About
André Heller's ANIMA is a magical place of surprising beauty that you wouldn't expect in the loud and crowded area of greater Marrakech. It's not only a garden: it's an impressive botanical staging. 250+ types of plants, from bamboo over palms and cacti, interact with pieces of art by Pablo Picasso, Keith Haring, undiscovered local talents and many more. Furthermore, two museum rooms present artists from around the world. Our own Café Paul Bowles offers meals made with spices and ingredients from the garden like saffron, mint, olives, etc. Enjoy fresh organic fruit juice, fine teas and delicious pastries...

- petetheloafBrighton, United Kingdom21 contributionsAn absolute delight! Way above expectationsAs a garden designer I admit I was initially skeptical about a sculpture garden put together by a performance artist. I was so wrong. The price is reasonable, with a free clean air conditioned shuttle bus from the koutoubia mosque car park and back (about 30 mins). The garden is stunning, packed with interesting art, loads of places to sit and stunning views (on a clear day) of the atlas mountains. We spent a good 4hrs there, taking in the view from the cafe terrace with coffee and cake and exploring all the niches. It didn't feel crowded with plenty of times when you'd question if you were the only ones there. They even have hammocks dotted about! Definitely recommend the trip to anyone into art, while, garden design or just relaxing somewhere beautiful.Dear petetheloaf, thank you very much for sharing your experience. - Sinéad NLiverpool, United Kingdom28 contributionsStunning gardens, brilliant art, perfect afternoon trip with transport includedAbsolutely loved this as an afternoon activity outside of the city. There’s a free shuttle bus from the Koutoubia mosque (so £9 entry fee including your 45 min car ride each way is really worth it). Gardens are stunning, with so many plants from all over the world and lots of places to sit and read / relax / nap in a hammock or grab a drink from the (very reasonably priced) cafe and chill. We spend 2 hours there, 2 lemonades and a bottle of water plus a huge plate of fries was a very cheap 87 dirham. All the food and drink is grown in the gardens and the gardeners were visibly doing their thing throughout our visit which was ace, and they were all friendly. Would recommend!! Brilliant indoor exhibition too.Visited March 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten March 26, 2022

The garden is a fascinating place with new discoveries at every turn. The cafe produced a very tasty lunch despite having a private wedding party to serve at the same time. A shuttle bus from Marrakech is included in the price but we went in on the way back from the Atlas Mountains and there was no shuttle-free ticket price. It’s a bit of a trek for quite a small place but it’s nice for a wander and a mint tea. Nice cafe with an amazing view of the Atlas Mountains.Hi Lonieroll! - Jonathan C9 contributionsWorld class gardens a short distance from MarrakechThese gardens are breathtaking. There is something to see around every corner. The vibrant colours and tranquility are lovely. The roof top restaurant isn't as cheap as other places in the centre of Marrakech, but it is worth visiting for a drink or bite to eat, admiring the beautiful view. The garden is a fair way out of Marrakech, about a 40 minute drive. My top tip is to get the free shuttle bus. It runs on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. You will need to book the shuttle bus on their website and there are only 8 places (so don't just turf up). The bus leaves at 09:30 from the "Parking and Lavarge" sign on the road behind the Katouba mosque. And Anima contact you a few days before you depart to confirm you have a place. You'll get approximately 2.5 hours before the return back to Marrakech at 12:30 and that is sufficient time to wander and enjoy the place.Visited March 2022Traveled as a coupleWritten April 2, 2022

The gardens can be seen quickly in 30mins, or take a half day to properly enjoy them and relax on a bench, in a hammock or Berber tent while soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying the sculptures and surroundings. Clearly spent a lot of money setting it up but was very unkempt and full of over grown weeds. Compared to Yves St Laurent gardens (which is a lot more expensive) it’s a very poor relative. If you’ve got time to kill then go, but otherwise wouldn’t recommend it, book the free shuttle bus BEFORE you buy your ticket and for 12 euros you get the shuttle and entry. Thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear that the visit did not meet your expectations.
The gardens are maintained by a dedicated staff of 20 people. It is our philosophy to let some areas grow wildly; this is clearly different compared to other gardens, as you mentioned in you review.
We hope that you enjoyed the rest of your trip and apologize once again that your visit was not satisfactory.

The garden is a bouillabaisse of colors and smells and is meticulously curated. The walk was very relaxing and you pretty much “discover” the art pieces as you walk along. Also, I would definitely recommend having a tea on the roof of the restaurant, the view is just breathtaking.

Unique garden 40 minutes south of Marrakech. A previous reviewer said the garden was smaller than they expected - with that in mind, I was pleasantly surprised at its size. I took the afternoon shuttle bus and the 2.15 minutes that gave me was enough time for two walks around and a drink and cake in the cafe with views of the Atlas mountains.

An amazing garden that has surprises all around. It is super well made, and a bit addicting. Looking everywhere to find everything, and it is just amazing how many works of Arts are in there, and how it all fits in a greater work of art, and an experience that is unique to each one.
Take the time to go, and enjoy.

Hi, apart from the free shuttle bus, is there another bus line that goes to the garden? I'd like to visit but the free shuttle bus timetable is not convenient for me.

You can get one of the public mini buses heading for Ourika. These buses are frequent and cost next to nothing and will drop you on the roadside right outside the roadway leading to the park. You just tell the driver you want the Anima garden. Expect to pay around 10 dirhams. There will be a number of parked mini buses going to different areas, just ask and people will help you, ensuring you catch the right one.
Alternatively get a taxi or grand taxi, they’re cheap and will take you there too. The grand taxi, particularly if shared is really good value.
The mini buses can be caught at the main bus / grand taxi station in Marrakech (not too far from Jeema El Fna Square).
I hope this helps. I think you’ll really like Anima. It’s a really beautiful garden

The bus leaves from the road down the side of the mosque - there will be other buses there that you will see - it does have a sign in the window so you know which bus. Check the website for times - I went on the 9.30 bus - it’s good to go early before it’s too busy.

Hi riacooke! Our Café Paul Bowles serves a variety of snacks and meals which are influenced by local and international cuisine, i.e. salads with spices from the garden, sandwiches, “pizza”, homemade saffron ice cream, mint lemonade etc.
How much does the entry cost?

If you check their website, they indicate it costs less on the web. I did that (I think it was around US$12). I didn’t check the dot at the ticket office, all I can say is that it is definitely worth it. The gardens are truly unusual and delightful. Crowds are worse on the weekend as it appears to be mainly “locals” (it is a way outside the centre of Marrakech so an unlikely destination for overseas tourists)
