Not to be mixed with the government Artisanat shop on the same street, Youssef's business is further down the street just before the corner on the left side, a small shop and workshop a proper family business. I met Youssef and his sons and nephew a few times before purchasing a skillfully made item. Passing the shop I could see the Hamsa fatima hands hanging in the window and the quality is obvious.
At the Souk's around Jamaa El Fna you will see the Hamsa hand everywhere, but they are fake, quickly made with mistakes and shoddy workmanship and they'll charge 500 Dm before haggling which is a ripoff, some are even made in China or molds with black material on the back to hide the molding process. There are even people selling this rubbish on Ebay.
The Hamsa Fatima hand is thousands of years old coming from Iraq, the Middle-East and stretching all over North Africa and usually adorned on the front door to ward off bad and evil omans and a good luck charm, hang it in your house or your car like a St.Christopher.
O.K. Youssef is only making these pieces in brass or tin but your paying for the skillful workmanship and time which can take two days, the item speaks for itself and mine was 300 Dm's, he also signed and dated mine. He can make one personal to you with even you own design and you can watch him work, by hand from memory no machinery or templates just a hammer and different punches to carve the metal.
Unfortunately the rubbish in the Souk's is killing the traditional trade, so where the money should be going into Youssef's pocket to pay for his shop and look after his family it's going to the tourism trade and the tourist is non the wiser thinking they have bought something special when it is tourism tat.
This is the only one item I bought in Morocco so I chose wisely and I do the same in every country I visit if the tradition is still alive.

Very close to Place Jemaa el Fna.
I bought beautiful bookmarkers and keyholders for my family. Youssef is a great artist and he engraved all of them with their names in Arabic in a second.
Great price and quality!

Outstanding work, great little shop to buy souvenirs with a personalised touch! All hand made - we bought a personalised fatima hand and I love it, makes a great little memory! And you won't get ripped off - prices are very reasonable

This great little metal work shop was just down the street from our Riad in the Kasbah. I dropped by to see if I could purchase a small Hand of Fatma charm to bring health and wisdom and to ward off the evil eye. They had many different stylers and sizes on display, all made right there by the owner. He was a wonderful raconteur who showed me photos of his work over the years. He also pulled out a few prize-winning pieces. I purchased a small Fatma Hand and he engraved it right on the spot with an Arabic inscription I wanted. He has amazing talent that he is using to train his son in the ancient engraving arts. Anyway, a great little shop to purchase charming handmade metal items at very reasonable prices. The custom piece I got was less than $15 total. Highly recommended.

Youssef Bekkari, at 265 Rue de la Kasbah, Marrakech, is an excellent craftsman. He will fabricate metal works to your design, as you watch. The quality of items he makes far exceeds that of items which you find in the souks, and his pricing is very fair. The items of similar shape sold in the souks are mostly machine stamped products, often made of inferior metals, but Youssef uses proper brass stock, and hand creates custom products which are excellent! There's really no comparison; his products are much better, and cost less!

Youseff was kind and attentive and helped us create a truly personal gift for our sons. He hand engraved their names onto brass keyrings in english and arabic and told us all about the history of the workshop and of the symbols on the keyrings. They are such a special reminder of our time here !! Not to be missed!!

I came to this little shop on my last day in Marakkech trying to figure out what to take back and I noticed custom keychains that I decided was perfect. Youssef made 7 keychains infront of me in 20 mins for all my friends and I ended up buying a quality sword engraved as well.

I stayed in the hotel were Kasbah Artisanat was He makes bracelets from scratch. He made me 6 different bracelets and put names on all of them. He was absolutely amazing in the work he did by just banging away with very little equipment. He was great and made me individual souveniers for my family. I have a photo to share but will add it later on.

Messr. Bekkari is truly an artisan! I love everything about the hamsa hands I bought from him -- meeting him, learning his story ... watching him hand-craft the intricate designs. He is keeping alive a beautiful, ancient art form. He wrote my name in Arabic on the reverse of my hamsa and the one I bought for my sister -- she loves it, too. Messr. Bekkari is a real gentleman and it was a pleasure to meet him.
Our trip took us through Spain, Portugal, and Morocco -- and my hamsa is my favorite memento of the trip. Thank you!
