A "pleasant interior" :)
Jan 2020
Not much is there to see inside this church, but there's just somehow an "atmosphere of pleasantness" likely due to its good floor layout for kind of a spacious walk around it (although not a particularly big interior) and also yes in part due to some lovely shrines featuring colorful sculptures & such. But actually more than the church itself, I would say that the "better parts" of the visit here are to the plaza right outside (a "fairly spacious" one with also some interesting outdoor display of a pair of statues one of which a sword-wielding angel standing over that of an evil-doer or such) and also to the indoor market along one side of the plaza (a great place for just all varieties of souvenir of Honduras from "quite a number" of small shops inside). Located at like the "downtown core" of the city (an area with narrow streets some of which not for vehicles but just for pedestrians lined with shops on both sides), just within a 5-minute walk from this church by first heading out across the plaza to the intersecting street just a block away then to the left for a short walk is another "bigger plaza" which is Parque Central with the city's "main cathedral" Catedral de San Miguel on the far side of that plaza with also a number of trees providing shade right in front of the cathedral (with a beautiful facade of pillars & statues and a "golden beauty" of the main altar & some big shrines near the altar). And also just within a 5-minute walk from this church but in the "opposite direction" from going to the cathedral is the "long building" which is Palacio Nacional with a museum inside (one like a national museum which is kind of a combo one of "history & art" but with not very much of displays to see on its 2 levels).

The square and the church look very pretty and in general create a different image compared to the other parts of the "city center." However, as I was alone, I could not enjoy it or even come very close to it as in the square there also are hawkers and small shopping stalls. Being a market place, it attracted many beggars who just did not let me go through the square as they were grabbing me, DEMANDING money, etc. Though I would highly recommend to come and enjoy it with a group of friends or a guide or do not take a camera out or look unnoticeable at all. The church is VERY pretty!

Old historic church, nice plaza with little tchatchki shops abound. They build a tunnel under it for traffic and there is great (and gawdy) statue of an angel slaying the devil in the middle of it all!

The church itself is a beautiful colonial church. However, the plaza in front is in a ran down area and a more seedy part of town. I actually had a young man walk up behind me, snatch my earrings out of my ears and take off running! This happened in broad daylight and about one block off the plaza. So if planning to visit be extremly careful and aware of your surroundings. I would not say I will not return but next time I will be extemly cautious!

Stopped in here at 12:30 on Sunday afternoon and were told they were just closing. Got a quick peek before they closed the door. Best to time your visit before or after mass to ensure you can go inside.

Just a short walk from Parque Central. We took the public bus (11lps) from San Felipe Hospital (we were staying at the new Hyatt Place Hotel nearby) to Parque Central and walked around. Took the bus back without problems.

Was told by a local the plaza and surrounding area is generally safe during the daytime and is patrolled by police and military. We didn't feel at all unsafe during our visit to this part of Tegucigalpa.

Downtown Tegucigalpa has many beautiful and well preserved colonial churches and this one is one of the prettiest. Located in a plaza of the same name it is just a couple of blocks away from the Cathedral at central park and just off Paseo Liquidambar. Definitely worth a visit!

While touring downtown Tegucigalpa, La Tigra tours guide visited "Iglesia Dolores" with me. Thank God it was open and i got a chance to visit the inside. It is gorgeous. I enjoyed the images.

I used to come to this church when I was in High school and college. Every time I go to the downtown area I visit it.
