We stayed in a condo just north of Hammerhead and found it to be a top notch dive outfit and extremely convenient for our group. This is a new operation and both the facilities and the equipment are in excellent condition. Rates for dives and equipment were reasonable, and he staff was very helpful and accommodating. Heather in particular was great fun on the dives and flexible given our limitations (we had small kids on the island with us and were a bit limited with when we could dive).

Should we return to Roatan, we would certainly dive with Hammerhead again.

One of the best dive shops I dove with. Enjoyed the professional staff. Lionel and Rodger were the boat captains and were great at assisting you. The dive master, Heather was an excellent instructor and guide.

We found the equipment to be in excellent shape. All the equipment was new and well maintained.

What I enjoyed most was that there were not the large crowds that jump in and swim in a hurry. The dives were in smaller groups…6 to 10 people at a time. Not only was it smaller but Heather was not in a hurry. The dives were about relaxing and enjoying the sights.
Safety was always first with Heather.

My husband and I dove 9 dives with Hammerhead and each dive was an enjoyable experience. Heather enthusiastically pointed out much of the wonderful sea life, which never failed to amaze us. Each dive brought something new. Every day there was something more to explore, fish, plant life, coral and yes, turtles.

I am looking forward to returning again. I can hardly wait for the new adventures.

We were on a very brief trip just to get some diving in. When we arrived, our resort was a bit disorganized about when and where they'd be diving so we walked down the beach. We specifically wanted to get a night dive in. Hammerheads was right around the corner. They were friendly, organized and flexible to accommodate us. The best part by far though was Heather, our Divemaster. She was knowledgeable, informative and really cared about everyone having a great dive experience. Enough that she changed her personal schedule to stay with us for our night dive. She's the ideal mash-up of the carefree, fun-loving, hippie attitude of the islands with the punctual, responsible, and thoroughness you'd expect back in the states.

Got there the morning of our dive and last night's party was still all over the counter. The boat was small and difficult to get back into after the dive. Our dive master had limited enthusiasm and barely spoke to us. She pointed out nothing on the dive.

I'm not even sure where to begin with my review of Hammerhead Dive Center. I guess I'll start from the beginning. My wife and I walked into Hammerhead looking for a quick and convenient place to do some diving while in Roatan (the dive center was next door to Caribe Tesoro where we were staying). We were immediately greeted by Sergei the owner. We asked about dive locations, equipment, and prices, all the usual stuff. After a few minutes he was sharing one of his locally made hand-rolled cigars with me on the dock and talking like we'd known each other for years. I'd go back to Hammerhead just to shoot the breeze with Sergei, but that's not why we were there. We scheduled a dive for the next morning and went about our business. We showed up bright and early and Tony the Divemaster for our dive was busy getting our equipment together. We brought our own fins and goggles but used their BCDs. The BCD were very nice, like new, and very well maintained. We loaded up and headed out to dive Mandy's Eel garden. It was a wonderful dive with Tony cruising along and pointing out interesting sights between spearing Lionfish. Upon returning to the shop I decided that this place was so cool and the staff so amazing that I'd go ahead and sign up to take my Advanced Open Water certification training while I was there. While the prospect of studying for my entire vacation seemed a little off putting, the staff made it painless and enjoyable. I spent the next 3 days diving with Divemaster Kelvin. he was knowledgeable and patient as I worked through all my skills and lessons. He made sure that the courses didn't seem like all work by ensuring that we dove at cool sites and helped me hone my skills. Even Lexi popped out from behind the counter one afternoon to join us for a dive. By the end of the week I had logged 7 dives with the crew at Hammerhead. From the colorful corals of West End Wall and Butcher's Bank to the amazing wreck of the El Aguilla, the staff at Hammerhead showed me the true underwater beauty of Roatan. Any dive shop can take you under the waves ini Roatan. Hammerhead is different. The fresh grilled Lionfish on the patio overlooking the water, the hand-rolled cigars, the cold Salva Vida, and even Mr. Lee the resident eel would all be reasons enough to go hang out at Hammerhead Dive Center. The reason I will go back and plan to do so soon are the people. To Sergei, Tony, Kelvin, and Lexi, thank you for making my trip to Roatan not just a vacation, but an adventure. I look forward to seeing you all soon. The Flor de Cana is on me Sergei.

Dale and the team were very courteous and professional. It was an absolute pleasure to find someone that really understands the value of not trying to overcharge visitors from cruise ships. Get a taxi from the cruise ship to West Bay and go straight to this place !! Fantastic value for money using new equipment. Highly recommended. Great job Dale.

Disappointing that such a great looking shop delivered poor experience for me. Night snorkling with flash lights that stopped working once we were in the water, no working back up lights, "dive master in training'" (whatever that means) with red night guide light that also stopped working....then we were asked to cheer that we had a good time as the owner was on the dock. I now understand why we were told when we first got on the boat that if we liked the service to tip the staff.

I would personally like to apologies to all parties that had a bad experience on our night snorkel. We have punished all staff involved. We have a policy in place that all flash lights are to be checked before all night trips. We do not condone or tolerate our staff asking for tips. Rest assured that this will not happen again. To all of our past and future guest we request that if you ever have a bad experience with our shop or staff that you please let the general manager know immediately. He will be sure to fix the problem as it happens. Thank you for pointing out these details, that will help us to grow in the future. We will contact you personally for a special offer and hope you will give us a chance to change your impression of our service. Yours truly, CEO Dale Rickman

We signed up with the dive shop located at our hotel . Lets just say it was a disappointment. We walked up west bay beach, wondering, why all the hype about diving in Roatan? Then we walked into HDC, we were greeted by Heather and the staff with " Hey you guys want to dive" To which we replied "We wanta dive the El Aquilla" Heather responded with " Oh yeah me too, let's go in the morning! All I can say is WOW! It was by far the best dive either of us had ever done! We spent the rest of our stay on Roatan diving with Heather and Lionel.
Our trip to Roatan, changed dramatically that afternoon we met the staff at HDC, The dive with the other shop was boring, and made us feel unimportant. Why all the hype? Heather and the staff at HDC took the time to show us. You have to see it for yourself, no other dive shop on Roatan can show you the beauty of the reef like these guys. If your heading to Roatan to dive, take my advise and checkout HDC.

We visited West Bay before actually moving there for 3 weeks. Walked up the beach and my husband checked out this dive place. He asked about the Compressor room. Frank took him there and showed him around. He was very impressed with all the top of the line brand new equipment. He always brings his own equipment.

As soon as we moved to the Grand Roatan Resort, who by the way get a 10% discount, we walked up the beach to make a reservation for a dive, Several mornings it was only my husband and Heather who went out on the 8 30 dive. He has been diving for almost 50 years , He was very impressed with Heather the Dive Master..She said that he was like diving with an old friend. He dived there every second day for the 3 weeks that we were in West Bay

Frank was no longer working there. The boat was never crowded like many other boats that we saw going out.

Their boat was away for repairs for most of his dives but the rental boat was fine. Their boat came back before we leftr and it was very nice and comfortable. Several times a couple went snorkelling . They were dropped off with Roger and picked up after the dive.

I do not dive so walked up tp meet him after his dive. The staff were all very friendly as were the other divers.

This dive centre is highly recommended.
