I had never heard of "floating" until I met Amanda, owner of Float Utila. What she described seemed intriguing to say the least so I was happy to check it out. When I arrived, Amanda explained the facilities, shower and tank, and explained the process and what I would be experiencing. I'll admit I was a little nervous about closing the tank door but found myself able to relax almost immediately. What an amazing sensation to truly hear every beat of your heart and your breath... and nothing else. I was nearing the end of a year long sabbatical so I was in a pretty good state of relaxation to begin with, but I can imagine that this would be an amazing thing to do at the beginning of your vacation... to be able to wind down from life at home and adjust to island living. But don't take my word for it. Do it!

great service and cool family, best way to clear your mind and get away from the party by shutting out every sense and floating. it is big enough and a very unique experience. Great to heal your cuts from the ocean, as it does not sting too much.

if just being on utila isn't relaxing enough, then you need to float.
the standard appointment is one hour but i recommend two. it's amazing how deeply you can relax and clear your mind when floating in total darkness on water that's at exact body temperature. john (the proprietor) believes his floatation tank is the largest in the world at about 8'6" square, all i know is that it's great to be able to stretch out without touching anything, it really helps to exaggerate the floating sensation. last time i floated here i had the distinct feeling of being levitated, quite the trip!
beautiful shower facilities after you exit the tank, expect to feel like you're floating down the street when you leave.

I traveled to Utila for a family vacation and found this place on our first day while exploring the island. We were all intrigued so we read up on the literature our property manager left at our rental. Before making reservations we decided to visit for a tour of the place. We were warmly greeted by the couple who owns the home, they are wonderful! Great energy, happy people that not only gave us a full, detailed tour of their place, but also recommended restaurants and other sites to check out while in Utila. We got to see the chamber before making an appointment, along with getting all of our questions answered. The chamber is located on the bottom floor of their home. They've converted the bottom of the house to be dedicated to their sensory deprivation chamber. There is a separate room outside of the chamber for undressing, showering and just relaxing. I went in with my mother at first. About 5 minutes in she decided it wasn't for her (nothing wrong, just couldn't handle the complete darkness) so she left me to the chamber by myself. It was great! I have never felt that amazing lucid feeling of being awake, but so separated from normal distractions. I could hear myself deeply breathing, my heart beat has never sounded so strong. The two combined left me at complete ease as I floated. I had no idea if I was moving or not, you seriously lose all of your senses. I would wake to strong twitch as my muscles began to completely relax and let the water hold my weight. It seemed like hours, but once the hour was done I was slowly woken up by music playing in the chamber. I showered and left, finding my mom upstairs on the back deck visiting with the owners. They invited her inside to shower and clean up after leaving the chamber early. We stayed there for some time visiting and learning about the couple. They are some of the warmest, most welcoming people. It truly shows they love what they do and only want others to benefit from the great experience that sensory deprivation has to offer. My only regret is not going back before I left Utila. I will make it a point to visit again next time I travel here.

My friend and I floated together because we were trying to save some money ($37 dollars each) . Its still reasonably priced even if you float alone ($50 each).

Its hard to describe this experience because it was sooooo unlike anything I've ever done before. We got into this dark tank and laid down and immediately your body just...floats. Sounds simple but the feeling was incredible. We had a hard time relaxing at first but the owner explained a trick to put our hands behind our heads and it would help our bodies accept that our head will float just fine. It worked! After that we just laid there for an hour sooo relaxed.

I would recommend this for everyone! Worth the $. And the owners are very friendly! They let us re-schedule our appointments 3 times without complaint :)

My husband and I shared a couples float, followed by a massage. The whole experience was wonderfully relaxing and rejuvenating. We will definitely be back again! High praises to float guru Amanda and masseuse Mia, thanks for making us feel so welcome.

My experience on the island was totally enhanced by the world's largest sensory deprivation chamber. It was therapeutic that I had to go for three visits before I left the island. To be completely cut off from all of civilization is something that I recommend to anyone visiting Utila. The float itself is unworldly. After lying in the water for an hour in complete darkness, one can only come out with a slightly different approach to life. What makes everything better is the massage given afterwards. Amanda, her husband, staff, and their family have a beautiful environment and I pray much success to them as they help to bring relaxation to the world.

Very clean and quiet, quiet, quiet ......if you are into meditation and want to build on your deep breathing try this! Not a coffin like experience - this is built for two people....and provides a safe floating experience with no sound or light....highly recommended!

When we were in Utila, Honduras I had the great opportunity of 'floating' at Float Utila! What is floating? you ask! It is an expereience that goes beyond words! John and Amanda Gibson are the gracious hosts, kind and attentive and offer the worlds largest sensory deprivation tank for you to lay around in for an hour plus. I floated 3 times, it a tank that is windowless, temp controlled and has about 11 inches of extremely salty water in it. Epsom salts!! you float effortlessly and this causes your body, joints, muscles everything, even your brain to relax and rest. I came out feeling whole and fresh. The amenities at Float Utila are far from 3rd world, with a spa like feel. Beautiful shower and clean clean clean. If you are have an opportunity to float, do it, especially if your in Utila!!
