Well we didn't take a guide so not sure how much we missed. I did find that from my eavesdropping in the sculpture museum that the guide was giving slightly more information than the signs. We had a book that described the different temples and stela so it wasn't so bad but if you can afford a guide why not.... More

loved it all.. nice to see the makaws as well.. took us a half day as ruins are not of great interest to us. However, an education to be had by all and a guide is the best way to see the site.

This is not a zoo like we had been told previously! The bird park (Macaw Mountain) is a bird refuge and breeding program. The owner Lloyd and his staff do an absolutely amazing job at rehabilitating these birds and getting them back into the wild. Unfortunately some birds will not survive in the wild and will stay at the park... More

I have been to several other Mayan ruins throughout Central America and Mexico. My favorite is Tikal, but Copan comes in second. There were very few people there when we visited. Our guide was vey animated and gave good info without going overboard. Don't miss the visitors center and museum. They are both worth a quick visit.

This was a lovely site, not as large as some in neighbouring countries but with more fine detail and preserved art than any other. Rehabilitated scarlet macaws fly free over head making for an unforgettable day. The site is easily reached on foot from town.

While I have been to more impressive ruins, I found the history of the Mayan culture absolutely fascinating. However without the guide I think I would have been disappointed Tip: our guide actually advised us against buying the tickets for the underground tunnels (which saved as $30) as he said they were only of interest for people who are into... What a beautiful place. Our tour guide had 27 years of experience there and knew everything about the ruins and the surrounding countryside. Great experience!

We had a wonderful tour guide and learned a lot about the Mayan people. The ruins were really a sight to see! Highly Recommended.

It is a very large area, so go prepared for a long walk and a lot, a lot of stairs. Place is awesome to look around, especially the biggest structures once on top. The only downside is that unless you rush through it you won't get to see everything in one visit. Our guide abandoned us after we had said... More

a great place. we didn't bother with the tunnels as they are apparently from the archaeological research, not the original Mayans. We walked easily from town in a matter of minutes. Gift shop ok but prices a little higher than the rest of the tow. Staff friendly. Ensure you drink water, wear a hat and sunscreen.
