Puu Pehe, also referred to by locals as The Sweetheart Rock, is one of Lanai's most iconic landmarks. ... The story of Puu Pehe is a tragic one. According to Legend, a young Hawaiian warrior from Lanai captured a beautiful princess from the island of Maui, whom he would marry.

My hike to the cliff of Pu"u Pehe was the highlight of my trip to Lanai. As you approach the island, this cliff and boulder are a curious and very cool sight. Once that you are on Hulopoe beach, it is only a twenty minute walk to the top. There is a cliff ten minutes in that you should check out for ocean views. It is an easy hike, but still respect your surroundings and avoid the loose rocks near the cliff path. Once on top the views are AWESOME! You can see the monument that was built by some crazy islanders who climbed the boulder. Unbelievable and worth the hike.…

Easy hike up. (can do in flip flops, but sturdier shoes highly suggested) Great views await you. If you're lucky you can spot the spinner dolphins playing or some whales passing by. (we saw both) If not you'll still be able to see some beautiful crystal blue water. (bring your polarized lenses) Great spot for photos and selfies.…
