First time for us and we had a great Friday evening at Marrakesh observatory. The decor of the building is very nice and welcoming. The staff were very friendly and attentive and did their best to explain everything to us in English.

We got to observe galaxies, nebulas and planets using the T-600 telescope as well as a full walkthrough of how everything operates. For those interested in astronomy this is a must, entertainment for any age groups. For us it was the highlight of our Moroccan trip. We will visit again without hesitation if we are in Marrakesh again.

This is an unusual thing to do in Marrakech - but worth an evening if you have the time to spare. Beautiful observatory. Sabil is knowledgable and patient with the guests in all of his explanations.
One SURPRISE. There is no mention on Tripadvisor - or on the Observatory website about an admission fee. In fact - there is mention of a public or community service - which in most countries means it is free. My experience with observatories is when open to the public - they are free. This is not. In addition to spending 100 dirham each way for a taxi, the admission fee was 120 dirham per person - collected in the bar downstairs. At 440 dirham (44 Euro's) it was an expensive few hours in Marrakech.

This little visited attraction is about 5 kms out of Marrakech and has, as I understand, the largest private telescope in Morocco. It is about 620 mm. On a Friday night (either every week or every other week) there is an event lasting about 90 mins where an expert will tell you about the heavens and show you magical things . If you can go.
There is also a well displayed Museum with rocks

Don’t waist you time and money. We didn’t discover something new … we didn’t see anything from the telescope maybe it wasn’t a good season for sky exploration. We appreciated more the museum (eggs of dinosaurs, trilobite aged if 250 million years …) more than the telescope. We think that it’s too expensive for the visit. They say that it is a private visit but it wasn’t so professional they brought to us some chaires on the roof and told us to watch the sky with explanations … not spectacular.

Beautiful introduction to reading a bit of the night sky, and pretty amazing to see a bit of the cosmos with their telescope. The resident astronomer - Mohammed Sabil is amazing.

We visited the observatory with the understanding that they spoke English which was the case but we were out numbered by locals. Very busy evening. We managed to see the moon but could not understand the speaker
We then decided to leave.
As leaving the young lady asked why? After explaining we asked us to look around their beautiful museum with her. She was so informative. We really enjoyed it. Our disappointment was turned to joy. Would love to go back when less busy.

We arrived at the wrong time for the telescope unfortunately, but that was our own fault! As it was our last day we'll have to hope to make another trip here to see the largest telescope in Morocco. The staff and owner are so lovely, they went out of their way to make us feel welcome and explain everything in the museum to us. They showed us what true Moroccan hospitality is, I would recommend this place to every single person going to marrakech! What a lovely bunch of people! Thank you!

We found out about this through Trip Advisor, and we did have a little trouble finding out the details/info through the website (the telephone number seemed to be wrong), it was worth persevering. It started at 9pm until 11pm, and obviously it is worth checking it is going ahead as the weather will have an impact on whether or not it is happening.

We spent the evening looking through the largest telescope in Morocco, looking at the moon and stars, and it was fascinating and we learned a lot. The person talking it all through spoke French, but between his English and our French we worked it all out (not sure if there are different people on different nights though). It isn't often you get to see this level of detail in the Universe first hand, so I was so glad we took the chance when we could.

If you take a taxi out there it is well worth organising them to return at 11pm to collect you and take you back as it is a bit isolated at the Atlas Golf Centre.

Highly recommend.
