Its a huge monument. The actual name if you need to take a taxi is "Maqam Al Shaheed". Its shocking the first time you see it. Specially if you come from the parking site stairs. The base of the monument is closed and the guards will make you know about it. The view point to see the city its has also limited access. So if you want to see the city you need to cross the street or go to the Cable Car connecting El Madania with the city.
The two museums around are okay but don't expected to see a lot of things. Most of the things are pictures and war relics. The walk to the cable car is not the safest but still okay if you are in a group or couples. Is very easy to reach. You just follow the palm tree line till the bridge and the you go right. The view of the city from the Cable Car station is outstanding.

It was little hard to decide how to rate this site. It's a horrible concreat monstrosity (think all the sick communist monuments you have seen being torn down on national news during end of cold war). the site has a heavy military presence and you are not allowed to enter the space between the three "legs". The soldier shout at me like mad the second I set a foot on the edge. There is a very bias museum in the foot of the tower - save you money, it wouldn't be worth it even for free! BUT: there are is a 360 degrees view from this place (the bay, the city), small quiet park next to it and a cafe for some quality people watching. There is a cable car connecting the monument with Jardin d'Essai so definitely go for it. Just remember: you are going for the view, not for the monument itself...

Quite a memorial, up close it is a lot of concrete but nonetheless impressive. Views are good but you can't get directly underneath due to security access restrictions.
The museum for the Martyrs underneath it is really good. I can't speak Arabic or French but I could understand the history and have a lot of respect for the amazing few who coordinated their independence - wow!

I was fortunate to be with Algerians who could guide and advise me on the history of this monument. Follow this with a visit to the museum as full of history and Algeria's journey.

This site is well known, and considered as a symbol of Algiers (The modern capital).
You can see Algiers via this Memorial, and dominate all the Gulf Algiers.

Good museum on the war leading to Independence in 1962. The monument itself sits on the heights of Algiers. Definitely recommended.

Two museums are located there, the army museum (a morning to do the visit) and the martyr's museum as well, you'll have the chance to see and understand the French colony history in Algeria and how Algeria gains its independance.

The best of this place is to have the monument in the back and enjoy the view. One can dispute over good taste but this bad taste monument is not even up for dispute. The museum is a one sided nationalistic propaganda show without any fairness to the historic events. The only consolation is that there are good restaurants in the near neighbourhood

Bonjour!
