The zoo located in Kigamboni, away from the heavy traffic of Dar es Salaam has a good variety of birds, snakes and other wildlife. You have a tour guide available if you need one to explain the history behind some of the animals there

Nice place to visit. Far away from Dar with rough road drive. Place can be developed as there is lot of potential for Zoo development.

This place is not only a total rip of at $20 USD, but it’s terrible too. I felt really sad being there. The animals are in very small conditions, and your tour guide scares them constantly to get them to stand, growl etc. This place would be shut down in a heartbeat in the UK

Fantastic place for a day outing with family in Dar. Roads are excellent. Baboons don't eat biscuit. Instead feed them papaya and chips. Also one botanical garden there as well as museum inside. however, no zebra, giraffe, peacock or rabbits.

" My name is Bahati, a survivor of two death attempts by ruthless inhuman poachers which left me maimed with my both fore legs. See how they left me without paws or claws! Even my natural movement is seriously impaired. Poachers are evel murderers. Had it not been for Dar Es Salaam Zoo, who have given me new hope in life, it is difficult to imagine how I would survive. "

Saw this short but very powerfull and heart touching words just infront of the crippled leopards new home. Some people judge Dar Es Salaam Zoo by saying that it treats animals injust by caging them, but what they do not know is that they do the opposite. They treat the animals with care and love, they preserve and conserve the enviroment. They save the animals by nursing them and providing them with security. But the most important thing about it is that they provide education to the world, they show the world that when animals are shown love they also give love in return. And to prove this they provide great opportunities to interect with animals and to even pet or touch some of them, not to forget the horse ridding club that will soon be opened in Dar Es Salaam Zoo.

Discover the beauty of Nature.
FUN, LEARN, PLAY.

actually the DARESSALAAM ZOO is a place to be and it is within Daressalaam Temeke district in KIgamboni just 23km across the ferry , they have the best natural environment conserved with natural vegetation actually even the weather is cool you cant imagine you are in Daressalaam. the wild animals, birds and snakes are really preserved in a good way it ease for Dsm people to learn about the wild life, actually also Zoological students from University of Dsm etc. comes here for field practical this is impressing they must be supported fully by the government

This Zoo is really far from the Dar es Salaam city center. You start with a ferry ride crossing to Kigamboni and then drive further inside for about 35 - 40minutes, but once you get there you realize it was worth the trouble. The place is very big in size and so quiet, all animals look healthy and well catered for which is a great thing. There is still a lot of finishing touches to be done and a fully operational reception desk is needed but in my opinion, this Zoo is so far Dar es Salaam's greatest attraction and it's worth a visit.

A ferry trip and quite a distance from Dar, but a very enjoyable time. The animals seem well cared for and its possible to get quite close.
It was quite expensive and as seems usual, one price [almost nothing] for blacks and another [8 x more] for whites.
