I’m the woman who never vacations in the same place twice, and I’m back to write a third review singing Bogdan’s praises.

I convinced my mom, who had a horrendous experience as a new diver in Cozumel, to brave a global pandemic to dive with me here, and my coup de grace in convincing her was the extraordinarily personalized attention and the utmost professionalism that Bogdan and his team brought to the curated experience. Unfortunately, I was unable to make the trip due to a personal issue, but I was able to experience the trip vicariously through the dozens of photos of my mom, beaming at the camera, before and after diving, on her way to late lunch, at Neptune Beach, and so much more, some of which Bogdan was kind enough to send me.

From helping us book flights to and from San Pedro to Utila and our accommodations on Jewel Cay, collecting her from Utila on a water taxi, and taking her to lunch on the first day to making sure her diving skills were up to par before her first dives, diligently pointing out and educating her on the various marine life in the Cays and handling all equipment preparation, cleaning and storage, Bogdan’s team went above and beyond to ensure her experience was an unforgettable one.

My daughter and I had a great experience with Bogdan while in Utila. His equipment was excellent and the service was very professional. The dives were great and Bogdan was an excellent "guide" under water. Bogdan and his team provide great customer service, from picking us up from our dock to helping arrange a ride to watch a football game. I would rate this dive experience as one of the best we have had and highly recommend Utila Cays Diving.

My family made our first trip to Utila in March and we couldn't be happier with the service we received from Utila Cays Diving. From our first communication to our last day on the island Bodgan and his staff were extremely helpful and most importantly made you feel welcome from the moment you arrived! The diving was fantastic, but what sets Utila Cays Diving apart is their knowledge to pick the right dive sites for the day, and their ability to adapt to the divers on board. For most of our trip it was only our family and one other diver, so the personalized service was unparalleled. The dive masters and boat captain are very personable and it was a pleasure getting to know them. Diving with Utila Cays Diving was the highlight of our trip. We look forward to diving with Utila Cays in the future!

We've been diving and training with UCD for multiple years and Bogdan and crew always find new activities and dive sites for us to explore. Dropping in on a sea mound was a highlight of this trip. Bogdan and Mike are knowledgeable and always safety minded. My entire family has become better more comfortable divers working with this crew.

I have now visited this scuba company twice because they value customer service, safety, the environment and small group experiences. I received one on one scuba training while my daughter watch on. I returned as a solo traveler to relish in the extraordinary reefs alongside divers. Bogdan supported me every step and every desire along the way. The captains and instructors are charming, respectable and care for all visitors’ safety and security so they are ensured an awesome time communing in the ocean and with precious oceanic life.

In October of 2019 I made my latest of many trips to Utila. My wife and I go back every other year. Sometimes we stay in town and sometimes we go to the cays to get away from it all. When we go to the cays we always dive with Utila Cays Diving. Bogdan the owner has turned into a family friend. Utila Cays Diving goes above and beyond giving you the dive experience you would like. They go to amazing dive sites not many other shops go to. The Cays is small laid back islands. This is a place you can really relax on vacation. The vibe is much different from Utila town, but don’t underestimate how peaceful getting away from it all can be.

I have just completed my vacation to Utila and we were renting Pineapple house. It was recommended to me to try Bogdan at Utila Cays Diving and this was a good choice. Bogdan has been a dive master for quite a while in the Maldives and for the last few years in Utila. I have completed 8 dives with him from wall dives, wreck dives and reef dives. Everyone of my dives was great. He keeps the group small and takes the time to make sure you get the best experience. Utila dive sites are teaming with life and you will not be dissappointed. He will pick you up at your dock with all the equipment you need and take care of it until you dive again.Great person,Great job!

Having already taken a scuba diving course at home, all I needed was to become certified. And, wow, this was the place to do it! Bogdan was patient, yet thorough. His confidence, skills and knowledge of the dive spots made achieving my goal fun! The first two mornings of my trip involved demonstrating certain skills necessary to becoming certified. After I passed that, I was able to join the other divers in our group and enjoy the underwater treasures offered by Utila. Bogdan joined us, along with his dive master, Mike. They were eager to point out things for us to see underwater; it helped that they gave us a briefing before we went in, so that we would know what to look for. We saw lots of coral, a few nurse sharks, baracudas, squids, lobsters, moray eels, crabs, sea turtles, and wads of beautiful fish.

Bogdan's cordiality didn't end when we came up for air. He took us on several jaunts around the cays, which allowed us to experience local cuisine (from the rudimentary to more modern). Each of Bodgan's employees were pleasant and respectful, and made every aspect of the trip really enjoyable.

I wouldn't hesitate to return for another round of the hospitality offered by Utila Cays Diving. It was certainly the perfect place for a scuba-diving newbie.

Just returned from an amazing week of diving with Utila Cays Diving, and Bogdan and his staff are right up at the top of my list of best dive operations. Our group of eight, staying at guest houses at nearby Treasure Beach, were a mix of divers and snorkelers, with one new diver completing her open water referral course. Rare among dive operations was the service they provided to our snorkelers, who each came along on several trips.

They picked us up the first morning at our own dock, loaded and set up our gear, and took care of it for the rest of the week. Bogdan provided patient and thorough one-on-one instruction for our new diver, while Mike expertly led the more experienced divers on dives limited only by our air supply and no-decompression limits. Their service truly is "valet diving," as they call it, and another reviewer perhaps said it best: “If you don´t love it, there is something wrong with you.”

This was my third trip to Utila, and fourth to the Bay Islands, and all the other dive operations I've used provided good and safe service, but Utila Cays Diving stands out as by far the best. All of our dives were excellent, and it's obvious Bodgan and Mike really enjoy what they do. Among the over-the-top services we received was a post-dive stop for lunch and drinks at Neptune's, down the coast a bit. We also arranged in advance a day trip, weather depending, to Cayos Cochinos, 30 miles from Utila, and the weather gods smiled on us. UCD arranged with captains of two faster boats to take us there for two-tank dives and snorkeling in the marine park, followed by lunch at a Garifuna village. It was a fantastic experience, and I highly recommend it.

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention: Not one, but two dives with nurse sharks so friendly they came back to divers time and time again to be petted, like six-foot-long sandpaper-skinned aquatic puppy dogs.

In short, when diving around Utila, go with Utila Cays Diving.

When I saw the 5 star rating for Utila Cays Diving, it caught my eye and I clicked through to learn more. When I saw that ALL the reviews were five stars? I kinda wondered if something smelled "too good to be true." Am I ever glad that the optimist in me prevailed over the skeptic when it came to Utila Cays Diving. Since I could not have been happier with my experience, I too vote five stars all the way.

Before we even arrived, Kathryn and Bodgan, the couple that run the dive shop, were responsive, cheerful and welcoming in their correspondences. They made transportation out to the cays a breeze by offering to pick us up on Utila and arranging a pick-up time that flowed perfectly from our hotel check-out time. Upon our arrival, we were invited to a nickel tour of the cays to become oriented with the layout and amenities on the island and invited to join them and a couple of other guests for lunch. What a welcome!

That show of hospitality and social ease became par for the course. Bodgan, the primary instructor if you are getting your open water, is a natural teacher - he is knowledgeable and knows how to make learning conversational. It doesn't hurt that he is a bit of a card and has a well-honed repertoire of scuba humor. But the joking doesn't get in the way of learning. It just makes it more fun - and, come on, if you have to study while on vacation, a little levity goes a long way.

Katherine will make everything you want to do either there on the cays or in any travel you have time to do after you leave 1000x easier. She has great ideas and will even offer to help you make arrangements. It was like having a travel concierge on hand and with a play book full of awesome ideas. She seemed genuinely happy to help and is pretty much a rock star.

The pace of the open water program is totally up to you - no rigid schedules to follow and you will have plenty of time to enjoy the hammocks hanging out on the dock. Even though it was a "go at your own pace" style, there was no cutting corners when it came to quality instruction on technique and safety. By the time the open water dives come along, you will feel ready and comfortable.

Oh, and you get to do your confined water in the clear sea waters right off the dock surrounded by a coral reef. Sorry to ruin the surprise. Belated *spoiler alert*. Just watch out for the huge fish (read: tiny) that might take a wee nibble out of you when you climb down the ladder into his living room. If he reached a giant fin into your living room, you might go in for a chomp too.

The open water dives were so great that although we thought we would probably skedaddle from the cays after getting certified, we stayed an extra day so that we could go out with Utila Cays Diving again for a couple of fun dives. This is when we got to dive with Mike, the Shark Whisperer. A cooler dude would be hard to meet, and you get tell by his easy-going pace when leading a dive that he is passionate about the details of his underwater world. And sharks. Edgar, the boat captain, is great too and sets a great vibe on the boat with the music he plays on the boat.

If you are looking to go diving during the day and take body shots off of strangers at night, this is not the place for you. The Hotel Kayla affiliated with the dive shop is the only hotel on the cays and the only people you will probably run into that aren't locals with be other guests of the hotel (and since it is small, that won't be a lot of people!) This is the place you go if you want to see local life happening around you, eat where the locals eat, and hear the sounds of neighbors talking, children playing or the school's steel-drum "marching band" practice for their upcoming parade. If you wake up at 5:00 a.m., it will be because of the birds chirping, the fishermen on the island heading out on their boats and the sun starting to enter your room (and not because anyone is stumbling home from the bar).

Yes, you can probably find a cheaper place to dive, but if you choose nature of the experience over the best bargain (which it is still a bargain!!!), you will not regret for a moment that you did.

Thanks to all at Utila Cays Diving for this unforgetable experience.
