looking for an incredible, life long experience, just put your trip in the hands of Nafika Tours and you won’t have any misgivingsVisited September 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 11, 2023
- Richard MUnited States1 contributionThis is the company you need to go with if you want to climb Kilimanjaro or go on Safari!!We are so glad we entrusted Tanzania Horizon Safaris to lead us on our trip of a lifetime up Mt. Kilimanjaro, given there are so many companies to choose from. After a lot of research, we wanted to pick a company where the profits went back into the community and where the staff are treated well. Tanzania Horizon Safaris went above and beyond our expectations. What an amazing experience! The whole Tanzania Horizon Safaris team were amazing from start to finish. Our head guide Jonas made sure him and the team did everything possible to ensure we had the best possible experience and reached the summit. I cannot recommend this whole team enough. Our tents were up before we arrived at the next camp as well as the dining tent so we could have a warm drink and snack. Everyone is so happy .The precision that goes into what they do is incredible and their whole focus is on you achieving your goal of the summit and getting down to celebrate. An experience you will never forget after the Kilimanjaro climb we went on 4 days safari, everything went as planned. We saw a lot of animals, accommodation was great, food, guide was wonderful, we have nothing to complain about. We highly recommend Tanzania Horizon Safaris. If you are going to attempt Kilimanjaro- go with Tanzania Horizon Safaris!!Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 13, 2023

- Durgesh SharmaTexas Gulf Coast, Texas5 contributionsOutstanding Kilimanjaro Services with Nafika Tours. Our group of 6 climbed the Kilimanjaro with the Nafika Tours this year 2023 and it was just a completely positive experience. From the communication upfront to the actual hike, the entire Nafika Tours team has been very helpful. Special shout out to Jonson and his crew of guides & porters without whom we definitely wouldn't have made it to the summit! From setting the pace (pole, pole), to continuously measuring our health to literally singing us up the final part of the Summit. Why Nafika Tours? The hiking / climbing schedule each day and period of acclimatization provided the best chance of summit success. I routinely go back and look over the many pictures and remember the great dedication every member of the Nafika Tours team provided every day. I cannot remember how many times I provided "trip to Kilimanjaro' slide shows to family, friends and work, . I think of guides, porters, cooks, and Nafika staff often, and I would be remiss if not heaping praise upon the many porters who did the hard work every day. I can say their work was an integral part in my success. The people of Tanzania impressed me as much as Mount Kilimanjaro. Our food made by our chef was always good and he also accommodated each of our needs as they arose, the camping equipment where excellent. Nafika Tours went above and beyond with their kindness and help You can rest easy when dealing with Nafika Tours , they will take care of you all the way to the summit and back.Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 16, 2023

- Eastland AMoshi, Tanzania6 contributionsRoof of AfricaLocated in Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro is Africa’s tallest mountain at about 5,895 meters (19,340 feet). It is the largest free-standing mountain rise in the world, meaning it is not part of a mountain range. Also called a stratovolcano (a term for a huge volcano made of ash, lava, and rock), Kilimanjaro comprises three cones: Kibo, Mawenzi, and Shira. Kibo is the summit of the mountain and the tallest of the three volcanic formations. While Mawenzi and Shira are extinct, Kibo is dormant and could possibly erupt again. Scientists estimate that the last time it erupted was 360,000 years ago. The highest point on Kibo’s crater rim is called Uhuru, the Swahili word for “freedom.” The mountain is also known for its snow-capped peak; however, scientists warn that the snow might disappear within the next 20 years or so. You can trek throughout the year but the best time is during the dry season Mid-December to the end of March and June to the end of October, the recommended length to trek is at least 7 days.Visited February 2023Traveled on businessWritten October 19, 2023

8 days Lemosho route is very scenic and has more days for acclimatization. My wife and I joined 4 other climbers on the trek and we have made unforgettable memories. We had Yesse, Theo and Chitanda as our main guides assisted by nineteen porters and one cook (Fanuel) as our support crew. The crew was friendly and put all their efforts to comfortably and safely helping us reach the summit and back to Moshi. In the 8 or so days we interacted closely learning about best trekking ways, Kilimanjaro’s flora and fauna, listening to their experiences on Kilimanjaro on their many guiding expeditions that we became like family. Fanuel prepared nice dishes and served hefty portions that we ate to our fill. Zara has quality tents and sleeping bags that kept us very warm even in sub-zero temperature. We had morning and evening health vitals checks, I suffered from a mild case of altitude sickness on the summit night and Yesse was alert to notice. He requested the party to stop, then gave me a mug of (herbal) tea and luckily I was able to continue with the trek to the summit.
We or I definitely would not have made it to the top without their support. 2 very important things: hire a chemical toilet, bring low denomination euros/dollars to tip crew.
Zara is definitely doing an impeccable job for climbers and I fully recommend them

I can strongly recommend Climbkili as the ultimate guided experience on Mt. Kilimanjaro.
First and foremost, I am grateful we had Herment Mosha as our guide. He has all the qualities of the best guides-extremely knowledgeable, superb athleticism, safety-minded, kindness, friendliness, and empathy. He also has tremendous management skills as I noted with his interactions with the other Climbkili guides and staff. I have had over forty mountain guides in various locations and I can say that Herment stands with the best. In the U.S., the best mountain guides are called the “guide’s guide” as other guides aspire to be as good as them. Herment is a “guide’s guide.” This man has over 174 summits on Kilimanjaro and the respect that guide’s from other groups give him is noticeable. The assistant guides, Goodlove and Florian, were extremely strong and dedicated to the groups success also.
The entire staff of porters was amazing. Not only did they perform the superhuman feat of moving and setting camp each day, they saw to it that it was as comfortable as possible. The meals were plentiful, hot, and helped us maintain our energy. Even more extraordinary was the staff’s friendliness and palpable joy in their work despite how challenging it is. These men are world class athletes and they also had great song/dance routines in the morning to motivate us upwards.
Climb Kili is also one of the few groups that has a permit for the Kosovo camp. The benefit of the Kosovo camp for the final high camp cannot be underestimated and I think it is an advantage for Climbkili that distinguishes it from others companies. Gaining the extra distance and altitude above the standard Barack camp the day before the summit attempt is key to a higher success rate.
On behalf of my son, girlfriend , and her daughter, and myself, I feel gratitude towards the entire staff and Herment, and fortunate that we went with Climbkili for our successful summits on Kilimanjaro. I will always recommend Climbkili and Herment.

This experience was soo much more rewarding than I expected. The rainforest and mountain top views are just the beginning, because the comradery & support of the whole Climbkili group make for everlasting memories. Our Head Guide Herment led with authority and confidence, but knew just when to stop to provide history on flowers & landmarks along the way. I felt completely at ease with Herment and his Assistant Guides Goodlove and Florian watching over us on the hikes. They were very patient and supportive when we stopped to take pictures, eat snacks, drink water, and partake in daily banter. After several short conversations, it felt like everyone in the group (including guides) had been friends forever. It was also very evident that our Guides were friends with everyone else working on the mountain, which also gave me great comfort that they were experienced and respected by others. We had a large variety of soups, sandwiches, salads, burgers, and even pizzas one night. Several nights, we called for Chef Justin to visit us, so that we praise his cooking in person.
Everyone treated us with genuine kindness, love, and endless positive support. Their singing & dancing, infectious positive attitude, and amazing work ethic & physical strength powered us through each day.
I wholeheartedly recommend ClimbKili if you are planning to climb Kilimanjaro. Sia Moshi and her staff at the Summit Lodge take of everything and does a great job being very personable and organizing the hotel.

What an unbelievable experience!!! My 60th birthday was looming and at the last minute, I decided not to let Covid prevent me from celebrating in a unique and different way. My husband and I booked through Zara Tours and we had the good fortune of being assigned our guide, Living Maleo, and his team. We ended up being the first trek for this group since Covid began, and the comradery and joy emanating from their tents was infectious. Living's been guiding for 17 years and he's professional, experienced, knowledgeable and flexible. Not only is he highly respected by his porters and crew, but he also understands the unique goals and motivations of his individual clients. By a bizarre accident, I'd had a lobe of my lung removed 7 months prior and, despite being acclimated and fit, my chances of summiting were unclear. When I explained my situation to Living in our pre-climb meeting, I made it clear that my goal was the overall experience, not the summit, and if either he or I noticed my condition deteriorating, I wanted him to not hesitate in turning me around. At 17,000 feet, that's exactly what happened. Despite not summiting, Kili was the trip of a lifetime. And the guest service at Zara Tours was exceptional. They were able to book us from start to finish in less than a month, even making very last minute changes without complaint. In addition to the rushed booking, my husband and I are vegan, but Zara was more than accommodating in providing fresh and delicious food throughout the trek. We also found Zara's rate to be surprisingly reasonable..., just be prepared to adequately tip. The porters and guides definitely earn it!
If you're thinking of Kili, but concerned that you won't summit, go anyway! We were amazed at the high summit rate, especially on the Lemoshu route. If you're one of the few who don't summit, it may be the experience of a lifetime anyway. And it could be the perfect time to get it off your bucket list. We were the only two in our group and the mountain was much less crowded than normal. (If you're concerned with travel restrictions during Covid, we found the pre-flight PCR testing to not be an issue and many places will do it for free. In addition, several African airlines have folded, but if you're coming from the U.S. or Europe, we flew on KLM from Washington D.C. to Amsterdam and from there, KLM has a direct flight to Kilimanjaro (Moshi.) The cost was extremely affordable and KLM takes Covid protocol very seriously.

Great company with amazing staff and experiences, before we had even booked our trip we sent an email to a range of companies and Silver Expedition was the only one that replied promptly and with the most information.
Mt. Kilimanjaro, we opted 7 day Rongai Route as it truly is the most beautiful and scenic route. Our support crew of guides, cook, and porters were just outstanding and it is because of those guys that we really had a great time, which helped us a lot to made the summit so easy. All the crew were friendly, fantastic and amazing. Many thanks to them.
3 days safari camping
We had the pleasure to be guided by Baraka during our safari trip. He was very friendly, attentive and knowledgeable, whilst providing lots of helpful insights/fun facts into secret lives of all sorts of wildlife that we encountered. The animals we observed remain our memory and overtake every negativity.
I would not hesitate to recommend Silver Expedition to anyone who wants to trek Kilimanjaro Mountain or safari. They will give you a memory of a lifetime. I have recommended them to my friends and are already booked to use them on April. I would do this again with the same person in a heartbeat.
Thanks Silver Expedition for the memorable trek and safari I had in Tanzania.

I did the Kilimanjaro trek last month with my co-workers.It had been on my bucket list for years. I am so happy I was able to finally do it.It was very challenging physically & mentally, but the journey was worth every step. Altitude sickness can be a real problem, so you need to ascend slowly, drink plenty of water and be guided by a professional company. The CEO at Goldenice helped us choose a good route with magnificent scenery all along the way (the Lemosho route).During the trek everything went as planned,Our local guide Werema was PHENOMENAL! Werema’s English was good enough and he was a really reliable guide that we always felt 100% safe with him. He is very experienced about the mountain including all aspects of local culture and history and told us many stories along the way.Our Porters were amazing, carried all our gears, very hard working and always smiling. The food from our chef peter was fabulous, he kept us health for all eight days of our trek.Standing on the rooftop of Africa at 5,895m is simply the best thing I have ever done in my entire life.what an achievement. Goldenice exceeded every expectation that we had,I would recommend them to anyone planning a visit to Kilimanjaro.

Our group of 8 people went on an 8 day hike via the Lemosho route with The Rickshaw travel group. It was an absolutely amazing experience! We were all blown away by the hospitality of our crew. Our guides Francis, Robert, Ibrahim and Nico were very friendly and took great care of us, especially when someone was not feeling great.
Our “stomach engineer” or chef, Present, prepared wonderful food for every meal, we had omelettes, pancakes, toast and sausages for breakfast, and we would always have two or three course lunches and dinners, usually with some delicious soup.
The porters were also fantastic. They were all extremely friendly, and very helpful. For example, among others, the porter carrying my bag, Leonardo, would always get to the camps before us and then come meet us with smiling faces to help us carry our day packs.
We also had great waiters, Masanja and Toidy who provided coffee tea or hot chocolate every morning as well as some warm water for washing.
All in all, although the trek was tough for some of us and only half of our group ended up reaching the summit, we all had a wonderful experience and would absolutely recommend Rickshaw to anyone planning to go on this adventure!

Me and my wife we booked the 8 day Lemosho hike. With Uprise Africa Explorer Motta Baraka was our lead guide, he visited us at hotel the day before our hike to brief us and check our equipment for the hike. day one before Gudluck arrived early to pick us up and introduced us to Kisima (assistant guide) and the rest of the team joining us for the hike. During the hike we wanted to change the itinerary from an 8 day to a 7 day, Gudluck provided us with several options of how we could achieve this. So we ended up completing the hike in 7 days. Both Baraka and Kisima were approachable and supportive through the duration and provided daily briefings. Throughout the 7days the food was amazing and never in short supply so if you think you’ll loose weight doing this hike then think again as we were constantly fully fuelled from pancakes to popcorn and curries to fish and chips It was all amazing Hats off to our chef. Our safety and well-being were always the teams priority and baraka and kisima we’re constantly checking in to see how we were mentally and physically and offering suggestions to assist. In addition to all of this, the perfect end to every evening was a hot water bottle in your sleeping bag.I felt so safe but also pushed to the limit on this trek. I cannot recommend this enough and if you booked with Uprise Africa Explorer you know you’ll be in the best team on the mount Kilimanjaro they also offer to best price with the best service they also have insurance which will help you in case you face any problem in the mountains i highly recommend them

We are a large group of 10 friends from United States who just completed the amazing Mount Kilimanjaro Trek with Top Kilimanjaro, a really perfect Kilimanjaro Trekking Tour Operator. They advised us to take 7 days of Machame trek because of a higher success rate and we were all successful in reaching the summit. Our guides, cooks, and porters were kind, caring and interesting people to do the mountain together with. The climb was challenging but with the support of the expert crew, great equipment (tents, sleeping bags, chemical toilet…), delicious hot meals and constant care and motivation we did it. There were many remarkable individual moments on the climb however nothing beats sunrise at the summit. It was amazing! Unforgettable! I highly recommend Top Kilimanjaro!

Hi
I’m planning to do Kili summit with bunch of my friends in august and we were looking to book flights.
Return flight to Nairobi is lot cheaper than kili. Can anyone please suggest decent transport options from Nairobi to moshi?
Thank you in advance

Hi Rahulsharrma,
Yes, I can organise your climb as I am a Guide to Mount Kilimanjaro. The n
good shuttle service from Nairobi to Moshi is Riverside bus. Normally from morning and afternoon. For further details kindly email WhatsApp +255754324649.

Hi there, my friend and I are doing Kili solstice summit next year and I have a practical question about clothing. Would a parka be practical to wear higher up the climb? I seem to only see climbers wearing short jackets. I live in the Nordics and always use this length in the wintertime to warm my bum too ☺️ Appreciate your advice, thank you! Brgds, Ami

Hello there, I hope this message finds you well. Climbing Mount Kilimanjaro is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that works well with the right organizer, such as Serengeti Mamba Adventure. We trekked with this company and we all made it to the top. Proper clothing is an important factor in successfully summiting Kilimanjaro, and answers to what to bring can be found when trekking with Serengeti Mamba Adventure. They will send you a complete climbing gear list, the best time to climb, the best crew, excellent and adequate food, and the best root. Thank you for your excellent question, and I hope I can assist you.

Hi people, myself & a few friends are planning Kilimanjaro early 2021. We’re all of decent fitness. Does anyone have any first hand knowledge or advice on the best route to take? We expect 7/8 days on the mountain. I’m doing my own research however a lot of the information on the best route is very conflicting depending on the tour operators. Thanks in advance guys x

Hello Emabeck.
This is Faiza from Ungitours, you're welcome to Tanzania, one thing i can advice you is the longer the route the less chances of getting altitude sickness and high chances of summiting which makes 7 & 8 days a better option. The best route is Lemosho Route 7 or 8days will be perfect as it offers extra time for acclimatization,
We also have groups you can join on 2021 you can share experience with other climbers . Contact us we for your Kilimanjaro climb.
Karibu Tanzania.

Hi I am from the US and plan to climb Kilimanjaro in Dec 2020. Which airline would be the best to travel to Tanzania. I live in Houston, TX. Are there any COVID restrictions coming back to the States that anyone is aware of?

Hi Chetan,
Hoping it is possible to do Kilimanjaro and safari for 13 - 14 days.
At the end of February me and my friend finished a 6 day trek via machame route and 2 day Amazing safari. But, when we were at the hotel we found a group of 5 people from Canada who did the 8 day lemosho route and 4 day safari with the same company we used (Mgalaa Expeditions) for 13 days because they flew on the same day they came from the safari. Therefore, it is possible.
Check with Edgar at Mgalaa Expeditions, they are very professional company to deal with.
Cheers,Nova.

Hi Sian,
We did 7 day machame route this January and I would highly recommend Jiwe adventures; They organized our climb and provided excellent service and was very flexible with special requests. Our guides, Jackson and Mohamed, were attentive, friendly, shared stories of their life and taught us songs in Swahili. I realized that by day 3, listening to the guides is extremely important: eat when they say to eat, drink when they tell you to drink and generally listen to their advice on clothing, walking pace, sleep, etc. After 7 days with our guides, chef, porters and other members of our tour, we did feel like family.
Cheers!!

Did you shower in the 8 days? How many clothes you bring? How to pack so it is not too heavy?
Anything that's a must? we'll be trekking with the same AWC company this July. I want to be properly equipped but I don't want to buy something I will only use once. Trekking pole, I will rent from the company. Would you recommend bringing your own sleeping bag or extra mat for comfort?

No showers but we had hot water in small containers to wash. In the Intrepid Travel website there is a list of clothes. I brought very minimum clothes and invested in thermals. You layer clothes. I only brought 2 shirts and 2 pants. But fresh underwear everyday ! Headlights is very important. Good worn in trek boots. One tip id to have a full set of clothing back in the hotel so you have a fresh set to wear after a long hot shower. Also bring a large seal plastic bag to put your undies and socks to keep them dry. There is a store to hire stuff so you may think of hiring instead of use clothing once. BUT it is important to get something to be warm. You will not enjoy it if you get wet or cold. Btw my shirts were light bushwalking shirts and hiking pants. So they were very light and rolled up. Quick to dry. No jeans. I did not bring own sleeping bag or extra mat. So tired each day that I crashed. But I saw a guide bring their own inflatable mattress!
