The Nuuanu Pali State Wayside is a lookout above the Pali Highway tunnels where you’re treated to a panoramic view of Oahu's Windward side with sweeping views of Kaneohe, Kaneohe Bay and Kailua. It’s also well known for strong tradewinds, forming a natural wind tunnel of sorts. It was here in 1795 that Kamehameha The Great conquered the island of Oahu in one of the bloodiest battles in Hawaiian history. Led by Kalanikupule, the defenders of Oahu were driven back up into the valley where they were trapped above the cliff. More than 400 of Kalanikupule's soldiers were driven off the edge of the cliff to their deaths 1,000 feet below.

The views from the Pali are breathtaking! This overlook is where you can see the windward side of the island, and WINDY it is! The Pali is the site of a bloody battle where Kamehameha I conquered Oahu. The drive up is easy and beautiful as well. The trip is well worth the drive.

Seems like you can see forever from up there! Great view! It also had some of the strongest wind I've ever felt.

Pali Lokout is a must. It has some elevation ad the lookout is in a notch in the mountains so it is very windy, all the time. I advise against wearing dresses, skirts, kilts, and lava-lavas, as the wind will blow them up. You can drive up to it, or take a tour bus, and there may even be a... More

Stopped by here on our drive to the north shore. Have to pay a nominal parking fee. Beautiful views of the windward side of Oahu. Very windy at the overlook.

Even on an overcast day, the views are still beautiful. There is a fee for parking and the it is very windy, but the views are worth it!

Drive up to the Pali Lookout, pay $3 for parking, take a short walk to reach the lookout and promptly lose your hat! Turn around and chase your hat. Give up and enjoy the view...

The views at the Pali lookout are simply breathtaking. There isn't much parking and the buses show up with lots of people. There were 2 levels to take photos from. I had to use the lower level because there were so many people at the top next to the rail. Although there were lots of people I still recommend stopping... More

Stopped here by circle island bus tour. It was a very windy day up here. The views are spectacular. History is all around you. Plus there are chickens to take pictures off if your so inclined.

Nu'uanu Pali Lookout is worth a visit. The view is amazing, the wind is strong and the cooler temperatures feel great. We went to the park twice during our stay in Oah'u and the park was never busy. One day we saw a parking attendant, another day we did not. There are signs warning of car break-ins and theft as... More
