Most folks probably don't visit this spot east of town which was an upper class residential area. It's included in the full price ticket. It's called Sepulturas or Cemetery because bones were found in or near the walls of buildings. But now they know that when Mayans died, they were just buried right near where they lived. There are ongoing... More

After I visited this area I could say that it really worth to visit it. Try to hire a local tour guide in order to get the proper explanation and tour around it.

A kilometer up from main ruins with entry fee included in main ruins fee. I got lucky and ran into a local guy who just started walking with me and became my guide. In Spanish. Never asked for money just took me around and explained everything and we walked through the different communal living sites. Showed me everything and explained... More

The Mayan history is very interesting and they let visitors walk around the current site where archeologists are working. I loved the early morning solitude and birding opportunity in this reserve. It says it is open from 0800 but it is open by 06:45 and the guard doesn't mind letting in visitors at that time. I saw several turquoise browed... More

This is a small outer site of the main Copán ruins. It's no way near as impressive but as it's included in the price it's worth a visit. You can't go direct from the main ruins - ignore the guide books and maps, that path is closed. Instead you walk down the main road 1.4km. Like the main ruins it... More

Visited here with a small tour group, so we had a guide. This is a cool site, just up the road from the main ruins at Copan, and well worth a visit. Here you can see how the elites and middle class occupants lived. Most were "good" scribes (those who kept the financial, administrative, religious, historical and astronomical records), or... More

This is a small site about a km away from the main group and is a must see. Everyone goes to the main site but Sepulturas is a residential site with beautiful sculptures. The path to the location is a nice walk and is paved with field stone. There is no additional fee. There are other guides there if you... More

This is a great little ruin area about a 1.5 k away from the main ruins. Set in a nice wooded area with a nice short trail that offers very good early morning birding.

This is an addition to the basic tour of the main ruins. Well worth the time, don't rush. Plan two days to see the areas ruins.

This place is included in your entrance to Copan Ruinas. We took a moto taxi to get here. I must admit that after spending many hours in the actual Copan Ruinas, this place was a let down. However, it is still a great place. There are two paths to choose from, one long path and other short path. We took... More
