WOW! What an amazing day trip from Marrakech to the Atlas mountains. I was picked up at my riad and driven to the base mountain near Imlil were our group met Omar our guide. We stopped for mint tea and local cakes, yum! Then Omar made sure we were all good to go and had enough water, he also asked if we wished to have a ride on a mule (not a donkey!) which is part of the traditional Berber lifestyle…we realised why this is a good reason after our climb began! I tried the mule just to experience what the locals do. Omar was fantastic, his knowledge on the Berber communities and history of Morocco was great. He made us all feel safe, went at an easy pace to accommodate everyone in the group and had a great sense of humour. We stopped regularly to take amazing photos, and then stopped for lunch at Ahmed’s house. The views across the valley from Ahmed’s house were stunning, as was lunch, the welcome and the refreshments! After lunch we got driven to the local camel riding place, which was a laugh and then driven back to Marrakech. Some of the things I enjoyed about the day trip; the views, interesting history, the local ways in how they help each other (this doesn’t happen in London!), lunch and meeting new friends. Omar was the highlight of that day excursion and I highly recommend him as your guide, he has a passion for people and his country. Fantastic memories, shukraan (thanks)!
