While on our vacation in Kauai, we met some family friends at Hanalei Bay Beach. There is a very small free parking lot and we got lucky and arrived just as someone was leaving. It's a long stretch of beach that was very clean and the sand was powder soft. The water was unbelievably warm and clear. It was almost like being in a heated pool. The beach was not overly crowded. The waves oscillated between gentle and strong. The kids (two 6 year olds and a 9 year old) really enjoyed playing in the water. There were lifeguards on duty who were advising people, myself included, to be careful of the undertow. There were showers and bathrooms. The unique part of this beach is the pier that you can walk out on. From there you will get a great view of the beach and bay. Words and pictures cannot fully convey how beautiful this beach is. If there is one beach that you go to while in Kauai I would highly recommend this beach.

Really nice big beach on both side of the pier. We went here 2 evenings for sunset day an early morning to see the morning light on the mountains which was beautiful. Great family beach. Nice place for people of all ages can enjoy. Bathroom and outdoor showers. Lots of parking.

I've been to north shore Kauai a couple of times before, but this was my first time visiting in the winter. It was fun watching the surfers on the big waves. My husband and I spent a day on the beach, and were able to boogie board on the pier side of the bay. It was so much fun, and I couldn't believe how warm the water was in winter. Only surfers were allowed into the large wave areas due to riptides, but there was still good swimming and boarding for everyone else on the river side.

Kauai is billed as the quieter of the islands but really, you only experience that on the North Shore. The south is more touristy and frankly, not as pretty. Hanalei bay is protected from large buses by a skinny bridge over the river and that's the way locals prefer it.
The setting for a few scenes in ''The Descendants, Hanalei bay town is quaint, relaxing and fully stocked hamlet with a mountain backdrop to die for.
We stayed in Princeville, up the hill, which while the accommodation is first rate (not the Resort...didnt stay there) you miss out on the quiet beach exoerience of Hanalei. The drive from Hanalei west along the coast is just perfect.

I have seen Hanalei Bay by air and by land, and I still can't get enough of its beauty. I devoted two days to seeing Hanalei Bay, but that was not enough. I will make sure to schedule much more time to truly enjoy this magnificent site, as well as view more angles from the different roads, lookouts, and all parts of the beach and pier. Just beautiful!

A scenic, peaceful beach that was not crowded and had calm waters for swimming. The bay is very scenic with mountains around, and Hanalei pier. Parking was good if you get there early and Pat's Taqueria food truck was near the pier. Beach was never crowded while we were there in late Sept, quiet calm water was great for swimming. A definite relaxing veach day !

We took an air tour which is the best way to see Hanalei Bay (and see Puff) and also drove thru there. It was raining when we drove thru and the waves were really breaking, so the surfers were out big-time. The road is winding around thru there. We did not make it to the beach since it wasn't a beach day. Its pretty neat to see.

First let me start by saying that this trip to Kauai as the BEST one ever because there were so few tourist.
The north shore is very laid back even when plenty of tourist.
After leaving party time in Maui we were so happy to be here.
There is public parking. Take any right turn after town ( going west) to the inner street and drive east west until you see the lot
In addition to the beach the town is wonderful. Lots of little shops ( most closed for covid and lack of tourist) and restaurants...most open with social dining distance.
Hanalei was close to us so we are there a lot. The bridge was "out" a few times due to much rainfall.

We had heard that this was one of the most beautiful settings on Kauai so we made the drive from Poipu area; some amazing scenery along the way. The bay is really magnificent: sea, sand, and mountains!
The surf is the most magnificent I have ever seen; the roar of the waves is amazing. Lots of surfers--not really great for swimming, too rough.
There are bathroom facilities and lifeguards so it would be a good place to spend the day. BTW, lots of locals there. We saw families picnicking and birthday parties too.

Long, firm sanded beach with Pavilion at front parking lot with men & womens bathrooms. Great expanse of beach, boogey boarding/ body surfing waves on some days. We brought our small travel umbrellas for those occasional brief sprinkles. Pick up lunch at Taco trucks near Tahiti Nui restaurant to bring with you!
