Tunnels is basically at the end of road when it comes to driving the north side of Kauai. Which makes it less trafficked than Hanalei or Princeville. It's a cool place to relax and walk around, the surf can get intense here so be careful.

At the end of the road on the north end of Kauai, is Tunnels beach which is beautiful in itself, but what is even more impressive are the lava tubes "tunnels" the beach is named for. I am a gelogist and these are the largest lava tubes, I have ever seen anywhere in the world. Impressive to say the least.

This is a beach on Kauai you should go to just to see the majestic waves and views. It has dry cave across from it that you can explore. The locals really like this beach so, get there early especially, on a sunny day.

We were staying in Poipu and after going to Lihue for a helicopter tour, we thought we'd drive to the north shore to see Tunnels Beach, which I had read had some of the best snorkelling on the island. Well, not on February 8, 2017. The waves were crashing onto the shore with serious force (the red flag was definitely... More

This is an unspoiled beach; hard to find; a hidden gem!. Beautiful, crescent shaped sandy beach fringes a stunning mountain backdrop. There is incredible snorkeling when the ocean conditions allow. The downside---minimal parking, hard to find and no restrooms. Lots to see nearby (Ke'e beach, Haena beach, Kalalau trail, etc.

This is a long, beautiful beach with good snorkeling and stunning views of the NaPali cliffs. There are signs warning people that the currents here are strong, so use caution. Monk seals were sleeping on the sand one day when we were here.

You have to walk down to the area sheltered from the waves by the off shore reef and there is still significant currents but the snorkeling is awesome! Navigating in and around the close to shore reefs and eventually out to the drop off and the back edge of the shoreline reefs offers up views of many different reef fish,... More

Absolutely beautiful, so natural and unspoilt, soft golden sand with a gorgeous backdrop of the start of the Napali coast. Despite the warnings against swimming and the strong rip currents (and there definitely are so do be careful) there is an area of water which is pretty sheltered from this and was even ok for our little 4 year old... Reviews say this is an amazing place for snorkeling but the ocean conditions dictate here. Currents were too strong for it today. I can see why it would be marvelous. It is beautiful even for beach combing. We came across a few tiny treasures. Closer to the cave, there are lifeguards.

Although it is winter which means the surf is way too rough to snorkel, we were able to see a cute monk seal on the beach! There are also beautiful views and picture opportunities.
