- DavidSannHamburg, Germany31 contributionsWe had great time with Yaya in the old Medina of Casablanca. He showed us the usual nice places, the market and gave a brief overview over the history of the City, the buimdings and the culture of the Arabic and the Berber. Also we got some good tips for shopping and eatingVisited August 2024Traveled with friendsWritten September 3, 2024
- ivan d2 contributionsEverything at first glance looks fine and good But quality of clothes 0 !!! Washed once and the logos are completely gone and that with everything I bought there!!! Whether I bought something there for 10-15 or 30€ I can throw away..have spent about 480€ around otherwise!!! Never again old town medina “Casablanca “.. sellers were also very angry when I just asked for the price and bought Nix !!! Embarrassing 😳Visited August 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 18, 2024
- Heli PHelsinki, Finland7,684 contributionsThe souk which opens up from place des Nations Unie concentrates mainly on false sportswear reproductions and gold jewellery. When walking further on you find Al Mukane in a restored small palace selling beautiful and wellmade modern Moroccan artefacts like leather bags and coloured glass. The exposition Nationale d'Artisanat is also nearby with quality products.Visited April 2024Traveled soloWritten May 12, 2024
- FyingKiwiChristchurch, New Zealand1,129 contributionsEnter at one’s own peril. Only one other time (while in the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul) have I managed to become totally disorientated and consequently found myself having arrived back where I started (three times), without still knowing the way out. The market in this area is huge and stretches through a multitude of alleyways through which motor scooters and motorbikes travel through at terrifying speeds with little (if any) regard for pedestrians and hawkers alike. Getting out then is one significant quest, while another is doing so without injury or loss of life. Despite this, the market is an absolute haven for finding whatever you may wish to (or not) purchase, short of machinery or property. Set in the old part of Casablanca, a wander through here enables visitors to see the historical Casablanca which is likely to be the uppermost image for most travelers to Casablanca for the first time. Seeing and experiencing it therefore becomes a must but be prepared also to spend a lot of time getting out.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 15, 2024
- Janka KBrno, Czech Republic9,379 contributionsA maze of small and dirty streets with a lot of locals roaming around. There is a lot of markets or selling spots all around the quarter. If you want to see e.g. how chickens are killed, then you are at the right place. Google Maps don't work much and it's really easy to get lost. The tourist market in medina offers a lot of expensive things and it's surprisingly clean, compared to the non touristic parts.Visited December 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 12, 2025
- Coryy20Port of Spain, Trinidad6,346 contributionsCasablanca Medina was quite average it was very small and the items were not a good quality but basic stuff that you can get anywhere else at any flea market. Compared to Robat and Marrakesh this Medina left much to be desired. The vendors in this Medina seems a little bit more touchy than other I visited. On the other hand it had less motor bikes than in Marakesh. I did not stay very long here but was still happy I went just to experience it.Visited November 2023Traveled soloWritten June 16, 2024
- amanda5805Duncan, Canada7,560 contributionsWe enjoyed a quiet, rainy day walk through the Old Medina in Casablanca and was charmed by its authentic atmosphere. The locals were incredibly friendly, adding warmth to the otherwise wet day. The experience was more genuine and serene compared to the bustling New Medina. Highly recommend for those seeking a peaceful and welcoming stroll.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 12, 2024

Located near the Casa Port Station, it was the first attraction I saw along the way to my hotel. I came back to see what it has to offer. It just looks like a regular market where vendors sell clothings, bags, luggages, etc. I just looked around and did not buy a thing.
Note that there is an area in front of the Old Medina with displays of some artworks. Free to see/visit them.

I went there as a relatively adventurous visitor. It is perfectly safe, and indeed very cheap.
But, you can easily get lost in the maze of alleys... and you can easily get out of the "traditional post-cardy" souk and find yourself in a smelly, dirty, loud street market.
What is interesting about it, is that you get to see where and how non-tourists , and poorer people do live. Once again, i think it is perfectly safe in day time, but i would recommend anyone willing to go there not to expect an aseptic marble-floored mall. Not at all.

You'll want to visit so many stalls and bring back souvenirs from this vibrant Medina that if busting with Moroccain life. It is much easier to manoeuvre though this Medina than the Fes Medina. Although both are wonderful, we could find our way through the many tight and crowded alleys of this median much easier that that of the older city Fes. They had very similar wears to sell. We did eat street food in the centre square and even did so at night...which was a super experience with the snake charmers and other performers to watch. We felt safe enough, but we did keep a very close watch on our personal belongings. Don't miss out on this super interesting part of the city.

This is a relatively newer Medina. It is a maze of narrow allies. You can find mosques, shrines, shops, old houses and quaint cafes here. You can enter this Medina from several sides but the most commonly used ones are the Rick’s Cafe entrance or the Zavaco Dome one.

We were looking forward to wandering through the Old Medina, but it turned out to be a disappointment. Lots of cheap souvenir stalls + stalls and shops selling shoes, clothes, and regular household items. The narrow streets wound around into the neighborhoods, which were not very welcoming. There was some interesting architecture and local store front shops. Lots of large wooden carts being wheeled through the street with fresh fruits, vegetables, and even eggs. (Each cart had one owner and one type of food.) Lots of people walking, some riding scooters quite fast through the alleyways, children playing, and much chaos. A few of the women seemed to smile at us, but the men just scowled. Feeling very unwelcome, we decided to make our way out.

We were accosted by an elderly man who seemed very friendly but became very persistent. I find this quite stressful as I just want to do my own thing. I was with my mum and we got lost because he was so insistant he wanted to show us a shop and we ended up very lost after we said no to him. I feel so pressured in these situations despite trying to prepare myself. The markets don't have anything special to buy so I wouldn't go again. It also felt a bit unsafe as there are motorbikes driving down the small alleyways. My mum was really anxious and just wanted to get out.
I prefer Agadir medina as they felt safer. Still get hassled there but at least the goods there are worth seeing.

We found this medina a little over the top with tat, didn’t seem to see much original products here, possibly didn’t give it enough time to wonder around. Found a lot of people didn’t leave you alone (unlike Marrakesh) you walked up someone’s alley and you knew about it for a good 10/15 minutes. Glad we went to see it but didn’t find anything of interest to purchase.

The historic part of Casablanca with its beautiful buildings painted blue and white. Despite the tradition and beauty, there are a lot of persistent sellers trying to sell you their crap. Just like any Medina in North Africa, you should enable your GPS if you’re not good with locations.

The hotel sits at the end of a highly congested full of construction street. The rooms are laid out in a very awkward manner and the lights in the room are the most confusing I have ever experienced. The TV could not receive half the channels listed and had to ask multiple times to get assistance. Once I reached the manager I did get the help I needed. Casablanca is a difficult place to visit and if this is the best in town I suggest skip your visit

This maybe a review that is in the context of being in Ramadan, after a football match nearby and during a pandemic! We ventured to the medina as two female travellers. The medina had very little things to really look at or explore - it was mainly items for locals (which in all fairness is entirely appropriate). The stalls sprawled out from shop fronts. There were some pet shops with bird, lots of cats being fed by locals (which for me is a highlight)!
The football fans were in your face a bit, especially the younger ones but had no idea what they were saying! We walked through and experienced it but didn’t really stop to look as wasn’t much to explore.

Where is the best place to buy traditional Berber sandals in Casablanca? Preferably I'd like a place where they ship and maybe take Amex.
Written June 4, 2016
Shop around and bargain to get the best price. I would only use cash in the Medina. If the shop doesn't ship and if you want to be sure the slippers are mailed, you can always mail them yourself. Your hotel can help you with DHL or tell you where the post office is.

Please, does anyone know the latest time I can visit at night, or the earliest time I can visit during the day?
Written May 2, 2016
Best time is morning 8 am to 11 am. And then 5 pm to late night. Keep a raxi handy as big demand for taxis at peak hours.

Conviene hacer un Tour para visitar Marrakesh, Casablanca y Fez? O qué conviene visitar para una semana?
Written April 8, 2016
Skip Casablanca. Do Marrakech and/or Fes and take day trips from there.
