Long flat trail on the levee tow path is perfect for long walks, runs, etc. Much of area is shaded and you have the river on one side and the canal on the other. There is a kayaking company offering rentals and pickups at Lake Olmstead. There is also a bicycle rental company. The rates seem very reasonable.

We came here to see more of the Savannah River but didn't realize that there was SO much history here. We walked and took pictures and talked - saw lots of Poke people walking by us which we thought was funny. It's a beautiful area - I loved seeing the locks on the fence across the dam and all of... The place has really been built up nicely. Just for a walk along the canal or for an afternoon of fishing, it can't be beat.

Hot and steamy day but still a good walk, biking an option also. Plenty of people, playground equipment and room for children to let off energy. Beautiful view of the dam and rental kayaks right down the road.

Our family come here every Sunday, running down the canal. For people living in Augusta, this is one of the only places we can go for weekends

This is a beautiful place to walk and had many hidden paths and stairs for the more adventurous person as well. I suggest bringing lots of water because it gets very hot here!

This visitor center marks the beginning of a canal walkway that is absolutely beautiful. Also, besides walking, there are many other attractions, especially kayaking and bicycling. And, this area of August is chocked full of history. Great place to walk, run, or just visit.
