The Nuuanu Pali State Wayside is a lookout above the Pali Highway tunnels where you’re treated to a panoramic view of Oahu's Windward side with sweeping views of Kaneohe, Kaneohe Bay and Kailua. It’s also well known for strong tradewinds, forming a natural wind tunnel of sorts. It was here in 1795 that Kamehameha The Great conquered the island of Oahu in one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history. Led by Kalanikupule, the defenders of Oahu were driven back up into the valley where they were trapped above the cliff. More than 400 of Kalanikupule's soldiers were driven off the edge of the cliff to their deaths 1,000 feet below.

The view is great, but beware of wind. We were almost knocked over, and there were signs warning about bees in high wind so I guess it´s often windy. You do get to see a lot of the east side of Oahu - both ocean, mountains and flat landscape. Parking i $ 3 - pay at the machine.

We were passing by the Pali lookout on our way to Laie. We parked the car and found there was a parking meter for the lot with an attendant standing there to ensure a ticket was purchased. She did not make people in the handicap stalls pay. It's a short walk to feel the wind and see the views. We... More

Didn't get to climb any of the peaks, but to admire was more than enough to be grateful for. Really enjoyed some beautiful views just by an exploratory drive.

This is a beautiful lookout, the views are spectacular. I made the trip here to catch the sunrise as it had been voted one of the best places to watch the sunrise on the island, don't bother. The angle of the sun means from the lookout you cannot see it at all (at least in August anyway) and there are... More

When you go to Oahu, this is one of those gems that people don't talk enough about. When you arrive, Esther by bus or your own car, you park your vehicle and then walk down to the lookout. Once you reach a certain point, you will feel the still sultry air. Then, one step forward and you will feel the... More

If you've got some extra time the lookout is worth it if for no other reason than the great views. Amazing lush mountains and views to much of the island.

Interesting reading and beautiful views of the Kaneohe/Kailua area. There is a large lookout area, and parking for $3.

從WAIKIKI開車不到半小時,這裡風大但是涼爽,視野極佳,可眺望夏威夷沿岸地標的好地方,加上有Battle of Nuuanu-Uniting the island 的歷史故事,而且有停車場,值得推薦的好地方。

The Nuʻuanu Pali State Wayside is a lookout above the tunnels where there is a panoramic view of the Oʻahu's windward side with views of Kāneʻohe, Kāneʻohe Bay, and Kailua. This is a must see! The strong winds make it difficult to stand or walk, so be prepared to hang on. The incredible views are breathtaking and you'll want to... More

If you can find this hard to see exit off the highway, its worth 20-30 minutes of your time to drive up to this overlook. Panoramic views of the entire southeast coast. A small fee for parking during daylight hours.
