We booked this excursion from the MSC ship and glad we did. It was pricey but there was a lot to do. the island had rescued tigers they were habilitating, a nice beach bay area with lounge chairs. Our excursion included use of kayaks, paddle boards, a 20 minute cruise around the area with our tour guide, a buffet local lunch (which was delicious), a free welcome cocktail, and either local beer or soft drink with lunch. We also were able to see some local drummers and dancers and another tour guide explaining how the natives use to live. We took a van to the area to get on the little 5 minute ferry to the island. (The van ride was about 25 minutes and very uncomfortable as seating was very tight.)

We booked Big French Key through our cruise line.. It turned out to be a dreary day with overcast skies, cool temps, and of course rain. Still, we made the best of it and did everything we could under the circumstances. The area is beautiful with plenty of chairs and activities. The staff here was very accommodating and friendly, we even got a delicious homemade Key Lime pie recipe!
However...
The relationship between our bus driver, boat operators, Big French Key staff, and our tour guide didn't seem very rosy and it reared it's ugly head several times throughout our day here. The tip of the iceberg was the boat delaying our trip back to the mainland, making it awkward for our tour guide and leaving all of us in a soaking rain. Upon our return to the mainland, our bus was no where to be seen, again, another wait in the rain.

Loved our first visit to BFK. Brad and his staff were great. Fish fingers were some of the best we have ever had and chicken nachos were presented well and plentiful. We were there after the cruise ship passengers departed, but place seems plenty big even if there was large # of people. Will definitely be back and will recommend to those renting our vacation home to make time to go to BFK.

After a long bus ride from the west end we finally arrived at the dock, only to wait some more for the boat to pick us up for a short ride the big french key. A few emprisoned tigers were near the dock. There is a "nature" walk (a short path thru some palm trees), a restaurant with decent food and an area to sit by the ocean. Kayaking is available (xtra fee) as well as snorkeling (also xtra fee since a boat ride is required to take you to a safe spot). Another boat ride is required to take you to little french key where the pigs are, as well as a few more caged animals (jaguars, chickens, peacocks, a lion & pigs. There is a rope high above the water where one can swing and jump off. We paid $80 US each from our resort which seems pricey for the entertainment value. A long bus ride back and the next thing you know 5 hours have gone by, but hey I did swim with a pig. Oink, oink.

It's a nice place to visit with some activities but you need to pay for the activities like renting a kayak.
The water is very shallow so it's very kid friendly although I suggest the use of water shoes as the sand has lots of small rocks and sometimes they may be a little sharp. Upon getting there you'll see a cage with five tigers, including some white ones, very impressive.

Our excursion was as good excellent! We went on the Big French Key excursion off of our Norwegian cruise, our guide met us as soon as we were off the ship, the information to find him was clear and accurate.
Very little wait time and we were off to the French Key beach, it was very nice. Beautiful water, very polite, helpful people all around.
The beach was great, lots of room, not too crowded, lots to do. We spent most of our time sitting looking at the water, having a drink. But there was a zip line, some kayaks, swimming - some swim-up huts in the water. There was a volleyball net, fun to watch and play.
They served a great lunch with the excursion.
The van ride was 20 minutes or so, the guide was entertaining and informative. I felt safe for my family - no problems there.
I will definitely return, hopeful for Honduras to continue development for the local economy!!

Beach was nice but our lunch seemed to lack planning and the only thing left to eat was rice and beans. We also paid for a boat trip to see big fish, iguanas and tigers….saw no fish or iguanas and we just slid by a cage with tigers.

We went on the Norwegian Getaway and chose this excursion when in Roatan, Honduras. It was an amazing day at Big French Key. There was so much to do and see on the island. Snorkeling was included and was my favorite part! They took us out on a boat in the middle of the ocean and we snorkeled for a perfect amount of time. Most times I snorkel, they give us a short amount of time to do so, but at BFK the timing was perfect. Our guide, Jairon was amazing and super educated on everything there was to know. I learned so much during this excursion. Super yummy food offered for lunch. Be sure to bring water shoes if you go into the ocean, it is kind of rocky.

This was our third visit to Big French Key, on neither of our previous visits had the been tigers although I kind of recall the cages being up on our last visit. I believe they were then awaiting the arrival of the animals as the pandemic was beginning to quiet down in November of ‘21. When we next visited in Feb. ‘22 there were 3 Bengal tiger brothers and 2 Siberian white tigers, also siblings. We were told that they were awaiting more permanent housing in an environment closer to their native one. I’ve no actual idea if any of what were were told is true, but I’d like to find out. If anyone has a particularly good notion where to start looking for information relevant to the fate of these noble creatures, please report it here. I’d be willing to invest the money and some of my time,if others would care to participate in this endeavor to Save the Tigers of Big French Key, you can also respond here. Check back frequently to see whats happening!

Beautiful beach day and romantic couples getaway. Beach was amazingly clean and well taken care of. The short pontoon boat ride from French Harbor was relaxing and the sites were great along the way.
When you arrive on the private beach you are greeted by a friendly concierge/personal guest guid/bartender/waiter (yes they do it all for you) then you are free to explore the entire property and relax or swim in the warm Caribbean waters. The beach is in a blocked off cove from the main ocean so it is very safe for children but is over 7’ deep in the center.
The food and drinks were great and service will leave you feeling well accommodated but the scenery and beauty of the beach will leave you breathless.
This is a must do if spending more than a day in Roatan, Honduras.
