As part of our birding package with the Pico Bonito Lodge, we were taken there by guide Elmer Escoto. Awesome experience. We were able to get up close and personal with Boat-billed Herons, a juvenile Agami Heron, Sungrebes, crocodiles, and much more. The 9km ride...More

From the entrance to the Cuero y Salado wildlife refuge you will see it is a different and original site. A funky, old banana railroad will take you through a 30 minute ride into the heart of the refuge. once there, you can choose between...More

It is a fun trip, traveling on a tiny train then exploring by boat. You can see a lot of water birds, caiman, bats, monkeys and iguanas. If you ask to go to look for manatees you might see these mammals coming up to breathe.

We have visited this wildlife refuge twice. The train ride alone is worth the trip. Open air cars, and tracks that aren't exactly straight, but interesting. The train ride is about 40 minutes into the park where you can hire a guide to take you...More

The entire journey was great. Starting with the "train" trip to the refuge and ending with waiting with the 'train' trip back. The tour itself of the rivers was breathtaking. Gliding along in a small aluminum boat was so serene and peaceful. The guide was...More

The train (tren) ride is very interesting. It was built by the old American Fruit Co (Dole) for coconuts. Then you go to the visitor's center which has decent bathroom facilities. You then get in a boat driven by a refuge guide. The red mangroves...More
