This historic central market had lovely architecture; a variety of stalls with a colorful selection of fruits, vegetables, and flowers; and the most artistic displays of fresh fish I’ve ever seen. It’s worth a quick look!

This historical market is located across the Central Market Tram Station on Muhammad V Boulevard. It is a great place to have lunch, watch people and shop for flowers and food. You can find vegetable sellers, tavern owners, herb dealers, fish mongers, florists, spice traders and handicraft vendors here. It is one of the oldest markets of the Ville Nouvelle of Casablanca. It was conceived by Pierre Bousquet in 1917. The building was destroyed after the resistance fighter Muhammad Zarqtuni bombed it in 1953 after the Sultan was exiled by the French. It was rebuilt in Neo-Mauresque style. It has arches, large gateways and a beautiful central cupola under which stands the cross-shaped fresh fish market. Green and white facade is very eye catching. Overall a great place to visit.

From the looks of the catch on display at a broad selection of stalls, these fish were swimming in the Ocean last night. We were not in a situation where we could take any back to our ship, but those oysters sure looked good

Primarily a fish market but without that strong fishy smell. Fish arranged in artistic stacks on ice. Strong competition from small eateries on perimeter of market to get you to select your fish of choice which they then prepare & serve to you alongside salad, bread, etc. There's also stalls of fresh fruit & veg and flower stalls.

It's true that the market is important in history but it is really not worth visiting. The famous fish market was actually small and disappointing. The oyster there is worth a try.
