I love the area near Campanile and memorial union. Sitting near the lake is another bonus. You get a real feel of the university. Student help a lot. Campus is beautiful specially in summer and fall. Winter has its own charm.

I like this enclosed campus much better than the ones that are scattered through the middle of town. It has a more wholesome old-fashioned feel. The campus is a nice mix of old world (The camponile, the swans, the clock tower, etc) and many modern...More

It’s easy to self tour around Iowa State University‘s campus. The campus is very compact with many beautiful buildings, architecture, beautiful old trees, and there are many static art pieces around campus as well.

If you are ever in Ames for a home football game you have to go to the pregame tailgates. The people are inviting and wonderful and he atmosphere is all positive.

Iowa State University, besides being a stellar school, has the most beautiful college campus I've ever been on.

Stadium facilities were well maintained and overall well organized. Got fans in and out efficiently. The vending area needs work. We’ve been to others and bigger that handled throughput much better. These had long wait periods. Parking was ok but not well marked...average prices. Fans...More

This is a very nice campus. I was here to see only one thing, the school of Agriculture and Veterinarian Medicine. Because I didn't see any other degree field areas, I can only comment on the Agriculture and Veterinarian schools. The facilities are well kept...More

Transportation Necessary Question (1 Reply)
I am coming in with a group of kids end of May for the Odyssey of the Mind competition. We are flying into Des Moines and are offered a shuttle from airport to Iowa State campus. I am wondering if we need transportation in the area? Most of our interest will be on the Iowa State University, and they offer a shuttle around campus, however on our off times, is it walkable to the Ames downtown area or is there easy city bus access?

No suggestions on transportation or housing, but best wishes to you and your family while in Ames. We lived there from 2004 until 2008 and enjoyed our time. If you are looking to rent a house, given the size of your family, I would encourage you to contact Dan Hunziker of Hunziker & Assoc. Realtors. They handled the purchase and subsequent sale of our Ames home.
