Great trail that was only about one mile. Had a nice mix of terrain. There are also opportunities to swim along the way. One thing I did not know is this trail is part of the Tantalus Trail way. I saw a picture of a map while on the trail and it looks like it connects to other trail networks like Nona falls. We did not plan for a longer hike so did not get to try it out. I’ve included pictures in what I upload.

This ~1 mile roundtrip has almost no elevation change. You hike over a creek (simply step on the large rocks), through a lush bamboo forest, and then you are greeted by a swimming hole. Unfortunately, there is housing near the hole, so that somewhat disrupts the view. The bamboo forest can be somewhat difficult to navigate at times due to several manmade trails, but most lead toward the swimming hole. There are connecting trails that can take you as far back as Manoa Falls.

We had kids ages 8-11 on the trail today, while it was super wet and muddy the trail was easy enough for them to maneuver and the scenery was beautiful! I highly recommend wearing water shoes that can get wet as you need to hike across the creek at the beginning of the trail and also because you’re sure to get muddy as you hike if the ground is at all wet (and bring extra shoes to change into before you drive home). The swimming hole at the end was a sweet reward for the easy hike through the forest. There is a natural rock waterslide into the pool and a few cliffs that we jumped from as well. Everyone had a blast!

We went with friends & our young kids. The stream is a little difficult to cross if you are in shoes & socks - but as we were crossing I watched a young mother with infant twins cross it with no problem. One twin was strapped to her front & one to her back. Our little wore flip flops on this hike for the first half, then got mired down in the mud so they went barefoot while hiking down to the Ginger Pool. One tip: you won't find the pool & small falls by staying on the hiking trail. After you cross the stream, go right if you want to see the Jackass Ginger pool. When the trail signs point up - stay close to the stream, climbing over a few rocks & you will be led directly to the swimming hole. The bamboo forests are so cool! Use a bamboo stick as a walking aid around the mud. :)
The Ironwood trees are awesome, too. Very easy hike with little ones - I suggest bringing water shoes to wear - the rocks around the swimming hole are very slippery and I didn't like being barefooted much!

This was a really good hike. It goes through a very beautiful bamboo forest, however the trail it's sometimes hard to find. It gets a little slippery in some places and the mosquitoes are not that bad at midday. If it hasn't rain in a few days it makes a big difference. The parking on the side of the road looks a little dangerous so clean your car before you go and don't leave anything in it.

While in Honolulu, stop at the Nuuanu Memorial Park (entrance on the east side of northbound Nuuanu St, between Judd St. and Robinson Lane). Drive to the very end of the road, park (lock your car!), and walk a short trail to an ancient sacred pool used by Hawaiian chiefs. An episode of "Lost" was filmed here. Petroglyphs are protected by an iron grate, but there are still some idiots who feel compelled to scratch their initials in the surrounding rocks. Bug repellent highly recommended. Mostly an easy, flat trail with some rocks to climb over. Admire some of the interesting monuments in the cemetery, including some large pagodas. Please be respectful.

Difficult terrain when walking the trail along the water. Lots of mud and tree roots. Pool is not very deep. Be careful.

Found the trail head easily. really pretty area. fun to walk through the river to start the real trail to get to the watering hole at Jacka** Ginger Pond where folks can jump off into the pool below and slide down natural slides. Water was cool but pleasant. We lost our way going back and landed on another, harder hike, but it sure was pretty. Tall trees, lots of tree types. nice breezes. our friends' car got broken into and had their backpacks stolen. Not a good way to end our wonderful week long vacation.

Judd Trail provides a short escape from the towering buildings of Honolulu. You can expect to see natural flora and even a small bamboo forest. The one down side is that if you have good hearing you can still hear the sound of loud cars far off in the distance.
This trail is easy enough to get to via the bus. You just take the route 4 (Dowset Avenue via UH Manoa) until you get to Nuuanu Pali Dr + Kimo Dr and then you walk along Nuuanu Pali Drive for less than a mile and you will come up on the trail entrance on your right. The start of the trial goes for a short distance until you come across a stream. You actually walk across the stream. Don’t be tempted by what looks like a path along the stream. It’s a dead end.
Once you cross the stream you can go right or left. It’s a fairly straightforward trail, and if you manage to accidentally go off on a side path just back track and little and you’ll find the actual trail again. Parts of the trail do have a mild incline, but nothing too steep. The trail can be incredibly muddy and sometimes slippery at certain points so be sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes.
The trail circles back to its start, but if you want a bigger challenge you can connect to Nuuanu Trail at the back end of Judd Trail.

This trail was very fun! My kids (ages 8, 13, 16), husband and I all enjoyed it. However, bring shoes with good tread or hiking boots highly recommended. At the beginning, there is a stream to cross, you will soak your shoes and part of your shorts. Much of the trail is muddy and slippery. Our family is athletic but had many slips. I wouldn't recommend it for kids younger than 6 or for someone interested in a leisurely hike.
We continued on the Nu'unau trail for a few hours and enjoyed the beautiful views at the top. We found the trail to be well marked and some helpful ropes in place to get across a few tricky areas.
We left there with a great workout, great views, great hiking fix, but wet and muddy! Rinsing off in the stream helps...

I went there today and the road to get there both side were closed. Anyone knows why or when will it be open again?
