The Lake is beautiful, there are trails around that are great hiking, some beautiful scenery. A nice place to relax and get away from the city. I understand fireworks over the lake are incredible on the 4th of July.

Hiking, enjoying the sounds and sights of an underused state park. The river and scenery are relaxing and colorful. Leaves are beautiful and they have many campsites.

My wife, 14 year old son and I stayed at the park for 1 day on a Saturday and then camped over night. The campsite was well maintained and very large. There was a fire ring with a grate and a picnick table, I think that's standard. We stayed at site 49. The bathroom was close by and clean. The... More

I thought the park was ok. Camping was an average camp site. You are right next to the person next to you and for us, that meant right next to a really large and loud group. The trails are good for a walk and day trip. Nothing to do or see that would take more than a few hours.

I have been our a few times to run the trails and they are great - challenging enough to get a good workout but also short enough that you don't have to worry about getting lost! Great little place to get away from it all!

Love this state park. Very near to Chicago area and is a perfect place to do a day trip with friends and family. We go to this park every year to welcome summer. The river route, tower, prime rose trails are our favorites.

This is a good park. Not too big or too small. There are four small hiking paths that are just right for the young or old. There are many great views from all the paths

My wife and I (both 30) hiked 3 different trails here. They were great short hikes on trails. Each one was rated differently from easy to difficult. In all honesty they were all pretty easy trails. If you are in moderate shape from taking daily walks you will be fine. The park was beautiful with the river and canyon. River... More

Apple River Canyon state park was all it was promised to be. Clean, nice car camping sites, clean bathrooms, drinking water. Trails well maintained and marked (actually could do a bit better on marking the trails I guess), beautiful vistas, good fishing for trout (though we only had bites they were there for the taking!). My 11 year old son... More

We went on a nice late September Sunday afternoon and really enjoyed the peaceful, woodsy trails. However, we took one trail (Primrose) that left us with the choice of either turning back (retrace steps) near the end or cross the river at a shallow point, but without enough river rocks poking out to avoid plunging feet in. There was also... More
