The Monument is located in the centre of Dar es Salaam. Built in 1927, it depicts an armed bronze soldier from World War One, pointing his bayonet towards the harbour front. The monument signifies the role played by African troops during the 1914 to 1918 War.
Visitors who wish to go to the monument need to be careful of cars. The monument is located on a round-about around which traffic can be rather bad on weekdays.

An important monument but it gets lost in the jumble of a poorly maintained traffic circle. See if you can walk to it to get a better appreciation.
