We stayed at the now closed Makena beach resort and had this beach to use every day. Gorgeous and less people than the beaches closer to all the resorts up north. Best corral reef i have been able to snorkel as well. Tons of fish, turtles, rays and reef sharks. Loved it there and wish the resort itself didnt close... More

If you are in the Wailea, area, make sure you go to the end of the road and visit this outstanding state park/beach. It is uncrowded and it is free. The beach is pure white sand but be forewarned, the undertow and waves are quite strong. I highly recommend visiting this beach.

Visited this beach on March 3, 2017. Loved how big the beach was, and best of all loved the snorkelling. Saw tons of fish, and even a sea turtle. The water was really clear the day we were here.

This is a beautiful beach with great views of Molikini and Lanai on clear days. The beach has good swimming for most levels close to shore. The area immediately in front of Makena Surf can get some bigger waves given the pitch of the shore, so little kids do need to be a little careful there. The snorkeling here is... More

Best beach we have seen on the islands. It's a state park, so no vending available. Beach was wide and clean. Wasn't overly busy when we were there. Surf was a bit aggressive, so need to keep an eye on the smaller kids. Bring what you will need, but a great beach to visit.

Not for novice swimmers, Makena is pretty rough with big waves. But it is so beautiful, gorgeous crystalline sand and amazing views of land and coast. Lifeguard onsite, didn't see bathrooms other than a couple port-a-potties and no showers. I got stung on land by something here pretty bad, numbness and insane pain/swelling. Lifeguard took care of me with an... More

I saw a sea turtle while snorkeling! It was a beautiful and non-crowded beach. There were some construction sounds, but it was so nice, it didn't matter too much.
