We wanted to try a hot air balloon on our recent visit to Marrakech. While there appears to be several operators in the area, we were unsure who would offer the safest and best option. After reviewing their website, I reached out to Ciel d'Afrique. They quickly replied me and explained the differences in the various options and answered my questions about the number of other passengers we could expect and how they handle inclement weather and other unanticipated issues. We booked the VIP flight, which gave us a "private compartment" within a larger basket. I highly recommend this since this can avoid you needing to fight with others for space within your assigned section. The company kept in close contact with me leading up to the flight. On the morning of our flight, our driver was waiting for us at our hotel at the stated time. We drove for an hour or so to a site outside the city. Upon arrival, we needed to complete a short waiver and then were able to sit down for tea and coffee prior to the launch. On this day, they were operating three balloons (we were told they operate as needed based on bookings but that five is the max they operate at one time). We could stand near the balloon as they unpacked and began to inflate them. Very interesting! As we prepared to launch, we boarded the basket and our pilot explained how it would work and gave us a safety briefing. He was french but spoke perfect english. After that, we were off! Besides the three balloons leaving from our site, there were five or six other balloons lifting off at similar times from nearby sites. What I noticed was that the others seems to go much higher than ours. I can't say if that's good or bad, but I feel we went plenty high, and higher wouldn't actually give us a better view. Being a bit lower allowed us a better perspective on the villages and scenery we were overflying. Actually our pilot took us very low in areas, and then a bit higher later. It was very interesting how maneuverable the balloons are (at least in terms of altitude). As we approached the landing area, the pilot gently lowered the basket. We had been warned that in some cases, the basket may tip over, so to be prepared, but our pilot sat it down perfectly and upright. We exited and the team from Ciel d'Afrique arrived and quickly packed up the balloon and we boarded the vehicles and went back to the launch site. There, we had an opportunity for a basic local breakfast, coffee, and tea, and were presented a certificate of our flight. At that point, our driver was available to take us back to our hotel. All in all, it was a great experience and we felt 100% safe at all times and felt the pilot and support team acted in a safe and professional manner. I would readily fly with Ciel d'Afrique again.

Dear Guest, Thanks for such a precise and detailed review ! Definitely helping travelers to pick up our ballooning ride for their next stay in Marrakech. At the moment very reduced activity due to the Covid19 so we are running deep maintenance actions ... We hope worldwide tourism will re-start in September 2020 ... wishing you all the best, be safe !

Based on customer reviews AND comparisons with competitors in the Marrakech region, Ciel d'Afrique was our first choice, and what an EXCELLENT choice it was! Okay, the cost did NOT include a camel ride after the balloon ride as some competitors do, but having read all the negative reviews concerning the badly treated camels, who wants a camel ride anyway!!! Ciel d'Afrique was everything my wife and I had hoped for PLUS much more besides. What a top professional company they are, providing an experience second-to-none, just 45 minutes drive from our hotel in the center of Marrakech. Considering it was 1st March perhaps we were lucky, but the weather was absolutely perfect for our 1-hour balloon ride. Thank you to the entire Ground Support Crew, but most of all thanks to our pilot Pierre Barre. What a professional and interesting guy, and if you have questions, technical or otherwise, ask him - he seems to derive much pleasure in providing answers ... However ... Having gone through all the safety and landing procedures before the flight with Pierre, perhaps my (not sure about my wife) only disappointment was that our landing did not involve being dragged across the terrain on the side of the basket in a brace position ... whereas, somewhat disappointingly (for me), it was the softest touchdown you could have hoped for :-) You could have drank a glass of wine and not spilled a drop!

Thanks for such a nice feed-back and so humor included ! Only about 2% of our landings are ''sporty'' meaning the basket is going on the side (it is made for it) and possibly being a little bit dragged by the wind. You have to come back to try again ... Thanks for your post !

The pilot Raphael was very friendly, very informative, and outstanding at his job. There's luck involved, but plenty of skill and experience needed to land a balloon within feet of where you take off, but he managed it, with help from his local expert Saeed. We went with the (much) more expensive option and had a balloon to ourselves (2 of us) though there could have been another couple with us. Spectacular sunrise, incredible views of the smaller Atlas Mountains and other balloons, fruit in the air and nice breakfast on return.

Very fun experience. You'll have to wake up early, but the sun rise experience is like no other. The communication was excellent from pickup to travel destination and the transportation. The communication was clear and precise. The breakfast was simple, but special. The special part of the experience was meeting new people that were just excited to try this for the very first time. Highly recommended.

Brilliant experience, is a must. May sound a bit expensive but once you are there, you have a very exciting experience. All the staff involved are pro and with high level of English. My BF is afraid of flying and high places but the whole trip was so smooth and safe that he enjoy every moment.
