About
André Heller's ANIMA is a magical place of surprising beauty that you wouldn't expect in the loud and crowded area of greater Marrakech. It's not only a garden: it's an impressive botanical staging. 250+ types of plants, from bamboo over palms and cacti, interact with pieces of art by Pablo Picasso, Keith Haring, undiscovered local talents and many more. Furthermore, two museum rooms present artists from around the world. Our own Café Paul Bowles offers meals made with spices and ingredients from the garden like saffron, mint, olives, etc. Enjoy fresh organic fruit juice, fine teas and delicious pastries...

An absolute delight! Way above expectations
As a garden designer I admit I was initially skeptical about a sculpture garden put together by a performance artist. I was so wrong. The price is reasonable, with a free clean air conditioned shuttle bus from the koutoubia mosque car park and back (about 30 mins). The garden is stunning, packed with interesting art, loads of places to sit and stunning views (on a clear day) of the atlas mountains. We spent a good 4hrs there, taking in the view from the cafe terrace with coffee and cake and exploring all the niches. It didn't feel crowded with plenty of times when you'd question if you were the only ones there. They even have hammocks dotted about! Definitely recommend the trip to anyone into art, while, garden design or just relaxing somewhere beautiful.
Dear petetheloaf, thank you very much for sharing your experience. We’re really happy to read that you enjoyed it and stayed in ANIMA for 4 hours!

Stunning gardens, brilliant art, perfect afternoon trip with transport included
Absolutely loved this as an afternoon activity outside of the city. There’s a free shuttle bus from the Koutoubia mosque (so £9 entry fee including your 45 min car ride each way is really worth it). Gardens are stunning, with so many plants from all over the world and lots of places to sit and read / relax / nap in a hammock or grab a drink from the (very reasonably priced) cafe and chill. We spend 2 hours there, 2 lemonades and a bottle of water plus a huge plate of fries was a very cheap 87 dirham. All the food and drink is grown in the gardens and the gardeners were visibly doing their thing throughout our visit which was ace, and they were all friendly. Would recommend!! Brilliant indoor exhibition too.

Fabulous garden. Verdant oasis full of exciting artwork
Free Shuttle bus from Marrakech was clean, comfortable and on time. The garden is a fascinating place with new discoveries at every turn. The cafe produced a very tasty lunch despite having a private wedding party to serve at the same time. Best trip in our week's stay in Morocco

    Quirky colourful gardens
Nice gardens with some really quirky and colourful sculptures. It’s smaller than expected with a fairly high entrance fee. A shuttle bus from Marrakech is included in the price but we went in on the way back from the Atlas Mountains and there was no shuttle-free ticket price. It’s a bit of a trek for quite a small place but it’s nice for a wander and a mint tea. Nice cafe with an amazing view of the Atlas Mountains.

World class gardens a short distance from Marrakech
These gardens are breathtaking. There is something to see around every corner. The vibrant colours and tranquility are lovely. The roof top restaurant isn't as cheap as other places in the centre of Marrakech, but it is worth visiting for a drink or bite to eat, admiring the beautiful view. The garden is a fair way out of Marrakech, about a 40 minute drive. My top tip is to get the free shuttle bus. It runs on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday. You will need to book the shuttle bus on their website and there are only 8 places (so don't just turf up). The bus leaves at 09:30 from the "Parking and Lavarge" sign on the road behind the Katouba mosque. And Anima contact you a few days before you depart to confirm you have a place. You'll get approximately 2.5 hours before the return back to Marrakech at 12:30 and that is sufficient time to wander and enjoy the place.

    A magical garden.
A fabulous sculpture garden with views of the Atlas Mountains and only 40mins from Marrakech by free shuttle bus. The gardens can be seen quickly in 30mins, or take a half day to properly enjoy them and relax on a bench, in a hammock or Berber tent while soaking up the atmosphere and enjoying the sculptures and surroundings. Such a relaxing and inspiring garden. There’s also a wonderful cafe serving delicious coffee, drinks and homemade food including lunches, cakes and saffron ice cream! Highly recommended.

    W o w impressed
We didn't expect too much before booking this excursion but we were very surprised of the beautiful nature and art in such quiet place. We liked it even better than the popular Majorelle Gardens. Very nice to escape the busy city for a day to relax of the beautiful nature. The home made ice tea is super good!!! And staff of the little cafe is really kind.
Dear Dvleijsen, thank you very much for taking the time to write this great review. We're really happy to read that you enjoyed the site and the Café. All the best from Marrakech!

    Interesting garden with beautiful view
This garden is great. Loads to see, it was definitely worth the 30-40 mins trip out of Marrakech. There is a little cafe there with a rooftop looking over the Atlas Mountains, which seem so close to the touch. I would recommend the homemade lemonade with mint and Moroccan pizza. I would highly recommend if you are planning on going on an afternoon trips and that gardens interest you.

Not worth the 40 min journey from Marrakech to get there
Very underwhelming once you get there. Clearly spent a lot of money setting it up but was very unkempt and full of over grown weeds. Compared to Yves St Laurent gardens (which is a lot more expensive) it’s a very poor relative. If you’ve got time to kill then go, but otherwise wouldn’t recommend it, book the free shuttle bus BEFORE you buy your ticket and for 12 euros you get the shuttle and entry. You only need 30 mins max

    Fascinating journey and garden
After 3 days of walking round the city we loved the journey on the shuttle bus and then a couple of hours in the beautiful gardens. Finished off with drink and cake in their super little cafe. Around 4 hours in total with shuttle bus journey - an absolute and little known delight

Thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear that the visit did not meet your expectations. The gardens are maintained by a dedicated staff of 20 people. It is our philosophy to let some areas grow wildly; this is clearly different compared to other gardens, as you mentioned in you review. We hope that you enjoyed the rest of your trip and apologize once again that your visit was not satisfactory.

The garden is a bouillabaisse of colors and smells and is meticulously curated. The walk was very relaxing and you pretty much “discover” the art pieces as you walk along. Also, I would definitely recommend having a tea on the roof of the restaurant, the view is just breathtaking.

Unique garden 40 minutes south of Marrakech. A previous reviewer said the garden was smaller than they expected - with that in mind, I was pleasantly surprised at its size. I took the afternoon shuttle bus and the 2.15 minutes that gave me was enough time for two walks around and a drink and cake in the cafe with views of the Atlas mountains.

An amazing garden that has surprises all around. It is super well made, and a bit addicting. Looking everywhere to find everything, and it is just amazing how many works of Arts are in there, and how it all fits in a greater work of art, and an experience that is unique to each one.

Take the time to go, and enjoy.
