Nasty water in the water park!

Avoid the waterpark, the water is so out of balance my kids eyes were burning and it burned when they urinated and it burned when my wife urinated too. Water is not supposed to be cloudy and reek of chloramines!!

Destination Des Moines!
Jul 2021 • Family
Our family was looking for a quick out of town trip before going back to school. We decided on Adventureland. Our girls are 15, 12, and 5. I have to say there is something for everyone to do. There are some fun and daring coasters and a ton of kiddie rides. The only downfall is that the park is only open until 6:00 during the week. There were also several rides, concessions, and shops not open. I believe this had to do with the fact they are incredibly understaffed as are many businesses right now. On a side note they are hiring. The park was clean and well kept. It wasn’t crowded and there were fairly short lines for most of the rides. My only complaint was they were completely out of the refillable souvenir cups which can save you a lot of money on drinks in a hot day.

We had a fun filled day!
Jul 2021 • Family
Let me begin I did not have the highest expectations for this park. Our family planned on going here for months, so we did not reschedule after we heard news of the tragic accident that happened a few weeks before.
This was the first trip our family has taken since the COVID-19 shut down. In general, “peopling” has been difficult for me and I need to take it in small doses.
I wanted to put that disclaimer out there before I write my opinionated review. :)
Overall, we all had a fun time at Adventureland and Adventure Bay. I would not want to go only for the amusement park. The water park is definitely the perk. We planned for two days and felt we were able to get everything in and didn’t miss out on anything.
Tips and Tricks:
Check the hours of the park on the day you’re going, they change depending on the day.
The whole area is very s p r e a d o u t. Prepare to walk across hot cement to get to anywhere. (I met my step goal really quickly!)
Decide where you want to set up your area— lots of chairs are all over, but get “saved quickly.”
I would NOT set up by the lockers at the water bucket/splash place. It smells sewer-y.
The lifeguards are really young. They aren’t incompetent, just not really strict either.
Adults: there is alcohol served at the park! :) There are two swim up bars by the “not so lazy” river and swimming pool/pirate ship behind the wave pool.
Straws cost $1
Food by the wave pool is better than by the splash pad.
There aren’t tubes to use for free for the lazy river or wave pool. You must rent them. You can use tubes for the slides for free. They stay with the slides.
The Underground doesn’t have a point. It’s creepy and weird.
The Phoenix is a fun coaster.
Make sure you have a chiropractor appointment scheduled after you ride the Outlaw.
Parking looks worse than what it is. It’s 15$ to park.

Park employee’s have no consideration for people who have medical conditions!

I went to the park on July 17th ! Was having a great time ! Until I went on Saw Mill Splash! I understand that are bags that we carry around with us at the park! Are our responsibility. But I told The ride operator can I leave my bag behind due to the fact that I had an EpiPen and I could not get it wet. He said to me in a very stern voice prove to me that you have it in your purse! I should not have to prove that I have a allergic reactions and that I have to carry around this pen ! A $300 pen in my purse and I Felt like I was being treated like a criminal! Had no consideration that the pen saves my life if I have a allergic reaction!Got off the ride went to go talk to one of the ride directors I said to him can something be done about this? How rude he was to me how I had to show him proof! The ride director laughed it off! So then I went to go talk to another ride Director. He stated that maybe I should keep it in a locker! OK so they want me to keep it in a locker so if I’m walking down the park and I have an allergic reaction I have to run all the way to locker to get my EpiPen! I would die immediately if I did not have that pen on me! Poor excuse is Adventureland! Will never return to this park again! They should have more consideration for people that need to use these pens!

Kid friendly theme park
Jul 2021 • Family
Great experience for our family of 4. Lots of rides and activities for very young children, as well as some for teens/adults as well. Food options are typical theme park food. It would be nice if there was healthier food options for parents. Wait times were reasonable for a busy Saturday. I went here as a kid and wanted to give my children the experience as well. It was a pretty good experience for the price.

Adventureland July 2021
Jul 2021 • Family
My family and I visited Adventureland on July 9th, 2021. The 4 of us had a terrific time. My 8 year loved that she could do the kiddie rides and the big rides and took advantage of the opportunity.
We stayed at the campground. It was clean and the staff curtious. Great rates for full hookup and a trolly you could ride to and from the front gate of the park.
Adventureland was clean and many of the older staff were training new employees. They were friendly. When severe weather hit they informed were to seek shelter. We went back to our R.V.
When the storm cleared we walked back to the park and had a great adventure. Rides with very little lines and employees trying to squeegy the water out of high travel areas. Adventureland in the rain in our opinion was a must! We had a blast.
We had lunch at the park and it was basic theme park food. Priced average.

Parking $15.00 is to much, closing the park at 6 PM is ridiculous on a warm summer evening. We get an icee and we ask for a straw so we can drink it and it’s a dollar for a straw and that’s after spending $5 on the drink. I think there were 4 rides closed, some of the food stands were also closed. It wasn’t as clean as it usually is. Paying 50.00 to get in is to much for what you get. Waterloo is not far away and you will begin to lose business if the park doesn’t improve. We use to stay at the Adventureland Inn but discontinued that several years back because of the increased prices and decline in the motel.

Worst Park In The Country
Jun 2021
I was on a road trip hitting all the parks across the country and this has to be the worse park I have ever been to. First of all, the staff are very rude. Even at the bars, they seem to not serve people from out of state. The operators of the rides seem to be more focused on distractions then guests. If you go to a good stall, most of the staff will act like you ruined their day if you ordered something. The park is also not clean when it comes to paths and can get some very rough crowds later in the day. I Had gotten food in the Adventureland inn and for the price, it is horrible and good luck tracking down your waiter or waitress. If you don’t want to be sleeping in a pond by morning, do not get a tent site at the Adventureland campground. The tent area is only an open field with very little shade and horrible drainage. Unfortunately this park is leagues behind other parks in every category. Hopefully they up their safety standards, their staff, as well as their property in the future otherwise I can’t see why anyone wouldn’t go to worlds of fun instead.

i have taken my grandchildren every year for 16 years. This year the park closed at 6pm (we always stayed till 9pm) Several rides were closed? We have always gone to the circus and this year it was $3 a person. If you ordered a drink they charged $1 for a straw! The cost for parking has gone up by $5! I kept thinking GREED! For 13 years we stayed at Adventureland INN but stopped that 3 years ago due to the continuing high price and declining condition. I will look into a different amusement park in the future.

Please make customer service a priority!!

We took our 3 year old for her first visit to an amusement park. It was just what I remember growing up with, quite a few of the same rides and attractions and perfect for young kids. We were impressed with the circus which showcased some great talent for 3 dollars a person. The park seemed to be well maintained, clean, and had beautiful flowers/landscaping. However, what would make this park great would be a universal caring staff. I can imagine that working rides and being a life guard would be somewhat boring. Yet, many of the younger employees were not helpful or friendly. My husband waited at an empty swim up bar for over 10 minutes and the bartender never looked up from his personal cell phone to acknowledge him, so he left frustrated, without getting a beer. When we rented tubes at the water park, we were given wristbands with no explanation of what to do with them (You can return the tubes for partial refund). Some employees were great, personable and gave directions on rides while others said nothing and didn’t even look at us. The lack of care or concern for patrons among some of the younger generation is alarming and dangerous. This park could be so much better if somehow there was a way to create work ethic or value. I can imagine it isn’t easy to fill so many positions these days, but I’d hope that after being open for so long Adventureland would have it together.
