I stayed at Captain Morgan's for two weeks of fun diving. After a couple of months of backpacking, settling down in Utila during this time was very welcome. I did a total of 26 fun dives with them and they managed to keep the diversity of the dives. They were a welcoming family, from Carmen and Isabella working at the restaurant to provide some amazing food and keep the place clean and running, to Tony and Roxy working reception and always having the answers for the questions you have about the island. The owner Kevin was wonderful in getting me to all my requested sites to dive (weather dependent for the North Side) and he gave me the feeling he cared more about me as a person, rather than a paycheck. There's a lot of dive shops to choose on this island but some of the others give the feeling it's more of a factory to create dive masters or run through fun dives and courses to get an income. This place, with a little character, gave more value than you pay. The working divemasters/Instructors were remarkable as well. Mark has some amazing routes at some of the dive sites and has to be one of the best navigators I've met on fun dives. He has great landmarking and orientation to get you through the dive sites and take you to some unique locations others don't know about. Phil was a great guide as well, always very calm and collected under water and all the time very positive. Then Greg, the head instructor was a knowledgeable veteren of diving Utila and will be able to help you with any dive related questions/information as well as take you on some wonderful dives. The entire team outside of those that I dove with were always friendly and assisting. The accommodation was cleaned daily and included on your diving days and their actual dive shop/accommodation is well situated giving you a small private beach/boat launch, hammocks, a restaurant with good food, and a constant flow of good people coming in and out. The only thing I would deduct say half a point for is the quality of the gear. Other shops on the island will have a higher standard for the gear but what they provide will be more than suitable. I would mostly encounter small issues with the gear that I would notice pretrip during my gear set up and they'd always be more than happy to assist me swapping out for something else that worked. If you're looking for a comfortable place to relax, learn to dive, or dive, I would definitely recommend CMos. They have a wonderful location, terrific staff, and they'll do anything they can to help you enjoy your time. You'll be comfortable in their accommodations, enjoy economic food at the restaurant and see some wonderful locations on a comfortable boat. Suitable for couples and solo travelers, those who want to party and those who don't, Divers and snorkelers alike... If I return to Utila I'll definitely be coming back here.

We spent a memorable week of diving with captan Morgan in Utila Our son got his junior open water certification with Jaimi , a young, energetic and extremely competent instructor. Marc was in most cases our dive master and lead of the scuba excursions. He is very intimate with every dive site on the island and was able to quickly adapt whenever we needed to find a backup site . He was able to sort out some of our serious equipment challengers, on the boat, in 5 minutes, without flinching. We covered sites in the north side as well as in the east and south, and while we did not see any whale sharks this time, several sites were just amazing. We ate most lunches and dinners at the in-house bar/restaurant , thank you Dacia: great variety... but hands down the best baleadas on Utila. The accommodations are basic, but extremely clean, comfortable and safe. You can tell the owner Kevin really cares about his guests. Bottom line: we spent a great week at captain Morgan and on the miss Ginny. We will be back, and in the meanwhile we recommend it to anyone who loves scuba diving.

We left this center before starting our open water course. The rooms were dirty and smelly. They were not cleaned in the 3 days after we arrived either. While they are even more expensive than the rooms at other places. We decided to go to another dive shop after that. They have a very nice private beach and common area with great food available. Can't say anything about the course quality since we left before that.

I was more than a little surprised by your review as all of our rooms both private as well as dorm rooms are cleaned daily except for New Year’s Day and Christmas. We have had guests however whose rooms weren’t cleaned as they were enjoying the varied nightlife Utila has to offer and didn’t get out of bed and leave the room in time for it to be cleaned as our cleaning staff leaves around 1 pm. When this happens a guest simply needs to go to the office and request their room to be cleaned and they will call a cleaning staff member back to clean the room. I suspect this may have been the case as you stated you were in the room for 3 days without starting a diving course. I’m very sorry this simple solution never occurred to you during your stay as we take pride in the cleanliness of our rooms. In an attempt to avoid this happening in the future we will posting instructions in each room informing our guests what to do in this type of case. You may indeed find cheaper rooms elsewhere however I seriously doubt they will have invested in providing firm quality matrices on all beds including shared accommodations, private showers in the dorm rooms with hot water as well as optional AC in all rooms.

I had an excellent time at Captain Morgan's, I would recommend it to anyone. Great instructors and crew onboard; helpful, flexible staff at the office; cool atmosphere in the common areas; lovely and excellent cooks (big kiss for Carmen and Dacia). If I were to go back to Utila again in the future, I wouldn't hesitate a second. I hope my instructor Mark will still be there, excellent professional and even better person who will make you feel confident and enjoy your time both under water and on the island.
