Casa K'inich Museum
May 2019 • Family
Casa K'inich is open Wednesday through Saturday and it's suggested you call first if you have a large group (Manuel is sub director 2651 4105 is the Museum's onsite telephone number). It is located at Fuerte Cabañas which has a spectacular view of the town from the towers. Great for afternoon photos. At present (June 2019) there is some repairing of ceramic on the floors in the corridors but it shouldn't affect your visit; please note that the museum is closed for lunch from noon through 1:30.

Actually a pretty good and innovative kids museum
Jun 2018 • Friends
It is tri-lingual. English, Spanish, and Maya. All interactive displays teach you to say numbers, days of the week, months, etc. Very innovative low technology displays that are pretty cool. Nice view from up there as well.

Easter Week Casa K'inich Hours
Apr 2017 • Family
The Children's Museum is open during Easter week (and beyond) 9 to noon and 1:30 until 5 Tuesday through Saturday we are closed on Sunday and Monday. This is the hourly schedule followed unless there is a big event that takes over the Fuerte Cabanas which blocks our entrance and you can not get in. Casa K'inich Museo Escolar HAS NOT BEEN CLOSED for 7 months as was relayed by the watchman. Have your hotel call ahead if unsure the local number is 2651 4105 which is a direct number to the museum. We apologize for any inconvenience to visitors who came during recent primary elections they did have us closed in March for political activities. We do encourage groups to call ahead. Thank you for visiting us.

Call ahead
Mar 2017 • Family
They are no longer open at the listed in spite of having signs all over town. Had 2 very disappointed children. The guard says it's been at least 7 months that they open for large groups by appointment only.

Casa K'inich Museum and Fuerte Cabañas NOT JUST FOR KIDS!!!
Jul 2016 • Business
Casa K'inich is now open to the public and for school visits. The interactive learning museum about the Maya Civilization and is a place to start before the Archaeological Site to familiarize yourself with this incredible civilization faced. Some information on where it is housed; Casa K'inich is in its permanent location inside Fuerte Cabañas which was a military fort built in 1946 during the time of General Carias Andino and was named in honor of General Jose Trinidad Cabanas (9 June 1805-8 January 1871) who was a central American hero and served as president of Honduras for two separate terms: March to July 1852 and again December 1853 until June 1855. The facility was used for military exercises and to patrol the western borders of Honduras. Fuerte Cabañas lay in ruins for over 20 years and in 2006 it was rebuilt and inaugurated in 2008. The building houses Casa K’inich Children’s Museum and is a popular site for visitors who climb the towers to get a view of the valley of Copán. Its current day use is for cultural activities, expositions and wedding receptions.

More than expected
Our family just visited the museum today and were pleasantly surprised. Some of the interactive displays don't work and there are spelling mistakes in some of the descriptions, however the our kids didn't mind and were thoroughly entertained. Worth a visit with younger kids.

Lots to learn before visiting the Ruins! good but tired exhibits.
Dec 2014 • Family
Museum is in part of castle-type structure on top of a hill, you can get a good look at Copan from here. In front of the building, there is a shrine to an image of the virgin Mary that is said to have appeared after some burning took place, interesting tidbit. Exhibits are interesting, and you'd do go to go here before the ruins as you'll learn many things that would make sense once you are there. Sadly, many exhibits are broken, some floor tiles are loose and bulging, and the place is a bit dirty which makes it look sad. Kids will enjoy the hands-on parts. This is a short stop though, 1 hour at most, longer if you walk there and back. Or you could take a tuk tuk there and walk downhill, just beware of the cobblestones if you are walking after the rain, very slippery!

Looks Like a Castle
Apr 2014 • Solo
This building was quite unique, looked like a medieval castle from the outside, but did not have a moat. Had towers at each of the four corners and each had a ladder which allowed you to climb and get on top of each tower to look around and take pictures. The museum was closed when I was there so I cannot comment on it.

Small but nice
Feb 2014 • Family
exibits are hands-on for kids, if you have kids they'll enjoy it. They had hand cranks - spin them, hear animal sounds. Very touchy-feely.

Definitely bring your kids here!
Feb 2014 • Solo
I had to stop by here and have a look at the children Maya Museum. I can highly recommend bringing your children here, specially if they are interested in the Maya World. It is a very nicely done, interactive Museum.
