One of the lovely beaches of Waikiki
Mar 2020
Duke Kahanamoku Beach forms part of the famous Waikiki Beach.

It is located at the front of the Hilton Hawaiian Village and the Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon. The beach is named after Duke Paoa Kahanamoku (1890-1968), who is anicon and a respected Hawaiian surfer.

Its a beautiful beach, lovely white sand and a great spot in the afternoons to watch the sunset.

Perfect for early morning walk before the crowd gets in. Just immerse yourself with the beauty of nature.

Absolutely visit, but be perepared for the expense and the crowds
Sep 2019
The famous Waikiki Beach has several sections of beaches, each with different names. And, Duke Kahanamoku Beach is one part of the long Waikiki Beach. So the review is generally about Waikiki.

No question Waikiki will be visited by everyone who visits Honolulu. And, it is indeed a place worth visiting to appreciate the essence of Honolulu. But, unless one is staying close to the beach, it is not a convenient place to visit by driving due to the unavailability of convenient parking or reasonably priced parking. Street parking near the beach is limited, if at all available, and parking in the garages could involve substantial walking to get to the beach.

But the beach area is wonderful, and the sunsets are beautiful, if it is not too cloudy. The free Hula Hawaiian Cultural music show (near Kuhio Beach, which is part of Waikiki) is worth attending. Check website for day and timings.

Beautiful setting!
Oct 2019
We came here to see where they film Hawaii 5-0 being huge fans as they film here for the shrimp truck shots. There is a food truck there but it is called Gilligan's Shack. It is a beautiful setting with a good selection of shade and we would visit again.

Pleasant, lots of families with kids, conveniently located
Aug 2019
All in all a very nice, broad beach. The views and the water are great. Like at Waikiki Beach (aka the Royal Moana Beach) the sand at this beach is somewhat coarse to the touch, but nothing too sharp or rocky. Also similar to Waikiki Beach, this is a popular beach. Expect to share it many other visitors, including families with children.

Adjacent to Hilton Village lagoon. There's access to a boardwalk that connects to other beaches of Waikiki and nearby hotels along the shoreline. Quite a few restaurants within walking distance.

I tend to prefer beaches that have softer sand and less crowded. However, this beach is great for what it is.

Nice Beach Near Open Park and Boardwalk
Sep 2019 • Friends
After just arriving to Hawaii and before and after eating dinner at the nearby Tropics Bar & Grill attached to the Hilton, my friend and I walked along the beach and boardwalk of Duke Kahanamoku Beach. My friend and I took a Lyft to this location so I am unsure about parking. There is a lot of room to sit on the beach, unlike the limited space on Waikiki beach, and it is not nearly as busy. The sand is slightly grainier than other beaches I have visited. There is a nice boardwalk, and behind it a small park to walk through as well. As mentioned, within short walking distances, right on the beach, there are restaurants, places to get a drink, and hotels (of course). It also appears it is a great place to watch the sunset. (Note- the signs state the the park is closed to the public from 2 am until 5am.). I like this beach much better than Waikiki beach there is more room and less people! Would recommend for those who aren’t a huge fan of bumping into people on the beach!

Beautiful Beach!
Aug 2019
Beautiful beach sitting in front of the Hilton Hotel and the lagoon. Free fireworks on Fridays so they close this beach for safety on Friday afternoons.

Beach north of Waikiki
Jun 2019
Pretty nice sandy beach, there is also a lagoon that is nice for kids nearby. There are some sharp rocks on the north end of the beach under the waves, but otherwise pretty sandy all around. Semi-protected area to swim. Clear water. Medium fine sand. A pretty popular beach but easy to find a spot to sit. Good for kids, but no lifeguard that I could see. Lots of restaurants and bars nearby, this is near several resorts.
