Played the Experience at 8:30am after taking the 6:30 ferry from Lahaina. Matched with two guys who knew how to play, hit the ball a mile, and were impressive to watch all morning. Finished the round in 3.5hrs - always a pleasure to encounter solid pace of play. Although the sun was shining at the ferry landing, it was overcast when we made it up to the course - at about 2000 feet up. Finished the first 5-6 holes under cloudy skies, then the clouds came down to earth. We played in the clouds for the rest of morning - which made for a hugely awesome Experience for me. Sometimes we could make out the hole ahead from the tee, sometimes we drove ahead to get an idea of what was coming. On several tee shots, we could track the ball just 20-30 yards before it disappeared into the clouds. Although these are not the kind of conditions I would enjoy/choose as a regular thing, they added some unique challenges to an excellent course.

Course was in terrific shape from the tees through the greens. Course staff were friendly, attentive and gracious - like they appreciated me being there. Except for a couple of adjoining fairways on the back nine, most holes feel carved out of the wilderness. There is a four par with a true island green, a lot of natural water (ponds and creeks) in play considering the elevation of the course, and several holes with dramatic elevation changes. Water features on the 17th and 18th were under repair - and dry. I really enjoyed this course. It has it's own feel, style and play, but clearly belongs in the same grouping as the three top 100 courses on Maui and Lana'i - The Challenge, Kapalua Plantation and Wailea Gold.

The hotel is temporarily closed and the course is being "renovated". Being a property owner on the island I hope they open again soon, however it's been a couple of years.
The course is amazing as is the setting in Lanai city! 🌲

I've read the other reviews and most of the comments are correct. Before this recent renovation, the course needed some TLC. No water in the ponds, some of the fairways not in great shape, Tee boxes not up to par, etc. But, you cannot get this kind of experience any where else in Hawaii. The views are spectacular. There is virtually no one on the golf course. Wild Turkeys running the fairways. This is truly a piece of land that is a gift for a golf course. My 5 year old son and I played 6 days straight in the afternoons with no hassles. No golf traffic. No worries or cart girls running around. It is exactly what we were looking for. Peace and quiet. Try and get this type of atmosphere on any other Hawaii golf course - it does not exist. If you play golf, this is as close to heaven you can get to without being dead!

Very nice Greg Norman layout, but it's currently not in good shape due to the lack of rain. The back nine is in really bad condition. It's the same price as Manele. Play Manele until they get it back in good condition.

I played at Koele several years ago and it was a spectacular golf course...totally unique. Due to water problems, the course is a mere shadow of its former self. It will be closed at the end of the year and I can only hope they can rescue it...

Play 2 rounds at the Challenge if you are looking to play 36. The Experience is in poor condition right now. The Greens were good but the course is in need of some TLC. Go play the Challenge and don't waste your time on the bus ride up the hill.

Very sorry to say, stay away. Only the tee boxes and greens are being maintained properly. The fairways are mostly brown, bare of grass in many places, and covered with wild turkey and deer droppings. Gross. The rough is covered with fallen branches and debris from the trees. Not at all worth the $ 260 price for 2 resort guests.

Played it yesterday with my wife, incredible course, played it in the am, friendly staff, more water than I expected on the island, the 17th hole is the best, hit it straight and watch it go. Easier than the Challenge course, but what a great golf day
Laying both.

The Experience at Koele is really an experience not to miss! This championship course is unlike any other in Hawaii, set 2,000 feet above sea level and surrounded by lush valleys, eucalyptus trees and dramatic ravines - it's absolutely breathtaking. The signature hole, #17, plays from a 200 foot elevation from tee to green and is definitely one of the most challenging holes I've ever played! The course really takes off on the back nine! The well manicured course, friendly staff and unique surroundings made the day worthwhile. Plus it was nice to play in such a different setting in Hawaii - gave me a chance to cool off from the warm, beachside setting of Manele Bay.
