The Nuuanu Pali State Wayside is a lookout above the Pali Highway tunnels...

The Nuuanu Pali State Wayside is a lookout above the Pali Highway tunnels where you’re treated to a panoramic view of Oahu's Windward side with sweeping views of Kaneohe, Kaneohe Bay and Kailua. It’s also well known for strong tradewinds, forming a natural wind tunnel of sorts. It was here in 1795 that Kamehameha The Great conquered the island of Oahu in one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history. Led by Kalanikupule, the defenders of Oahu were driven back up into the valley where they were trapped above the cliff. More than 400 of Kalanikupule's soldiers were driven off the edge of the cliff to their deaths 1,000 feet below.

As you are traveling around the Island, the Nuuanu Pali Lookout is a delightful spot to take a break and enjoy an expansive view of the mountains, forests, and coastline on the windward side of the island. There is a parking fee unless you arrive after five PM. We stopped late in the day and pretty much had the place... More

Its a short drive from Honolulu but well worth the drive.. The views are amazing. There is plenty of parking (paid honor system). No restrooms.

Great place to look out at marshes and forests, mountains and ocean. Haneohe spreads out below and there are very helpful signs to identify everything you are looking at

Short drive off the Pali highway, and a cheap $3 cost to park (9-5P). Be careful with thieves who may want to break into your car. The blue hour views just before sunset are gorgeous, but note that you will not actually see the sun setting as the mountains behind you get in the way. You will often find tons... More

Stopped here on the way back from North Shore. It was so windy it made it difficult to take pictures much less to stay long. Definitely go when it is not windy in order to take in the full views. Story has it this was once the site of mass suicide amor a people refusing to become slaves. We made... More

What a beautiful site! This was a stopping point in our tour and it didn't fail to wow everyone. You only need a few minutes because there's just a stone wall from which you can take photos and look out.

Beautiful views of the other side of Oahu. Great place to take pictures and just take in the beauty of the island. It is a bit windy, but it's not horrible. There is plenty parking, but you have to pay $3 (cash or card) and put your ticket on the dash.
